Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam-Chapter 856 - 66: Guns and Fire (Part 3)
His face was solemn, and that hollow feeling left Meiliya stunned for a moment.
"...Where is your heart?"
She looked at the black-cloaked man in shock, his chest was empty, his heart was missing, and it was precisely because of this that he escaped the critical blow just now.
The black-cloaked man clutched his chest tightly.
He didn't know why the battle had continued for so long, yet the Thousand-faced Witch had still not appeared.
The Thousand-faced Witch only needed to snap her fingers to annihilate this rebel army made up of prisoners. He had been observing the prisoners' actions; with their strength, defeating the King of Gluttony was impossible, something unknown must have happened on the fourth level.
There must be an enemy hiding elsewhere!
Continuing to struggle here was not in their favor.
Thinking of this, the black-cloaked man said, "Your Highness, let's retreat for now, we'll withdraw to the central courtyard!"
Upon hearing this, the Eldest Prince's face twisted with anger and humiliation, but facing the advancing rebels, he still accepted the black-cloaked man's suggestion.
"Don't even think about it!"
Meiliya was about to give chase, but the black-cloaked man flicked his left hand, and she felt a chill behind her. She dodged to the side as two prison guards, already dead from gunshot wounds, brushed past her, their lifeless bodies suddenly swelling before erupting in a deafening explosion, sending a shower of blood raining down.
The corpse explosion destroyed the shaky barrier and caused Solan to fall to one knee from exhaustion.
Before the aftermath reached them, a shadow enveloped him, pulling him to safety.
What kind of trick was that?
Meiliya glared fiercely at the retreating black-cloaked man and the Eldest Prince, then turned to Solan and said, "Remember, you owe me one life now."
...
"Where is Cedric? Where is the Thousand-faced Witch? And where is the Prison Warden?"
Along the way, the Eldest Prince clenched his fists, nearly grinding his teeth to pieces.
This was supposed to be his brilliant victory before ascending the throne, cementing his unshakeable position in the Imperial Capital, but things had been going wrong lately, leaving him embarrassingly beaten back by a hastily assembled group of prisoners.
"If Cedric were here, it wouldn't be this humiliating!"
He naturally blamed Cedric for abandoning his post.
He never imagined that a Royal Family "pawn" could cause him to lose composure.
"Your Highness, our top priority is to find the Prison Warden."
The black-cloaked man ignored the Eldest Prince's complaints, calmly reminding him.
The Demon King, the hero Solan, and the hastily formed rebel army were not the real threats; the true threat was the person who had killed the King of Gluttony and incited the riot on the fourth level.
He was sure that this person was not among the rebels, which was a relief in a way.
This reminded him of the two still mysterious outsiders.
The Lindong Witch, and the young man Ethan, who seemed to have close ties with the Violet Commune.
According to the prince's plan, the two should have been taken down by the Forbidden Guard individually, considering their danger, the orders were "dead or alive" rather than "capture alive."
But before they sent Balmon to prison, there was no report of the two's whereabouts.
Would the Forbidden Guard's operation go as smoothly as planned?
While the black-cloaked man was lost in thought, a sign in the corridor caught his attention:
"Beware! Vampires ahead!"
This was the road to the fifth level courtyard.
Strange, was this sign here before?
The black-cloaked man gripped his thin sword tightly, as he had smelled the scent of blood in the air. He signaled for the Eldest Prince to stay put while he followed the source of the scent.
From the depths of the darkness came a jingling sound.
"Not this one, not this one... huh?"
"Can you do it or not?"
Voices of several people having a conversation came from the darkness.
The black-cloaked man quickly realized that there was a prison break happening. He noticed the body of a prison guard with a fatal neck wound, fallen in front of a cell's iron bars. He almost immediately imagined the scene of the guard's murder—he was attacked when approaching the prisoners, they bit through his neck, severing his windpipe, leaving him unable to call for help.
He quickly hid in the shadows. By the light of the torches, the black-cloaked man saw some familiar faces.
A beautiful vampire, allegedly the progenitor of a certain vampire clan.
Sold at a high price at a black market auction, she was later trained by a young noble to be a pet, and in the cell, he saw someone with long ears, whom he had also seen at a pet party hosted by the Third Princess.
But why would these "pets" appear in the prison?
"Shut up for now!"
The beautiful vampire suddenly spoke, "I smell something strange."
"What strange smell? Is there a guard coming?"
"No, it's the smell of a corpse, like it's been dried for a long time."
The vampire glanced at the spot where the black-cloaked man was hiding.
At that moment, the black-cloaked man understood something.
The reason these "pets" were here could only be one thing—a problem occurred at the Simpler Clan's banquet that night!
He had attended that banquet and knew the Third Princess and Fabius were meeting in the estate's side pavilion. They always brought their most prized pets to such gatherings. Thinking back, the Third Princess and Fabius started acting strangely after that night, along with all the young nobles who attended the party.
