Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam-Chapter 814 - 147: Your Heart’s Desire (Part 2)
"Wishing?"
The Flayers stared at each other, not understanding why this Mage remained so calm even when surrounded on all sides. People from the Imperial Capital should know their methods and the fate that awaited them in their hands, yet Ethan was speaking eloquently as if the one surrounded wasn't him.
"You came here for this."
Ethan coaxed gently, "I can offer you a chance to make a wish—In your eyes, what am I? I sincerely advise you to consider carefully before answering."
"Isn't the answer obvious?"
The Flayers sneered, "Colluding with rebels, using Witchcraft to control the empire's nobility, you are nothing but heinous criminals—"
His voice abruptly stopped.
In an instant, the entire library fell into a deathly silence.
The smell of blood filled the mansion, and Zophie widened his eyes. He reflexively turned towards Ethan, adopting a defensive posture. It took several seconds before he lowered his dagger.
When those bodies were cut in half, Zophie's instincts as an Assassin Master were faster than his thoughts. Yet, even after several seconds, he still didn't know when Ethan acted or how he acted.
Everyone quieted down.
These well-trained enemies, which had once caused Lance significant trouble, were at this moment sliced into pieces as easily as fruit at a market.
Ethan instilled in him a fear he'd never felt before, not even when facing the Demon King.
"This was their wish. I am merely fulfilling their last desire."
Ethan said, "As someone guilty of colluding with rebels, how could I possibly let them walk away to spread the news?"
He thought perhaps the Flayers had been too fortunate and smooth sailing, causing them to forget the risks of facing a "criminal." But things don't always end in a victory for the nobles. When they attempt to arrest a criminal, they may face the risk of being counter-killed.
Ethan used his actions to remind them, hoping the Flayers could learn a lesson and apply it next time.
Witnessing this scene, Meiliya scrambled into the shadows, covering her mouth with her hands, not daring to make a sound.
Her heart was pounding rapidly.
Oh my God!
How could this person be so ruthless?
A few minutes earlier, she thought she had come just in time. At that moment, the intruders suddenly appeared, surrounding the two in the library with overwhelming numbers. As a Demon King, she naturally stood on the opposite side of the nobles and was ready to descend from above to save the two from danger.
However, what happened next was beyond her expectations. While she was still observing for the right moment, all the intruders suddenly split apart.
The cuts were neat, and even the blood took a few seconds to gush out. The expressions of gruesome smiles still lingered on their faces, as if they hadn't realized their deaths.
This dealt a massive blow to Meiliya's outlook on life.
It turns out that slaughter doesn't involve both sides making preparations, setting up stances, and finding the right environment to fight. This scene where life and death are decided in an instant deeply shocked her heart and made her realize again that she was nothing but a novice in the face of these true killing maniacs.
"Lord Zophie, do you have any updates regarding the matter I asked you to investigate before?"
"...Those metals seem to be related to the Henry Royal Family. I inquired with a black market info dealer I know and found something about 'Sparks'."
"Sparks?"
"It's said to be a powerful secret of several major families of the Silver Radiance Empire. When the Silver Radiance Empire was established, Henry I distributed 'Sparks' to those who made significant contributions, and the Simpler Clan was among them."
"So, Duke Ash is using 'Sparks' to train Flayers as the family's Death Warriors. Lance also mentioned that during battles with Flayers, they exhibited a bizarre side."
Under the influence of the 'Sparks,' it seemed like each Flayer was endowed with a second personality.
A cold, mechanical-like side was hidden within their bodies.
Regrettably, Ethan had never witnessed the other side that Lance described.
He thought perhaps his mastery of elemental Magic's power was just too high for these Flayers, who only received a small portion of the Sparks, killing them before they could enter the second stage.
And the slash just now was already him asking the literary girl to be as gentle as possible.
At least, it still looked like it belonged to the category of Wind Blade, rather than directly slicing the entire Imperial Capital into several pieces with Space Slash.
Recent experiences also made Ethan start to reflect on himself.
It seemed he had stacked his Magic damage... a bit too high, to the point where he could no longer experience the passionate heat of battle.
Perhaps, after this, he should pick up a sword and masquerade as another type of Transcendent to fight?
But at least Zophie's investigation provided him with a new direction.
Since Duke Ash wasn't the original owner of the 'Sparks,' and it seemed he and his forebears had long lost themselves in debauchery, they lost the ability to develop the 'Sparks' power, which led to the current situation where they could only rely on Flayers to fight for them.
Duke Ash himself was not a Transcendent, unable to use the Sparks' power at all, and Fabius was even more of a wastrel harmed by indulgence at a young age.
"Seems like I'll have to think of a way to move into the Royal Palace."
Ethan mused, "Speaking of which, what kind of person is His Majesty Henry? Does he usually welcome guests to stay over?"
"You're mad!"
Zophie blurted out.
In his view, Ethan was a complete madman. What's more, a few days ago, this man was earnestly advising him not to act impulsively and rush into the Royal Palace to court death in a fit of rage. This led to the subsequent series of investigations and made him realize his recklessness.
He indeed had his eyes clouded by the title of "Assassin Master."
As the 'Sparks' revealed a tip of the iceberg before him, Zophie truly realized his own insignificance.
In front of those who truly inherited the 'Sparks,' his tricks were pointless.
The Henry VI, whom he wanted to assassinate, was the true inheritor of the 'Sparks.' Even without needing the Imperial Army's commander and the many Forbidden Guards in the Royal Palace, Henry VI, under the Sparks' blessing, could easily take his life.
"Don't say it so harshly. Actually, I have acquaintances in the Royal Palace."
"Acquaintances? You?"
Zophie looked entirely skeptical.
"The Third Princess."
Hearing this identity, Zophie's face froze, as uncomfortable as if he had swallowed a fly.
Yet he clearly remembered what happened that night.
That was after they broke free from control and, under the influence of the blood moonlight, tore open their 'host's' throat. Those corpses, which were supposed to be dead, got up once more under the Witch's manipulation. Their fatal wounds were patched up by the blood-colored frozen layer, as if nothing had happened, returning to their respective homes.
This naturally included Fabius.
Yet, to this day, the Simpler Clan's guards and servants haven't realized that Fabius is already dead. Everything in the Royal Palace continued as usual. Henry VI was completely unaware of what his overbearing daughter did at the Simpler Clan's estate.
"This should be quite normal."
Ethan's question pulled the somewhat dazed Zophie back to reality.
"What's quite normal?"
"A daughter invites her newfound friends from afar to their home as guests. After some friendly conversation, the parents warmly invite the friends to stay over at their place for a few days."
Though Ethan had never visited the Silver Radiance Empire's Royal Palace, on the other side, Queen Margaret would every so often invite him to the Royal Palace as a guest, particularly in the name of her daughter, Princess Sophia.
See, what he said just now is exactly a scene that can happen anytime in everyday life.
"I know, their house is large, with many guest rooms. If tired, just take a rest there; it's no problem."
