Chapter 326: Three Visits to the Barbeque Shop

“I heard there’s a barbeque shop in Yanjiang Commandery that can boost one’s yang virility. This is the one?”

“Absolutely! Hurry up and queue. I thought we were early enough, but apparently we still have to wait in line! This place closed three months ago, and even though it has just reopened, business is even better than before. I came once during the Spring Harvest Festival, and the flavors were pretty good!”

“So, all the staff went off for training and came back with great gains?

“Probably.”

“I wonder if we’ll get to have a taste today. Heard some folks waited in line for days without success.”

~~~
“What a booming business!” Shi Huagu finally understood the true scale of the shop’s popularity now that he stood before its entrance rather than observing it from a distance.
The Nine-Netherworlds Creed operated many businesses, but none attracted crowds of this magnitude.
The line stretched from their entrance all the way to the neighboring shop’s doorway, completely blocking it. However, the neighboring shop didn’t mind—impatient customers would visit their shop instead, making their business even better than before.
Huo Huashen transmitted an auditory message. “Apparently, this shop used to offer delivery but discontinued it because they can’t even handle the dine-in customers now.
“Zhou Shan and I originally wanted to try it ourselves, but we couldn’t get through the queue. We could only inquire with customers around the area.”
Shi Huagu snorted coldly and prepared to barge right into the shop. “Have you forgotten who we are? Why do we have to wait in line?”
Two Divine Transfiguration cultivators and one Fusion cultivator—this lineup is already enough to establish a second-class sect. Even first-class sects have to receive us with respect.
This is a mere barbeque shop. It’s not like it’s the headquarters of the Heavenly Court Creed.
“There are people cutting the line here!”
“Hey! You three got no manners?!”
“Uncivilized!”
The people in line cursed loudly as they saw the trio walk inside the shop, but Shi Huagu and his companions paid them no heed.
Suddenly, a graceful figure blocked their path. “Stop there! Can’t you see there’s a queue?”
Qin Yanyan stood at the entrance, eyes burning with fury. Everyone is lining up, so why are you three the only ones not following the rules? She didn’t recognize them. Huo Huashen had previously remained hidden, with only Lu Yang noticing his presence.
Shi Huagu was about to flare up when Huo Huashen hastily sent him an auditory message. “Your Excellency, this is Creed Leader Qin’s reincarnation, Qin Yanyan.”
“What?” Shi Huagu was flummoxed.
Qin Haoran had been at the helm of the Nine-Netherworlds Creed for nine centuries. Although he had passed away, his prestige in the creed remained. Shi Huagu was fully aware that he was no match for the former creed leader, whether in methods or cultivation, and held genuine respect for him.
“It looks like the Heavenly Court Creed has already learned of our arrival and deliberately sent Creed Leader Qin’s reincarnation to intercept us! Is this their way of subtly declaring their territory, that we must follow the rules of the Heavenly Court Creed now that we’re here? Moreover, by having Creed Leader Qin’s reincarnation maintain order here, are they implying that no matter one’s status, it holds no weight before the Heavenly Court Creed?” Shi Huagu was highly astute, deducing the underlying intentions quickly.
He dared not offend the Heavenly Court Creed. They’re from the ancient era, possess an enormous wealth of foundation, and have at least one Transcendent Tribulation cultivator among their ranks, or possibly even several of them. They’re far beyond what a mere Fusion cultivator like me can provoke.
“Fine! We’ll get in line then!”
The three higher-ups of the Nine-Netherworlds Creed joined the line at the back and waited until the middle of the night. Just when they were left with only four or five people in front of them, Qin Yanyan appeared at the doorway again. “Apologies, we’re closing.”
Shi Huagu’s face turned stormy, but he could only restrain his anger. “Hmph! We’ll come back tomorrow!”
~~~

The next morning, before the barbeque shop opened, Shi Huagu arrived at the entrance with his two subordinates.

Surely we don’t have to queue when it’s so early in the day?

The doors to the barbeque shop swung open, revealing Constable Captain Wei inside, chatting amiably with Lu Yang.

“Congratulations, Constable Captain Wei—no, I should call you Chief Constable Wei now!” Lu Yang grinned. After they got rid of the previous commandery governor, the chief constable was promoted to commandery governor, and Constable Captain Wei seamlessly took over the reins as chief constable. Saving ten years of his career time, it was like reaching the sky in one leap.

Chief Constable Wei smiled from ear to ear. “You speak too highly of me. The title sounds impressive, but it’s exhausting every day. I doubt the monthly salary can even compare to your barbeque shop’s daily earnings.”

Lu Yang simply smiled in response. That is the truth; it’s tricky to answer him.

Chief Constable Wei did not dwell too long on this topic. “Your shop played a part in my promotion to chief constable! Little Manager Lu, remember those friends of yours who engaged in a public brawl here? They got caught red-handed and were locked up for a few days. Not long after that, the Everlasting Creed was wiped out, and their member list was released. Turns out those two were from the Everlasting Creed!

“Little Manager Lu, you have to be more careful when choosing your friends. Your eyesight and judgment aren’t cutting it. It must have been so dangerous. They might have set their sights on you to be the Everlasting Creed’s sacrificial offering!”

Lu Yang laughed heartily, promising to be more discerning when making friends in the future.

“Your barbeque shop has reopened for half a month, but there’s still no criminals walking into the trap here. What a pity. If only some foolish and reckless ones would show up here, even better if they're members of diabolic creeds. That way, I can solidify my position as chief constable.” Catching himself letting his tongue slip, Chief Constable Wei chuckled as he shook his head. “Jeez, what am I even saying? It’s like I’m cursing your place to have diabolic creed members.”

Suddenly, Chief Constable Wei noticed Shi Huagu and the others at the door and asked curiously, “Are these your friends?”

“Where?” Lu Yang turned, but the trio was already long gone.

“I don’t see anyone though?”

“Maybe they were just passing by.”

~~~
“Heavenly Court Creed, huh? Chatting jovially with the righteous path, especially the chief constable who wishes to capture members of diabolic creeds! Are they flaunting their strength and methods to us?!” Shi Huagu had interacted with officials on numerous occasions and understood that those at the rank of chief constable would possess a type of token. If a chief constable faced an enemy they couldn’t handle, they would crush the token, summoning cultivation experts as reinforcements.
“Your Excellency, what do we do?”
“We’ll queue again tonight!”
~~~

“We’ve been waiting here for half a month. Why hasn’t anyone from the Nine-Netherworlds Creed come?” Meng Jingzhou was puzzled. The people from the Nine-Netherworlds Creed should have arrived by now.

“Niece, you’ve been guarding the entrance all day long. Have you seen anybody who looks like they’re from the Nine-Netherworlds Creed?”

Qin Yanyan shook her head innocently. Although there were a few rude people who wanted to barge in, after I called them out and berated them, they obediently joined the queue at the back. The Nine-Netherworlds Creed probably won’t be this easy to reason with, right?

Lu Yang also found it odd. The Heavenly Court Creed I fabricated should have convinced anyone knowledgeable about the ancient era; someone like that should exist in the Nine-Netherworlds Creed. Since they believe in the Heavenly Court Creed, they will definitely send someone over.

“Let’s wait some more.”

~~~
That night, Shi Huagu’s trio, having learned their lesson, came to line up early. This time, they were lucky, with only twenty people in front of them.
After waiting for a long time, it was finally their turn.
“Three jin of lamb skewers!”
