Wizard: Adventures in Two Worlds-Chapter 516 - 23 Ambush
This world has lost the protection of the Gods. If one wishes to protect its Source Material under the covetous gaze of Evil Gods from Exotic Realms, seeking refuge with certain Righteous Gods is undoubtedly the best choice.
After all, what Righteous Gods desire is to continuously reap the faith of living creatures, rather than exhausting resources as Evil Gods do.
For Carl, what he wanted was to kill Divine’s Favored to gain Source Material. Forming an alliance with the followers of Righteous Gods was safer and made success easier.
Mei Weiya... No one knew what this woman truly wanted, but she also seemed very interested in killing Evil God’s followers.
Since they were to join forces against a common enemy, it was, of course, necessary to familiarize themselves with their own side’s strength and methods.
"I possess the Bloodline of the God of Death Sleep, with Talent Abilities to hypnotize and inflict death curses, but these are extremely ineffective against Evil God’s followers," Mei Weiya was the first to speak.
"Additionally, some years ago, I obtained a Fourth-tier pair of gloves from the Divine Domain that can easily cut through any being below Third-tier."
As she spoke, she raised her hands. Her smooth, well-shaped hands shimmered with a natural, skin-like luster; unless one looked closely, it was difficult to notice that she was actually wearing gloves.
Fourth-tier?
The expressions of the others turned serious, while Carl merely raised an eyebrow.
He had seen Mei Weiya in action. With a gentle swipe of her five fingers, a Favored of a Lower God would be sliced apart, utterly powerless to resist.
The gloves were real!
But Mei Weiya certainly had more than just this pair of gloves.
Trapped in the City of Death for hundreds of years, with her Cultivation unable to increase, she had most likely practiced Martial Arts and Secret Techniques.
Holy Skills? Divine Arts?
At least her method of flight was very strong.
"I am a native of this world, following the Knight Path. By chance, I gained the approval of the God of Slaughter and became His follower," Carl said.
"My methods primarily involve close-quarters physical combat. I have a Cultivation at the Second Order Middle Stage and have practiced several Holy Skills."
Hm?
Mei blinked, somewhat surprised.
In her memory, Carl’s aura was ferocious. He didn’t seem like someone at the Second Order Middle Stage, but more like an Upper-level Vassal at the Second-tier Late Stage, or even Third-tier.
However, considering the Divine he worshipped was the God of Slaughter, it made sense.
Such followers often possessed strength surpassing others of the same tier.
Mei Weiya secretly shook her head.
She didn’t know how many techniques Carl possessed, but it was undeniably true that he had a Third-tier Abyss Bloodline.
"I am Night Owl," Night Owl began.
"A Middle Position Vassal of the Death God. I have a Second Order Death God Scythe and a tome of wraiths. Nothing else."
"Mei," she stated simply. She then continued, "I am a Middle Position Vassal of the God of Light. I was granted Cultivation at the Second Order Early Stage by my Divine, and I’ve practiced some Light-elemental Divine Arts. I also have a Third-tier scepter."
"I can heal you!"
"Heh-heh..." Night Owl gave a dry laugh, seemingly annoyed that the newcomer possessed a Third-tier item.
"If you don’t want to get us killed, don’t even mention healing."
"Uh..." Mei was startled by his words, then realization dawned.
"I forgot."
Both the God of Death Sleep and the Death God have a natural aversion to light. Her healing Divine Arts would be like poison to Mei Weiya and Night Owl.
As for Carl...
His body could transform into an Abyss Giant Squid, and he also possessed Second Order Water of Life. His Recovery Power was already extraordinarily high; unless it was a Third-tier Divine Art, it would be difficult to enhance it further.
"Let’s leave it at that," Mei Weiya said, standing up.
"I’ll inform you when it’s time to take action."
"Um..." Mei slowly raised her right hand, asking tentatively, "Your Highness, may I start spreading the faith now?"
Night Owl’s eyes lit up, and he also looked up, clearly eager.
"As you wish," Mei Weiya said, waving her hand.
"Just don’t start fighting amongst yourselves."
"Rest assured," Mei nodded emphatically.
"The doctrine of the God of Light preaches benevolence. I will teach the believers to view death correctly."
Night Owl sneered.
「 」
Jing Ge, the City Lord of Ze City, was an obese man whose short legs moved swiftly on the Fourth-tier steps.
Reaching the top of the stone steps, he knelt on one knee.
"Your Highness!"
"Mm."
Mei Weiya stood under a stone pavilion, hands clasped behind her, squinting at the city below with a cold sneer on her face.
"You’re covered in blubber, yet you’ve managed to show some kindness."
"If I hadn’t contacted you, would you really have agreed to convert to the faith of the God of Water from the Otherworld?"
"I wouldn’t dare!" Jing Ge was sweating profusely.
"I just felt that this continuous rain was becoming a problem, and we needed to find a solution for the city’s inhabitants."
"Ever since I spread the word about worshipping the God of Water, it hasn’t rained near Ze City for several days."
"Hmph," Mei Weiya snorted.
"Will he come today?"
"He will," Jing Ge nodded hastily.
"The Upper-level Vassal of the God of Water is named Hong Qiu—a very strange name. Although he’s domineering, he’s very punctual."
"If he says he will come today, then he will definitely come today."
"Good," Mei Weiya said.
"Wait for him at the foot of the mountain. If he comes, fine. If he doesn’t, you don’t need to come back."
Jing Ge’s face paled. He kowtowed subserviently before departing.
"Your Highness," Night Owl said, frowning as he watched Jing Ge’s retreating figure descend the mountain, "can he be trusted?"
"Divine’s Favored possess methods to probe minds; it’s not easy to hide one’s true thoughts from them."
"Rest assured," Mei Weiya said.
"He is my Bloodline Knight."
Night Owl understood.
A Bloodline Knight could not possibly betray their creator. Even the slightest hint of rebellion would be known to Mei Weiya.
"Let’s wait." Carl closed his eyes, letting the cold wind and fine rain wash over his face.
「It was unclear how much time had passed.」
"They’re here!"
Mei Weiya suddenly spoke. Carl also opened his eyes. Night Owl and Mei reacted a beat slower.
In the distance, through the curtain of rain, a translucent, crystalline water dragon approached, riding a fierce Gale and storm.
Upon closer inspection, two figures stood astride the water dragon’s colossal head.
"One Upper-level Vassal, one Middle Position Vassal—just as we anticipated," Mei Weiya said, narrowing her eyes.
"I’ll hold off Hong Qiu. The three of you deal with the other Middle Position Vassal, then we’ll join forces."
"Understood!" Night Owl complied, transforming into a wisp of black smoke that surged upward. His Death God Scythe slashed at the water dragon from afar.
Simultaneously, a book materialized behind his head. Its pages flipped, subtly locking onto the figures atop the water dragon.
"A Vassal of the Death God?" Hong Qiu was momentarily stunned, then his face filled with disdain.
"A Middle Position Vassal, instead of hiding in a corner spreading faith, actually dares to come here and court death!"
SWISH!
Before his words had even faded, Hong Qiu’s vision blurred. A translucent, crystalline palm appeared in his perception.
Its slender, delicate fingers were like the most perfect work of art, mesmerizing anyone who looked upon them.
Not right!
After all, Hong Qiu was an Upper-level Vassal.
And a Third-tier Upper-level Vassal at that! He instantly sensed something was wrong, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
POP!
A water sphere suddenly materialized in front of the palm.
The sphere wasn’t large, but each water droplet within it weighed more than a thousand jin; its explosive force could shatter a mountain.
Such effortless yet incredibly precise control was clearly something only a Third-tier expert could achieve.
BOOM!
With a deafening blast, Mei Weiya was forced to dodge and retreat.
But in an instant, she pounced again. Her hand movements seemed light and airy, yet they forced Hong Qiu to defend with all his might.
Unwittingly, Hong Qiu was separated from his companion.
"Great God of Light, please grant me the Fierce Flame of the sun, to transform into light arrows and punish the guilty!" Mei chanted softly. Immediately, witchcraft light arrows materialized around her, shooting towards the figure on the water dragon’s head.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
A series of urgent collision sounds rang out.
The seemingly soft-bodied water dragon suddenly coiled. Its skin instantly hardened like steel, deflecting all the light arrows.
A dragon?
Mei was startled, then realization dawned on her face.
It’s a Dragon Calamity Bloodline, not a water dragon created by Divine Arts!
"I’ll handle this." Carl appeared above the water dragon. His Battle Aura flared, and the phantom of a Buddha emerged out of thin air.
"Ten Thousand Buddha Hands—Dragon Suppressing Seal!"
