Wielding the Thunders Across Two Worlds-Chapter 41: Shangqing Great Forbidden Dragon Binding Talisman
The private chamber was in the rear courtyard of Golden Wind Hall. Dappled shadows from the surrounding bamboo blocked out the noise from outside. Sunlight filtered through the carved window lattice, and combined with the curling sandalwood incense, it created a dreamlike atmosphere.
Hong Xin invited Gu Zhao to sit and offered him fragrant tea.
Gu Zhao took the teacup and asked, "Brother Hong, are you the Steward of this Golden Wind Hall?"
"That’s right!" Hong Xin grinned. "The Sect Leader took a liking to me and made me a Divine Altar General."
Perhaps he was feeling particularly proud, or maybe the question had stroked his ego. It could also be that he was back on his home turf and no longer felt the need to be cautious. As Hong Xin spoke, his eyes flashed black for an instant, and a hint of Ghost Qi leaked out before being instantly retracted.
"So, Brother Hong, you’re the most powerful person from Golden Wind Hall in Xiuyue County?" Gu Zhao asked again, a smile gracing his lips as well.
"Of course!" Hong Xin laughed heartily, then joked, "What, is Brother Zhang thinking of joining our sect?"
Gu Zhao asked curiously, "Didn’t you invite me here to recruit me into your sect?"
Hearing this, Hong Xin let out a sigh of feigned regret. "Brother Zhang, you are handsome and have an extraordinary bearing. Ordinarily, I would be begging for a man of your talent to join us." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Hm?" Gu Zhao blinked, a little surprised.
He’d assumed Hong Xin had snatched him from Master Lu to recruit him into the Golden Wind Sect, to have him contribute Spiritual Telekinesis to their Golden Wind Divine King.
’I grew up healthy and strong, never wanting for good food,’ he thought. ’My body is powerful and my spirit is full. Logically, I should be a premium-grade incense battery.’ That was why he had deliberately acted a little more "gullible" when composing the poem earlier, putting on the air of someone easily fooled.
But from the sound of it, that wasn’t the case?
Meeting Gu Zhao’s curious gaze, Hong Xin smiled faintly. "Some time ago, an elder from the main branch paid a visit. As a junior, it is my duty to show my filial piety."
At this, Hong Xin sighed again. "Unfortunately, Xiuyue County is a small place. I picked out several gifts for the elder, but they were not particularly satisfied with any of them.
"I was worried sick. I was wandering around aimlessly when I happened to hear that Lu Sheng had met a traveler from out of town. I was just taking a shot in the dark, but I never expected to find someone of your caliber, Brother Zhang. You truly are a sight for sore eyes."
Gu Zhao already understood. "So... I’m the gift?"
Hong Xin looked at Gu Zhao with great interest, a wanton smile spreading across his face. "Looks like you’re not so stupid after all, Brother Zhang!"
With that, Hong Xin took a step back, positioning himself at the door of the chamber to prevent Gu Zhao from escaping. He bowed his head and lowered his voice. "Is the Great Guardian satisfied?"
The next moment, a brawny, rugged-looking man, half a head taller than Hong Xin, pushed aside the door curtain and walked in. His eyes raked over Gu Zhao, a wicked light in them as he nodded in satisfaction.
"This one is much better than those misshapen rejects you brought me before. I don’t like those frail scholars. I prefer handsome youths like this!"
"As long as the Great Guardian is satisfied." Hong Xin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"You can leave," the large man said with a wave of his hand. He then walked toward Gu Zhao with a greedy expression. Seeing the look of disbelief in Gu Zhao’s eyes filled him with satisfaction, and he laughed lecherously. "Young man, come, come... Let this uncle take good, good care of you."
Gu Zhao’s face was expressionless as he watched the large man draw closer.
Hong Xin shot him a pitying glance and turned to leave. But just as he turned his back, he felt a fluctuation of Magical Power from behind him and heard Gu Zhao’s cold, brisk voice, "Three Elements and Three Officials, Nine Rivers of Jiujiang. Become iron chains, and bind your entire being."
Hong Xin spun around just in time to see his Great Guardian crash to the ground.
"What?" Hong Xin was stunned.
The large man crashed to the ground, revealing Gu Zhao standing behind him. A wisp of ash scattered from Gu Zhao’s hand. With the obstruction gone, the two men’s eyes met. Hong Xin finally saw the expression on Gu Zhao’s face.
He was smiling, too.
"Thank you for letting me get close to him without arousing suspicion," Gu Zhao said with a smile.
"Hong Xin!" the large man cried out in alarm, his eyes snapping to Hong Xin as he roared, "How dare you betray the Divine King!"
"I didn’t!" Hong Xin retorted instinctively.
In the brief moment they spoke, Gu Zhao reached into the cloth pouch at his waist with his left hand and pulled out another piece of Yellow Paper folded into a triangle. He pointed his right hand at Hong Xin, and a strand of Spiritual Qi transformed into iron chains that shot across the space and wrapped around him.
Hong Xin realized what was happening and tried to resist, but before he could even summon his body’s Magical Power, he heard Gu Zhao’s voice again. "Three Elem—"
As Gu Zhao chanted the Spell, he felt the Spiritual Qi chains sink into his body, binding him tighter and tighter. They locked away all his Magical Power and Divine Sense, leaving him completely unable to access them.
When the final word of the Spell fell, the chains inside him instantly formed a closed loop. This time, Hong Xin couldn’t even stand steady. His legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground.
"He really didn’t," Gu Zhao said, nodding at the large man. "I only said that to stop him from running away."
The large man’s eyes looked ready to pop from their sockets.
A thought sparked in Hong Xin’s mind and he was about to shout, but then he saw Gu Zhao’s right hand form a quick series of seals. The sound that came out of his own mouth was like the mewling of a cat being strangled.
"This is called a Shangqing Great Forbidden Dragon Binding Talisman," Gu Zhao kindly explained. "Its basic function is to bind your Dantian Sea of Consciousness, preventing you from using your Magical Power or Divine Thought.
"Beyond that, it has a few auxiliary functions that can be adjusted on the fly, such as your basic physical strength, whether you can speak, the functions of your five organs and five senses, and so on."
Gu Zhao thought for a moment, then snapped his fingers. "It’s basically a single-target silence with a root effect."
Now that the chains were inside them, Gu Zhao could clearly sense that the brawny man was a standard Fierce Ghost. Hong Xin, however, was a living person, but there was a Ghost hiding inside his body, which had also been bound by the chains.
"Who are you?" the large man asked as the Ghost Qi in his body surged on its own, attempting to fight back. It actually caused the chains inside him to tremble.
"Oh?" Gu Zhao raised an eyebrow, pulled out another Shangqing Great Forbidden Dragon Binding Talisman, and...
Looking at the large man, who was now completely immobile, Gu Zhao finally asked, "Who are you?"
The large man gritted his teeth, his expression one of utter disbelief. "You don’t even know who I am?"
Gu Zhao sighed. His left hand formed the Capital Supervisor Technique seal, while his right formed a Sword Pointing. "Celestial Net, now unfurl; spread across the four corners. Seize the demonic and the vile; let no ghost escape your form."
A ray of fiery light shot from his fingertip and struck the large man.
In the next moment, the light transformed into a net of light that sank into the man’s body. It slowly tightened from the outside in, gradually melting his Ghost Body.
"AHHHH!" The large man let out a hoarse shriek. He could feel himself being burned by the pure, righteous flames, his Ghost Body disintegrating bit by bit. Yet, his Magical Power and Ghost Qi were firmly restrained by the two sets of iron chains, leaving him utterly powerless to resist.
"I am the first of the Dharma Protectors under the Sect Leader of the Golden Wind Divine Sect, Ren Tianhe!" the large man shrieked.
"Now that’s more like it. I ask the questions, you answer them," Gu Zhao said, nodding as he sat back down in his chair. "Now that the rules are set, we can have a pleasant chat."
