Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Might as Well Lock it Down

The man had a crew cut and looked sharp and capable, lightly tapping on the car window.

Esther Carter frowned and put down the window, blurting out, "Are you nuts? Can’t you see we’re busy? If you spoil my plans, you better compensate me!"

The man smiled politely at her, speaking efficiently, "Are you looking for our madam?"

Esther replied irritably, "Who knows who your madam is? Step aside, it has nothing to do with you! Don’t get in the way!"

Just now, Elara had said that Grandma Fitzwilliam had just left, and it’s only been a little while—definitely couldn’t miss it!

Unexpectedly, the man wasn’t driven away by her scolding but remained all smiles, speaking politely, "Our madam is the grandmother of the Mr. Fitzwilliam who Miss Hale just married."

The relationships seemed a bit tangled, taking Esther a few seconds to digest this before she exclaimed, "What did you say?"

The man smiled and turned slightly, indicating to her the Bentley not far away, "Our madam hopes you and your friend could be kind enough to have a chat in the car."

A minute later.

Esther and Zara Dalton awkwardly got out of the car.

Oh dear, if only the heavens could show mercy, the two of them just wanted to secretly observe, unexpectedly caught by the principal! 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Esther looked at the man a few steps ahead, desperately tugging at Zara’s sleeve, "Does this count as invading privacy rights? If they pursue responsibility, what will we do!"

Zara’s face turned ashen, whispering, "I think you should worry more about Elara. Grandma Fitzwilliam’s background isn’t small."

Esther felt a jolt in her heart; oh right, how could she forget, Grandma Fitzwilliam was sitting in a Bentley! When they saw this Bentley yesterday, they instinctively ruled it out, unexpectedly it really is...

What kind of family could afford a Bentley...

Was that Zion Fitzwilliam really some secret big shot?

The two got into the Bentley, sharing the same concern.

Inside sat an elderly lady with a full head of silver hair, yet her spirit was glowing. Although dressed differently from yesterday, she exuded an air of wealth and nobility.

Zara, considering himself somewhat manly, took a glance at Esther who had turned utterly quiet, steeled himself, and said, "Hello, Grandma Fitzwilliam, we’re friends of Elara. We did tail you, mainly because we were concerned she might be dragged into danger. If we offended you, we apologize."

Esther also prepared herself; at worst, they would face the fallout, although it might bring trouble to Elara.

Yet, to their surprise, Grandma Fitzwilliam’s face was all smiles, with a tone full of kindness, "I know you, Elara only has you two as close friends. You care for her, how could I blame you."

Esther and Zara were momentarily puzzled, "Then why did you call us up..."

Grandma Fitzwilliam laughed warmly, "I have a favor to ask from you!"

"A favor from us?" Esther and Zara were even more perplexed.

Grandma Fitzwilliam sighed, "To be honest, I really like Elara, I felt a bond the moment I met her. It’s a pity that Zion, that rotten kid, is just hopeless. Even hand-holding guidance to woo a girl doesn’t stick!"

Zara and Esther exchanged a startled glance.

So what was this about? Elara and Zion entered a sham marriage, yet Zion’s family took a liking to Elara, firmly believing in this daughter-in-law?

Were they wanting the two of them to play wingmen?

But surely Grandma Fitzwilliam wasn’t aware that her grandson was gay, right? At her age and with a bad heart, they couldn’t risk any shocks.

This definitely couldn’t be laid bluntly.

So, the two nodded enthusiastically, "No problem, we’ll speak highly of Mr. Fitzwilliam in front of Elara!"

"We’ll make efforts to create opportunities for Mr. Fitzwilliam and Elara to be alone together!"

Grandma Fitzwilliam didn’t expect them to be so understanding, laughing heartily, "Good, good, then it’s settled. You two must work hard, when I get the great-grandchild, I’ll give you both a big red envelope!"

"Too kind, too kind."

"It’s our duty really."

Zara tentatively said, "Then we’ll take our leave?"

"Alright, take care!" Grandma Fitzwilliam waved enthusiastically.

Zara and Esther also waved warmly, "Goodbye, Grandma Fitzwilliam!"

Off the car, they respectfully watched the Bentley leave, waving with smiles.

Once the Bentley drove off, both of their shoulders simultaneously slumped.

"We’ve taken on a big deal, the family Elara married into isn’t simple indeed."

"More importantly, they have taken a liking to Elara. If they knew the two entered a sham marriage, can they let it go?"

Zara and Esther exchanged a look, confirming with each other the same thought.

This sham marriage can’t be played out as casually as initially planned.

Evening, The Tangerine Club.

Esther quietly drank three bottles of beer before sitting beside Elara Hale, slurring slightly, "Elara, I think it’s fine actually, you carrying on with your family arrangement. Think about it, you got hurt emotionally, uninterested in men. He likes men, uninterested in women. You two are like a match made in heaven!"

Zara nodded fiercely beside her, "Exactly, exactly; living together you can take care of each other, pure roommate relationship won’t cause trouble, might as well settle down with it!"

Elara looked at her suddenly eager friends, feeling overwhelmed, "What’s gotten into you..."
