Chapter 63: Be Careful, the Opponent is Very Freakish

“Captain Wei, you’re here so early. There are no barbeque skewers at this hour,” Lu Yang joked at the entrance.

It was still morning when Captain Wei brought two constables and a silk banner to the barbeque shop.

“Here you go, this is the banner I promised you yesterday.” Captain Wei shook out the silk banner on the street in an attempt to display it. Written on it was “Hero of Courage, Upholder of Justice.”

This action of his indeed drew quite a crowd. The two constables hung the banner on the wall directly facing the main hall, making it extra conspicuous.

The two tiger-henchman ghosts were originally skewering in the hall, but Lu Yang had them move to the backyard in advance to avoid being seen.

Lu Yang brought over three cups of tea and casually asked, “Did those stupid thieves from yesterday reveal anything? Where did these outsiders come from? They even dared to provoke the renowned Iron-Faced Captain?”

“Hai, don’t mention it. We didn’t get anything out of them,” Captain Wei sighed, gulping down the hot tea.

A Foundation Establishment cultivator’s throat was immune to being scalded by boiling water.

“Why is that?”

“Those bunch of stupid thieves are weak in willpower. They wanted to spill the beans after a bit of intimidation, but just as they were about to explain why a group of cultivators had come to Yanjiang Commandery, they were silenced by an unknown assassin. With nine cow hair poisonous needles in their necks, they died instantly. Since the room was sealed, we have no idea how the assassin got in.

“At the time, I instinctively went outside to look for the assassin but to no avail. Later, I realized that the assassin must have used a spell related to shadows, which allowed him to hide in the shadows beforehand. As soon as we started interrogating the thieves, he killed them and escaped through the shadows while I was out searching for him.

“If only I had blocked the door, the assassin wouldn’t have escaped. I can only blame myself for being so overwhelmed with rage that I failed to think of that possibility!” Captain Wei furiously downed the tea meant for the other two constables.

Those two constables stared at Captain Wei in a stupor. We didn’t even get to drink yet.

With a smile, Lu Yang sent off the incensed Captain Wei and the unlucky constables who hadn’t even had a sip of water.

Meng Jingzhou transmitted an auditory message, “Do we kill Qin Yuanhao according to the plan from yesterday?”

After Lu Yang returned last night, he recounted what he had witnessed. Now that they knew the location of the Yanjiang Branch, there was no longer a need to keep Qin Yuanhao alive.

The three of them then spent the night devising a plan to ambush Qin Yuanhao. To be more specific, Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou were the ones discussing while Man Gu listened by the side.

“No rush. I have a new idea. Let’s prepare a bit more.”

A figure in black robes lightly knocked on the door to Qin Yuanhao’s estate, but no one answered even after a long time.

The black-robed figure continued waiting.

Finally, the door opened, but there was no one there, as if the door had opened by itself. The door stood open like the gaping maw of a monster, ready to devour the unsuspecting.

The black-robed figure entered the estate calmly. As soon as he stepped inside, the door slammed shut, and a bolt slid into place, essentially trapping him inside.

The black-robed figure took out a bone tablet and announced in a resounding voice, “Is Senior Qin Yuanhao here? I specially came to pay a visit under the order of my master.”

“I was wondering who it was. It turns out that you’re one of Brother Tiger’s tiger-henchman ghosts.” Qin Yuanhao suddenly appeared from behind the tiger-henchman ghost. The latter couldn’t even discern from which direction Qin Yuanhao had come from, as if he had materialized out of thin air.

“Why are you looking for me?”

“My master said that after having ruminated about it for a while, it thinks that you have a point. It’s easier to seek shade when you’re leaning against a large tree. It wishes to join the Yanjiang Branch, but it also has some concerns, so it would like to invite you to Pine Mountain for a discussion.”

Qin Yuanhao looked at the tiger-henchman ghost with interest. “Oh? Brother Tiger hasn’t replied to my letter, so I thought it didn’t have the intention of joining.”

The tiger-henchman ghost smiled meekly. “My master takes a longer time to contemplate.”

Qin Yuanhao’s expression suddenly changed, and he grabbed the tiger-henchman ghost by the neck. “How dare you play tricks in front of me? Tell me, who sent you here? Based on Brother Tiger’s personality, how could he actively want to join the Yanjiang Branch?”

Color drained from the tiger-henchman ghost’s face, and it repeatedly said that no one had sent him.

Qin Yuanhao tightened his grip on the tiger-henchman ghost. Only until it became more faint did it tell the truth.

“A few days ago, several unwitting cultivators entered Pine Mountain and accidentally discovered my master’s whereabouts. My master killed them, and when it was sorting their belongings, it realized that they came from a prestigious sect which had seniors at the Golden Core Stage.

“Worried that the Golden Core cultivators might come knocking on its door, it suddenly recalled your invitation. After convincing the matron, it made up its mind to join the Yanjiang Commandery, so it sent me to invite you over to discuss the details.”

Hearing the answer he was hoping for, Qin Yuanhao tossed the tiger-henchman ghost aside. “That’s more like it.”

No longer suspecting the tiger-henchman ghost, Qin Yuanhao followed him to Pine Mountain.

“Senior Qin, my master is waiting just ahead,” the tiger-henchman ghost said respectfully. “Master doesn’t like people listening in, so please go ahead.”

Qin Yuanhao didn’t bother with the tiger-henchman ghost and walked ahead by himself.

The forest was dense and tranquil, seemingly devoid of human presence for a long time. The bird calls in the distance added a touch of serenity to this dense woodland.

In front of him sat a four-meter-long tiger demon. There were two cups of tea set on a stone table, giving off a hospitable air. Qin Yuanhao subconsciously relaxed his guard and quickened his pace.

Suddenly, his cultivation technique activated automatically. It formed a thin layer of protective film around him that blocked an unknown attack, leaving only a shallow cut on his neck.

“There’s an ambush!” With his wealth of experience, Qin Yuanhao nimbly jumped back. He saw a nearly invisible fine line stretched in the air at the same height as his neck.

“This noodle is quite useful; it nearly cut his head off,” a voice of schadenfreude came from a tree to Qin Yuanhao’s right. It was Meng Jingzhou.

What Qin Yuanhao saw was not a fine line but Dragon Beard noodles[1] Lu Yang had bought from the dining hall. According to the senior male disciple selling the noodles, this type of noodle could kill without a trace and was best for ambushes. Had it not been for Qin Yuanhao’s special cultivation technique which had an automatic defense function, his head would have already been severed.

“How dare you scheme against me!” Qin Yuanhao glowered at the tiger demon. He didn’t invite me to discuss joining the Yanjiang Branch. It was a trap right from the start!

Unexpectedly, the tiger demon had vanished. The ground beneath Qin Yuanhao’s feet became soft, and the Qingfeng Sword struck him right at his crotch.

Fortunately, Qin Yuanhao was swift to react. His right knee clashed with the Qingfeng Sword and deflected it, successfully protecting his family jewels.

Sensing that the situation was not in his favor, he turned and fled. I’m totally unprepared while the other party is totally prepared. How am I supposed to fight back?

“It must be fellow diabolic cultivators!” Qin Yuanhao was sure about his conjecture. That sword’s attack was too wicked; how could any righteous cultivator fight like that?

Man Gu had been waiting behind him for a long time. He swung a tree at Qin Yuanhao, sending him flying far away.

“Hmm, why does it feel like nothing?” Man Gu was perplexed. I had clearly hit the target, but it felt like hitting a piece of paper.

Despite being thrown a distance away, he was unscathed, and his fighting spirit undiminished.

“Watch out for his cultivation technique; it’s very freakish!” Man Gu reminded loudly.

“You're just a few juniors and you think you can deal with me? You’re a hundred years too early!” Qin Yuanhao laughed out loud. As long as they can’t figure out the true purpose of my cultivation technique, no one can catch me.

Lu Yang leaped into the air with composure, aiming his identity jade pendant at Qin Yuanhao. “Capture!”

Qin Yuanhao was momentarily stunned, yet to register what was happening. This jade pendant looks like an alternative storage ring, but a storage ring can’t capture me.

He then noticed that the trio were giving him strange looks. Slowly looking down, he realized that he was naked, not knowing when his clothes had mysteriously disappeared.

Qin Yuanhao’s clothes had been absorbed into the jade pendant, leaving him shivering out in the open in just his underwear.

“F*ck, you guys are the freakish ones!”
