Who Let Him Cultivate?! (WX)-Chapter 940: The Pill Concoction Chamber’s New Product
Just as Lu Yang was pondering what fortuitous encounters a Fusion cultivator might stumble upon, a cold, sinister voice sounded.
“Heh, since when has the immortal palace fallen so far that men can come and go as they please?”
“Ah!” Xue Shilou writhed on the ground in agony, his cries reverberating throughout Sinner Hall.
“Back then, when the immortal palace was under my leadership, how glorious it was...”
“Ah!” Xue Shilou began pounding his head against the floor to distract himself from the pain.
“And now, under that lass Luo Hongxia’s guidance, it has become like this...”
“Ah!” Xue Shilou clawed at himself. He had grown feverishly hot and flushed all over.
“Stop screaming!” The sinister voice erupted in fury. The atmosphere had been utterly ruined by Xue Shilou’s wailing.
Had they not been in Sinner Hall, her wrath alone would surely have silenced Xue Shilou. Unfortunately, Sinner Hall was protected by arrays that suppressed cultivation realms. Even with her astonishing power, she couldn’t stop Xue Shilou’s blood-curdling shrieks.
Lu Yang traced the voice to its owner. It was a pale-skinned woman with an indifferent expression.
“Who is this?”
“Our immortal palace’s previous palace leader, Qu Ling. In terms of seniority, I have to address her as Junior Grand-Aunt.”
Lu Yang was taken aback. I’ve never imagined that even the previous palace leader would be thrown into Sinner Hall.
“So you’re that Lu Yang who has been making splashes in the outside world recently?” Although Qu Ling was imprisoned in Sinner Hall and unable to contact the outside world, new prisoners arrived constantly, keeping her up to date with current events.
“The immortal palace has truly fallen, bowing to power and allowing men to enter, violating ancestral rules.” She sneered repeatedly, her disdain for Lu Yang and the Dao-Seeking Sect behind him palpable. “If not for Luo Hongxia, how could I have been reduced to such a state? And how could the immortal palace have sunk to this level?
“How did she get caught?” Lu Yang’s curiosity intensified. He took a couple of steps back to read the plaque outside her cell.
Qu Ling: Crime of Corruption, Life Imprisonment.
Lan Ting explained from the side, “Junior Grand-Aunt misappropriated sect resources to break through to the Transcendent Tribulation Stage. After her breakthrough failed, the matter came to light, and she was apprehended by my shifu and the others.
“Subsequent investigations revealed her involvement in shady dealings in the outside world, gambling with embezzled sect assets, and so forth. She committed quite a few offenses, but whoever made the plaque couldn’t be bothered to list them all, so only the main one was written.”
Qu Ling refuted, “Your shifu simply wanted to ascend to power and used this opportunity to eliminate rivals. The victor becomes the king, and the loser becomes a bandit; it has been this way since ancient times.”
Lu Yang looked puzzled. “Senior, if that’s what you think, why did you call out to me?” He had assumed that Qu Ling had some grievance that she wanted him to help her appeal. The Five Great Immortal Sects had enforcement authority and could exercise mutual supervision authority.
The corners of Qu Ling’s mouth curled up into a mysterious smile.
Lu Yang figured it out. “I get it! It’s because you think this looks cool, right?”
Qu Ling continued smiling, uncertain what to do next.
Isn’t this the kind of scene that often appears in the books brought back by Founding Ancestor Moonchaser?
A mysterious figure is imprisoned and calls out to the protagonist, mocking or sneering at them, and uttering cryptic words no one can understand. The protagonist leaves with questions, and the mysterious figure shrouded in the darkness of their cell reveals an inscrutable smile.
But the books never explain why the mysterious figure had called out to the protagonist in the first place.
Seeing Qu Ling’s reaction, Lu Yang knew he had guessed correctly. Satisfied, he led Lan Ting out of Sinner Hall. Before leaving, he briefly considered trying to peek at what Elder Moran was writing, but unfortunately, the latter wrote too quickly, and he caught nothing.
Upon departing Sinner Hall, they suddenly heard a thunderous sound of an explosion nearby. Flames shot skyward, and a dense demonic energy pervaded the air.
“Is that the pill concoction chamber? Quick, let's go take a look!”
Without any hesitation, the two rushed to the pill concoction chamber.
That was when they saw a colossal snow-white rabbit demon burst forth from the pill concoction chamber, tearing a gaping hole in its roof. The demon rabbit seemed to have gone berserk, its eyes blood-red. It continuously grabbed roof tiles and stuffed them into its mouth.
Crunch. Crunch. The sound was grating to the ear.
“Vile beast, how dare you!” Lan Ting brandished her cyan waistband, which stretched infinitely like a green serpent and coiled around the demon rabbit.
The demon rabbit appeared fierce, but was only at the Golden Core Stage. It didn't pose a threat at all.
After the demon rabbit was bound and fell to the ground, it wriggled and craned its neck to gnaw on the roof tiles that had dropped to the ground.
Crunch, crunch, crunch.
“Many thanks for your help, Senior Sister Lan!” A disciple ran out from the pill concoction chamber. Lu Yang remembered she was called Qin Nan.
“What's going on?” Lan Ting landed and used her waistband to stuff the demon rabbit's mouth, preventing it from chewing on the roof tiles. The sound was simply unbearable.
“I remember this rabbit demon was used for testing pills. How did it suddenly grow so big?”
To test medicinal properties, the immortal palace raised many demon beasts. Unlike the demon race, these demon beasts had no spirit intelligence, making them ideal for testing pills.
Hearing the commotion, the immortal palace disciples rushed over, concerned for Qin Nan.
Qin Nan scratched the back of her head sheepishly. “I was testing medicinal properties. Did it fail?
“I suspect the ratios were not quite right, triggering the demon rabbit’s bloodline and causing it to grow larger and uncontrollable.”
“What did you feed it?”
“A derivative of the Beautifying Pill—the Beautifying Mooncake. It has osmanthus filling.” Qin Nan took out a mooncake from the front of her robes. It was printed with “Moon Laurel Immortal Palace” on the front, and the back was printed with “beautifying.”
Lan Ting murmured a soft affirmative. “The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching. Our immortal palace has a tradition of making mooncakes every year. New innovations emerge from the pill concoction chamber, which attempts to combine pills and mooncakes.
“Judging by the current situation, the research isn't going smoothly.”
The Mid-Autumn Festival was a tradition passed down from ancient times, when the moon waxed and waned. The full moon on the fifteenth day of the eighth month marked the festival.
Ever since the Nine-Layers Immortal created the sun-moon entity, there was no longer any “waxing and waning” of the moon; every night was a full moon. Nevertheless, the custom endured.
The Dao-Seeking Sect didn’t really celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. It was presumably due to the moon’s special significance for the Moon Laurel Immortal Palace that they treated the Mid-Autumn Festival seriously.
“What do we do with this rabbit?” Lu Yang asked. The rabbit appeared to be six meters long and wouldn’t stay still, twisting and turning on the ground.
“Let’s dissect it and find out what caused it to lose control,” one of the immortal palace disciples suggested loudly.
“Look, this rabbit’s eyes are all red; it’s definitely gone berserk. There’s no saving it.”
“But aren’t rabbits’ eyes naturally red?” a young disciple asked, puzzled.
“Shut up. Do you want to eat rabbit meat or not?”
The young disciple felt conflicted. Telling the truth may save the rabbit, but I won’t get to eat any delicious rabbit. Lying won’t save the rabbit, but I will get to eat a delicious rabbit. Is this the adult world—full of lies and choices?
She racked her brains, vacillating between ideals and reality. Finally, she settled on how to cook the rabbit.
“Let’s just roast it, then.”
