Wizard: Adventures in Two Worlds-Chapter 586 - 3: Alchemy
The screams in the room did not weaken with time; instead, they grew more and more harrowing.
Yet, eerily enough.
With just a thin wooden board in between, not a sound could be heard in the adjacent room.
The Green Dog Brothers were curled up on the ground. Besides the two venomous snakes slithering around them, dozens of large, fiery red ants were burrowing into their clothes, taking huge bites out of their flesh.
Fire Ants!
Magic Creatures.
These fire ants had a liking for the blood and flesh of living creatures, and their bites were extraordinarily painful due to the venom.
The two brothers were writhing in agony but dared not slap them away, fearing they would anger Jeff.
Their endurance made the anger on Jeff’s face slightly ease.
"I’ll give you one more chance."
Standing up, Jeff casually tossed down a ’Healing Potion’ before expressionlessly walking out the door:
"Do not let me down, if Lynn is still alive..."
"Then it will be you who die!"
"Yes," the elder Green Dog brother trembled and nodded urgently:
"Sir, rest assured, this time we will make sure to see him take his last breath before we leave."
"Hm." Jeff snorted lightly:
"You better."
At some point, the venomous snakes and fire ants disappeared, and the two, covered in blisters, helped each other stand up.
"Damn it!"
The younger brother cursed in a low voice:
"How could that guy not be dead?"
"Maybe his heart is located elsewhere, or maybe he used some kind of disguise," the elder brother’s face was gloomy:
"Whatever it is, this time we need to make it clean and tidy!"
"Big brother," the younger brother’s expression was twisted, and he kept taking sharp breaths:
"You said he’s just a novice apprentice out of the academy, why does Jeff want to deal with him?"
"And want us to do it?"
"After all, he’s from the academy, it’s inconvenient for him to act," the elder brother shook his head and began to walk out:
"As for why he has to kill him..."
"Maybe that kid Lynn offended someone at the academy, which is why this disaster has fallen upon him."
Jeff had already left the academy and had his own business outside, so it was impossible for him to have any dispute with Lynn.
"Forget it."
The younger brother didn’t want to think too much, baring his teeth:
"Let’s heal up first and find an opportunity to take him out. This time, it seems Jeff is truly angry."
The elder brother nodded.
They were merely wild wizards foraging around town, absolutely not daring to offend the well-connected Jeff.
Even if Jeff was also just a tool for some powerful figure.

"Phew..."
Lynn exhaled heavily, stretching his limbs, silently feeling the changes in his body.
"I’ve finally reached the level of an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice."
After adjusting the meditation method, his spiritual power had surged in a short time. Lynn had been studying at the academy for many years, so it was only natural that he advanced to an intermediate wizard.
Of course,
it was just the spiritual power attainment; he had not yet mastered the third Zero Ring Magic.
"Stronger spiritual power not only increases the potency of wizardry, but also makes bodily control fine-tuned and flexible."
His ten fingers moved swiftly, fast enough to make a minstrel playing the harp gasp in amazement.
And this was just secondary.
Lynn approached a cauldron, extended a finger to ignite the magic fire it came with, and the spells cast upon it began to operate.
This cauldron was the most valuable legacy his predecessor left behind.
Worth seventeen Magic Stones!
Moreover, that was the discounted price bought from a familiar prominent figure.
If it was the full version, it could easily cost thirty or forty magic stones.
’The original planned to leave the academy relying on refining potions for a living, but unfortunately, he didn’t have much talent in alchemy.’
’Unwilling to give up cultivation, he ultimately achieved nothing in both.’
Shaking his head, Lynn sliced a section of Hyoscyamus niger, a petal of moonflower, and a few drops of belladonna juice into the cauldron.
He watched the heat and kept track of time.
Occasionally adding materials until a faint fragrance wafted out.
This was the crucial moment; the Calming Potion was colorless and tasteless; any aroma indicated low quality.
It needed to be collected and restrained to consider it done.
His predecessor always erred here, wasting materials with no yield, but things were different now.
"Swish!"
Several types of magic materials infused with weak magic were orderly placed into the cauldron by Lynn, who used magic fire to refine them.
A moment later.
"Gush..."
A stream of colorless and tasteless potion flowed from a side opening of the cauldron, filling a prepared bottle.
Calming Potion,
Done!
"Phew..."
Lynn wiped the sweat from his forehead, his eyes shimmering:
"It feels like refining potions is as mentally taxing as constructing magic models, thankfully it’s completed."
He turned his head.
Nearby, there were several other bottles of potion.
The Calming Potion was the most common auxiliary used by the Peace Potion Makers at Viper Academy, helping to stabilize spiritual power.
Selling one portion for a magic stone fragment.
Previously, Lynn bought materials for five magic stone fragments, and a qualified pharmacist could make at least a magic stone’s worth of potion.
Don’t feel like the profits are too good.
In fact, refining potions requires not only materials but also the consumption of spiritual power, magic fire, and various consumables.
Even if it doubles, the profits are just average.
But Lynn...
"Twenty portions!"
After checking the stock, a smile appeared on his face:
"This kind of profit rate is considered excellent among pharmacists, though such pharmacists probably wouldn’t care for Calming Potions."
"In any case..."
"There’s no need to worry about repaying the academy’s loan from now on."
......
The market.
The shop owner Mandy inspected the eight potions in front of her, raising an eyebrow:
"Not bad!"
"You’re improving quickly." She put away the potions and handed over eight pieces of magic stone fragments, taking the opportunity to stroke the back of Lynn’s hand with a playful smile:
"To break-even so quickly and have extra profit, it looks like you’ll have a stable income next month."
"Do you want money or materials?"
"Materials." Lynn sighed, showing a hint of fatigue:
"I have no choice for survival, but it seems my talent in refining potions is much stronger than in cultivation."
"That’s right." Mandy nodded:
"But don’t underestimate pharmacists, excellent pharmacists are even more in demand than official wizards."
"Hmm..."
"Once you have enough experience, you can try refining Silence Potions."
A Silence Potion for one magic stone each?
Lynn slowly nodded.
He left the shop, carrying materials on his back, and touched the magic stone fragments in his pocket, a smile appearing on his face.
Not all of the refined potions were sold to Mandy. Though her side was more stable, he chose to sell them in a dispersed manner.
So currently he still had over one magic stone in his possession.
"Lynn."
A cheerful voice called from across the street.
Lynn looked up at the sound and saw a man and a woman approaching one after the other.
The man was tall and strong, with a face covered in wart-like bumps, a clear aftereffect of bloodline magic modifications.
"Danell." Lynn nodded, looking at the woman:
"Isaiah is here too."
Danell and Isaiah were fellow wizard apprentices who also didn’t pass the academy’s assessment.
But the two have their differences.
Danell failed, while Isaiah was an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice. The reason for her failure was unclear, though it was rumored she offended a senior wizard apprentice and was secretly sabotaged.
"It’s been a while since we last met."
Danell enthusiastically put his arm around Lynn’s shoulder, laughing:
"What have you been busy with lately?"
"Recovering from injuries." Lynn smiled faintly:
"I went to the black market and got ambushed by a black wizard, barely survived. I’ve been recovering ever since."
"What?" Isaiah’s expression changed:
"How could you go to the black market, it’s too dangerous there."
"Uh..." Danell scratched his head, looking embarrassed:
"I was the one who told him. I didn’t know it would be dangerous, it’s my fault. Let me buy you a drink."
"Forget it." Lynn patted his chest:
"I’m not healed yet, can’t drink."
"Are you okay?" Isaiah asked with concern:
"Did you have a doctor check your injuries? What about your loan at the end of the month, do you need me to lend you some magic stones?"
Among the apprentices, no one disliked the good-looking Lynn, not even the introverted Isaiah.
Danell instinctively clenched his fists at the side.
He had been pursuing Isaiah, and this was a chance meeting, but alas, she was lukewarm towards him.
Yet upon seeing Lynn, she was uncharacteristically enthusiastic.
"No need." Lynn shook his head:
"I’ve been recovering and studying potion refinement; I can now make a living from it."
"Plus, Susan lent me magic stones."
"Susan..." Isaiah pursed her lips:
"She doesn’t have many magic stones either. If you need, you can come to me; I’m doing hunting missions right now."
"Hunting?" Lynn frowned:
"The kind that requires leaving town, seems dangerous."
"It’s fine." Isaiah smiled:
"I’ve been learning about it at the academy, so I can handle it. The key is the lucrative reward."
...
After chatting for a few moments, they each went their separate ways.
’Danell?’
Lynn stroked his chin, as he hadn’t thought much before, but now realized the original him could barely survive without going to the black market.
At worst,
borrowing money could get him through a year or two.
Yet, he was sparked by Danell’s words, driven by competitiveness to seek opportunities at the black market, which led to the encounter with the black wizard.
Coincidence?
Turning around, Lynn’s gaze shifted slightly as he approached a stall filled with martial artist weapons, casually picking up a knight sword.
"How much is this sword?"
"Two pieces of magic stone fragments."
"I’ll buy it!"
Lynn fished out magic stone fragments and bought the knight sword.
