Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 189: So Your Wife’s Pregnancy Makes You Special?
Zion Fitzwilliam texted back quickly, "I’m outside, I can take Elara back anytime."
Esther Carter silently felt touched, the great Mr. Fitzwilliam really hadn’t left, he had been waiting outside all this time.
Suddenly it felt like such a good person being given up by Elara was really tragic.
"I think," Esther Carter grabbed Elara Hale, "the things you’re worried about, maybe you should talk to Zion about them? Maybe you’re just overthinking it? Or maybe he has a way to avoid those troublesome things. At the very least, spend more time with him, and who knows, you might feel this man is worth sacrificing a bit for?"
Elara Hale was silent for a moment, then said, "I don’t want to put him in a difficult position."
Love is a matter of mutual consent; she couldn’t accept a relationship with such a huge gap. It was her issue, and letting him compromise for her would be unfair to him.
Elara Hale didn’t want to do anything that would take advantage of someone.
Esther Carter pushed further, "You used to like him so much, and now that you’ve finally discovered your feelings are mutual, don’t you think it’s a pity to just give up like that?"
Elara Hale paused her action of changing shoes.
After a while, she smiled helplessly, "But if it’s not suitable, then it’s just not suitable, what can I do."
Esther Carter opened her mouth but couldn’t find more words to console her.
She could only silently light a candle for the great Mr. Fitzwilliam in her heart.
Elara Hale was originally planning to catch a cab back home, but as soon as she stepped out of the neighborhood, she saw Zion Fitzwilliam, his car still parked in the same place, and he was standing in front of it, under the streetlight, looking somewhat lonely.
Elara Hale had never seen anyone wait like him; he wasn’t looking down at his phone, nor doing anything else to pass the time, just simply waiting.
He was the head of the Fitzwilliam Family, his time should be quite valuable, right?
Elara Hale thought that even when she was waiting for Esther, she would idly play on her phone out of boredom. She couldn’t do what Zion Fitzwilliam was doing.
This gave a feeling that touched the soul, making it seem like for him, she was the only one, the only color in his world, at least for the time he devoted to waiting for her, she was his everything.
At this moment, Elara Hale’s heart, which was not very firm to begin with, wavered again.
Because he was really a good person.
Zion Fitzwilliam had already seen her, the corners of his mouth instinctively curved into a gentle smile, "Have you eaten?"
Elara Hale nodded, "I’ve eaten."
After answering, she realized something was off, remembering those exquisite packages with exceptional taste, which were clearly not the usual style of takeout she and Esther often had. She paused and asked, "Were those meals sent by you?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Zion Fitzwilliam raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised that she noticed, and explained, "I had the chef at home make them and sent them to you."
Afraid she might find him intrusive, he added, "It’s not about controlling you, just noticed you didn’t eat much in the evening, worried takeout might not be clean or you might not have an appetite, so I sent them over."
Elara Hale silently nodded and walked to the car, opened the door but didn’t get in, asked, "Did you never leave after bringing me here?"
Zion Fitzwilliam, thinking she was angry, hurriedly said, "I wasn’t monitoring you, just worried... in case you wanted to go home, it would be hard to get a cab at night."
Elara Hale was taken aback, then gently smiled, after a while said, "Thank you."
Then she got in the car.
A "thank you" felt like a cold splash on Zion Fitzwilliam’s heart, when she first started seeing him, she was quite polite like this, after spending so much time together, she had become close to him, but upon knowing his identity, she became formal again.
All the hard work seemed to revert overnight.
Zion Fitzwilliam paused before saying, "It’s what I’m supposed to do."
He started the car and heard Elara Hale say, "There is no supposed to or not supposed to, I’m about to divorce you, you don’t need to lower yourself like this... you’re not my servant, no need to wrong yourself for me."
Every word of hers was for his sake, yet every word was pushing him away.
Zion Fitzwilliam gripped the steering wheel slightly tighter, then smiled, "Didn’t I say? You have the right to refuse, and I have the right to chase after you, you can’t just stop me from pursuing you can you?"
Elara Hale looked at his face in the rearview mirror, her heart tightened, after a while she said, "Zion, can’t we part on good terms?"
"No," Zion Fitzwilliam replied immediately, his tone a bit shameless, paused, then relaxed a little, smiled and said, "Your refusal is your business, me chasing you, is mine. Elara, you can’t bully someone just because they like you."
Elara Hale turned her head to look out the window, stopped talking.
Zion Fitzwilliam said, "Don’t think about those things now, go back and rest well."
Elara Hale responded with a "hmm".
He was so gentle she couldn’t even bear to say a harsh word.
Very soon they arrived home, Miles Morgan was sitting in the living room. Upon seeing Zion Fitzwilliam return, he immediately stood up and said, "President Fitzwilliam, Miss Joanne Carter is already asleep, homework is all done, and she has reviewed and prepared her lessons."
Zion Fitzwilliam nodded, "Thank you for your hard work."
Miles Morgan felt a bit guilty, rubbing his nose, actually, President Fitzwilliam called him here to take care of Miss Joanne Carter, but he hadn’t really been of any help, Joanne was very easy-going, didn’t make any mistakes in her homework, didn’t need him to worry at all.
Besides sharing a meal with her, he just sat and watched her finish everything methodically.
This little girl made him, an adult, feel ashamed.
After Miles Morgan greeted Elara Hale, he left.
Elara Hale, with thoughts in mind, looked at Zion Fitzwilliam, "Last time you got drunk, you tricked me into thinking he was your colleague."
She ran all the way to pick him up home, never thought a proper big boss wouldn’t need to be taken care of, with just a move of his finger there were plenty of people to serve.
Yet he insisted on tricking her to pick him up, and once home even got handsy, eventually losing control...
Thinking of this, Elara Hale’s face flushed, she was crazy, how could she bring this up proactively.
Zion Fitzwilliam obviously also remembered that night of losing control, a bit awkwardly said, "It wasn’t intentional, that day I had too much, Miles Morgan decided on his own to call you."
Elara Hale feared if the conversation continued it would become awkward, responded with a "hmm", and went to take a shower.
While she was showering, Zion Fitzwilliam stayed at the door not moving an inch. After knowing she was pregnant, he immediately contacted a renovation company to redo all potential risks at home, the bathroom floor couldn’t be replaced quickly, so he put down non-slip mats.
But he still didn’t feel assured, fearing she might slip.
In the bathroom, Elara Hale also noticed the changes, the floor had non-slip mats, all the sharp corners were covered with soft material, the tiles on the walls were treated for anti-slip, and there were some handrails installed at the height she could reach.
Looking at those handrails, she felt a pang of sadness.
The way Zion Fitzwilliam treated her made her feel like if she kept refusing, it would seem ungrateful.
She sighed lightly, suppressed the emotions in her heart, and turned on the faucet.
After washing up, as soon as she walked out the door, she saw Zion Fitzwilliam waiting at the entrance. She opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. There was no need to ask to guess his intent.
When they slept, it was still one bed, two people.
Zion Fitzwilliam wanted to hold her like before, but Elara Hale gently avoided him.
The divorce needs to be finalized soon, Elara thought silently. Spending more time with him, she feared she would lose her sanity.
She had a dream.
In the dream, she returned to the Jacobs Family, shortly after marrying Mason Jacobs, filled with happiness and wanting to integrate into his world.
But the mockery from the noble ladies at the party, the scorn and ridicule when greeting others, Kylie Dalton resented her, reprimanding her in numerous ways, Mason Jacobs thought she was neither elegant nor sophisticated enough...
She was at a loss amidst everyone’s criticism, those days made her feel like she couldn’t breathe for a moment.
Awaking in the middle of the night, Zion Fitzwilliam turned on the bedside lamp, looked at her worriedly, "Why are you crying? What did you dream about?"
Elara looked at the familiar scene before her, feeling as if she was in a dream, and softly breathed a sigh of relief.
It’s all over, those nightmare-like days are all over.
She lightly smiled at Zion Fitzwilliam, shook her head, "Nothing, maybe I dreamt of something horrible, I forgot as soon as I woke up."
Her words were too perfunctory, Zion Fitzwilliam naturally didn’t believe her, but seeing the deep-seated wariness in her eyes, he ultimately didn’t ask further, just said softly, "Then let’s continue sleeping."
He disregarded her rejection, gently patting her shoulder as if comforting a child.
At first, Elara found it strange, but as he patted her, she surprisingly fell asleep this way, this time the dream had none of the past, only peace was left.
The next morning, Elara Hale finally told Zion Fitzwilliam her decision, "I want to have the child."
After a pause, she added, "If you need, we can each take one of the two children."
Upon hearing this, Zion Fitzwilliam’s heart, which had been suspended all along, finally relaxed. He smiled, "No, the child you give birth to deserves to be with you. Being able to decide to have the child already makes me very happy. I’ll pay enough child support so you won’t have any difficulties in raising the child, and I’ll help with any issues in the child’s growth and education."
Elara Hale didn’t reject this time. Esther Carter was right, for their child, what was the point of being aloof?
She couldn’t deprive someone of their right to be a father either.
"Then, when should we go get the divorce certificate first?" Elara didn’t dare look at Zion Fitzwilliam, "As for Grandma, you can tell her later, I’ll cooperate with you, but I want to get the divorce certificate first."
Zion Fitzwilliam paused, then nodded, "Okay, but maybe not today. I need to take you to the hospital for a thorough checkup first. Having twins is no easy task; I need to be responsible for your health."
Elara didn’t refuse.
At the hospital, she learned that Zion Fitzwilliam had invited Mason Jacobs to bring Northgarde’s best obstetrician-gynecologist. In Mason Jacobs’ office, after a comprehensive evaluation of Elara’s health, the doctor said, "Mild anemia, not serious, but must be careful. Anemia during pregnancy can affect the health of the fetus and mother. Other than that, just regular check-ups will be fine."
Zion Fitzwilliam carefully noted down what the doctor said. After the doctor left, he was about to take Elara away but was pulled into the inner room by Mason Jacobs.
Mason Jacobs gestured apologetically to Elara, "Um, sister-in-law, I need to say a few words to Fitzwilliam, please wait a while."
Elara quickly smiled, "Okay, you guys go ahead and talk, I’ll just sit here."
Inside.
Mason Jacobs quickly paced back and forth, rubbing his hands and sighing, making Zion Fitzwilliam impatient, "Do you have something to say?"
If you have something to say, say it quickly; if not, hurry and get out of the way.
Elara is still waiting for him outside.
Mason Jacobs sighed again, pointing his index finger at his nose, "You, you..."
Then slapped his thigh, "Fitzwilliam, you’re confused!"
"Why did you get the child out?"
"Last time we met you didn’t even know how to win a beauty’s heart, and in just a few days, you got a child out?"
"Honestly, did you do it on purpose? You want to use the child to control a woman, I’m telling you, you’re completely wrong! A woman isn’t that easy to control, you might end up backfiring, and if you make an enemy of her you’ll be dumbfounded!"
"She didn’t like you in the first place, and now you have a child, what if she fights you for child custody in court?"
After a frantic outburst, Zion Fitzwilliam calmly said, "We’ve discussed it, she’ll raise the child, and I’ll pay child support."
Mason Jacobs: ??
"No, Fitzwilliam, are you going to deny it after sleeping with her?" Mason Jacobs couldn’t believe it, "She’s pregnant, and you’re still planning a divorce? Weren’t you quite obsessed with her before?"
Zion Fitzwilliam gave him a warning glance, "Stop talking nonsense."
If Elara heard this, what if she misunderstood?
"She’s the one who wants to divorce me," he sighed, "I don’t have a good way right now, I’ll just muddle through and delay it."
Mason Jacobs was momentarily speechless, could only silently give him a thumbs up.
Finally, he patted his shoulder, comfortingly said, "No matter what, at least you have hope, stronger than us brothers. Our group of brothers can’t all have such bad luck; you surely can grow old together with your wife."
Zion Fitzwilliam was silent for a moment, then honestly said, "I’m not like you, I won’t let her go no matter what, even if she ends up hating me, I can’t let go."
Mason Jacobs smiled, lit a cigarette, "Don’t speak too soon, when that time comes you’ll know. Seeing her in pain, you’ll be more pained than her, and in the end you’ll have to let go for her happiness."
Zion Fitzwilliam pushed away the cigarette Mason offered, decisively said, "Her happiness can only be given by me."
Mason Jacobs shrugged, without comment.
Zion Fitzwilliam disdainfully glanced at the cigarette in Mason’s hand, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll head out first, Elara’s pregnant, she can’t smell cigarette smoke, it’ll upset her stomach, not good for the fetus."
Mason muffled, "Damn, I’m smoking, not you. I’m just smoking one in the room, not outside, is it necessary."
Zion Fitzwilliam sneered, "Being in the same room with you means smelling like you."
In other words, I despise you, extremely despise.
He finished speaking and headed out, Mason glared at the closed door, fuming.
Having a wife is impressive.
Having a pregnant wife is impressive.
What nonsense!
