Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 161: Jacobs Corporation Suffers Unknown Attack
After Special Assistant Wood left, Mason Jacobs sat in the private room for a while, then took out his phone and made a call.
On the other end, Cecilia Quincy saw who was calling and thought she was mistaken.
"...Brother Mason?" She answered, her voice tinged with a hint of surprise.
Could it be that Brother Mason still couldn’t forget her? She knew that before, he was just momentarily confused. He loved her so much, how could he disregard her life?
Recently, she had been renting a small apartment. Her father had stabbed a doctor, she needed money to smooth things over, Caleb Quincy was seriously injured, undergoing daily rehabilitation, which she had to pay for, and her mother kept asking her for money. Her meager savings were almost gone.
Burdened with all these family matters, she didn’t have time to maintain her relationship with Zayne Warner. A few days ago, she finally found time to call Zayne Warner, only to find that his phone number had become inactive!
Now she was completely panicked. She specifically went to Zayne Warner’s apartment several times, but the neighbors told her that the apartment had been sold recently and the original owner was gone.
Unable to contact Zayne Warner, she had no fallback, and her family problems were waiting for her to resolve. Everyone was waiting for her to pay up. How could she not be frantic!
Unexpectedly, just at this time, Mason Jacobs called her.
Heaven was still on her side, Cecilia Quincy thought with some pride.
From the receiver, Mason Jacobs’ voice was cold and indifferent, without any of the previous tenderness. He seemed oblivious to Cecilia Quincy’s expectations, only saying, "I heard Jasmine came to see you."
Cecilia Quincy stiffened. What did this mean? Did he call just to ask about that little brat?
Wasn’t he trying to win her back?
Cecilia Quincy bit her lip, holding back her discontent, and spoke in her sweetest voice, "Ah? Jasmine, yes, she’s with me recently. You know, she has nowhere to go. Originally she was going to be adopted by Elara Hale, but Elara... alas, this child is pitiful. Apart from me, who else can help her?"
Cecilia Quincy’s tone appeared as if she were a truly benevolent person.
In the bathroom, Jasmine, who was working hard with her little hands to scrub Cecilia’s clothes, heard this and her eyes turned red.
In the end, she was left by Cecilia, the cost being that she became Cecilia’s personal maid, unable to go to school, and she had to do many chores every day, serving Cecilia.
Cecilia had many demands, and with someone serving her, she became even more excessive. Her water had to be boiled three times and cooled to 45 degrees, meals had to be served on eight plates, clothes had to be hand-washed, the room’s four-piece bedding had to be changed daily, and the floor had to be mopped twice a day...
She had just turned eleven, and during this time with Cecilia Quincy, it was almost nonstop work.
Without even a moment of personal time.
She had initially planned to study books while working here, and when she had free time, to take a walk outside, hoping she might meet a benefactor who would rescue her from this dire situation... but it all turned into unattainable dreams.
She felt like a bird with clipped wings trapped in a cage, unable to do anything, not even able to return to the welfare institution.
She contacted the welfare institution, and they said her current living conditions didn’t meet the requirements for their support.
Jasmine had become numb, but now Uncle Jacobs suddenly called Cecilia Quincy to ask about her... could it be that Uncle Jacobs wanted to take her back?
Jasmine had a faint sense of hope in her heart, but she dared not show any happiness, only continuing to scrub the clothes hard while listening intently to Cecilia’s phone conversation.
Thank goodness, because the apartment wasn’t big, she could vaguely hear Uncle Jacobs’ words.
"Give me an address, I’ll come over."
Cecilia Quincy’s eyes and brows showed joy, standing up from the sofa, blindly pacing back and forth, "Brother Mason, are you coming to see me?"
Mason Jacobs’ tone seemed a bit impatient, "Cecilia Quincy, don’t have unrealistic fantasies."
Cecilia Quincy felt as though she had been struck by lightning, suddenly remembering that not long ago, Mason Jacobs had said this same sentence to Elara Hale. At that time, she stood beside Mason Jacobs, like a true victor, watching coldly.
How long had it been, and the same words were now thrown at her.
Her fervor cooled down, she sullenly said, "Brother Mason, I know you hate me, but I say it again, my love for you has never changed, whether you believe it or not."
She was well-versed in the art of playing hard to get. After speaking, she adjusted her tone and asked softly, "Do you need something from Jasmine?"
As though despair had overtaken her heart.
Mason Jacobs indeed paused for a moment before saying, "I need something; give me your address."
Cecilia Quincy was annoyed that he refused to reveal any information, but her tone remained gentle, every word her concern for Jasmine, "Brother Mason, Jasmine is doing well with me. We’ve just returned to a peaceful life. If you come to disturb her now, can you provide her with good living conditions? If not, it’s better not to see her. She’s too young; dramatic changes in life aren’t good for her."
On the other end, Mason Jacobs impatiently frowned, "Since I’ve come to find her, I can provide her with a better material foundation."
Cecilia Quincy was silent for a moment and said sadly, "Then come find me now. I’m living in the apartment on Sunkenwood Avenue."
Mason Jacobs recalled that Sunkenwood Avenue seemed to be full of old houses?
Before he could respond, Cecilia Quincy self-deprecatingly chuckled, saying, "Brother Mason, I didn’t expect that in the end, you wouldn’t even want to leave Jasmine with me... But that’s okay, she’ll be much better off with you than with me. After all, I can’t give her anything, not even pay the rent. Come and take her away."
Mason Jacobs heard this and frowned. Before he could reply, Cecilia Quincy ended the call abruptly.
He didn’t think much of it, picked up the car keys from the table, and headed outside.
As he exited the private room, he subconsciously glanced at the private room at the end of the corridor.
That private room was not open to the public all year round, yet Zion Fitzwilliam could go inside.
Who exactly was that man?
Was he genuinely of noble identity or riding on the coattails of Felix Ford and Brandon White?
Mason Jacobs felt as if a large stone weighed on his heart. He hoped it was the latter, because if Zion Fitzwilliam truly had a noble identity, then his hopes of remarrying Elara Hale would become even more difficult.
Perhaps only by holding onto Jasmine could he have a chance.
Mason Jacobs pressed his lips together, no longer hesitating, and turned to leave.
Shortly after he left, a seductive woman in a luxurious cheongsam gently knocked on the door of the private room at the end of the corridor.
Jasmine Doyle, with an elegant grace, walked in front of Zion Fitzwilliam, chuckling softly, "Why didn’t you call me over when you came today, sir?"
Zion Fitzwilliam put down the teacup he was holding, frowned at her, somewhat displeased, "You’re becoming increasingly indiscreet lately."
Jasmine Doyle knew these words were a warning.
But who was she? She was The Poison Lady who detonated the Myarland, even if she cared about Zion Fitzwilliam, she wouldn’t be intimidated by a single look from him.
She continued to smile gracefully, "It’s because I wanted to see you. As soon as I heard you’d arrived, I came right over without thinking."
Zion Fitzwilliam said blandly, "Since you’re here, take a seat, have a seat over there."
Jasmine Doyle didn’t refuse, she walked gracefully to the sofa where Felix Ford was and sat down next to him.
A subtle fragrance wafted over, and Felix Ford shifted to the side.
Jasmine Doyle glanced at him with a half-smile, lifted her hand to take a tea bowl, and teased, "Master Ford still can’t sit with another woman? Chloe Doyle has been married for years, yet you haven’t improved a bit."
Felix Ford picked up the kettle and poured her a glass of water, "None of your business."
Jasmine Doyle glanced at him teasingly, coquettishly saying, "Bad boy, being so fierce to me."
Felix Ford’s face darkened, "If you can’t speak properly, then shut up."
Jasmine Doyle leaned in mischievously, playfully hooked his chin, and said with interest, "Is Master Ford really planning to stay loyal for that woman?"
Felix Ford looked at her coldly, "Get lost!"
Brandon White and Zion Fitzwilliam, seeing this, instinctively sat up straight.
Felix Ford had always disliked Jasmine Doyle, but Jasmine Doyle loved to tease him.
Whenever these two were together, there was always a show to watch.
Jasmine Doyle found it amusing, boredly waved her hand, "Alright, alright, I won’t play with you anymore, I’m not even interested in you."
Felix Ford was already irritable today, and Jasmine Doyle’s antics made him even more so.
He pushed Jasmine Doyle aside and said to Zion Fitzwilliam, "Fitzwilliam, I’m leaving now."
Zion Fitzwilliam stopped him, "What’s wrong?"
Felix Ford stood there, back to everyone, took a deep breath, "Nothing."
Jasmine Doyle covered her little mouth, surprised, "Did I guess right? It’s really about Chloe Doyle? Hasn’t she been married for years?"
After speaking, Felix Ford’s body stiffened.
Jasmine Doyle knew she was right, she couldn’t help but laugh, bending over, clutching her belly as if she had heard the biggest joke ever.
"You still like her? She’s a married woman, your cousin’s wife, what are you thinking? Really," Jasmine Doyle propped her chin and looked at him, "Little brother, as the young master of the Ford Family, don’t lower yourself like this, okay? If you get mixed up with that woman again, what about your grandfather, your parents? What about the family’s honor? Even if you don’t care about those things, do you really want to marry a promiscuous woman who can sleep with any man?"
Felix Ford’s face turned from red to white, he stood there as if struck hard, looking quite frail.
Not just because Jasmine Doyle’s words were harsh, but because... what she said was true.
"You’ve experienced too little, that’s why you’re caught by a gold digger," Jasmine Doyle stood up, hooking his shoulder casually, "I love sleeping with handsome lads like you, a one-night stand with someone pleasing to the eye isn’t a big deal, you seem quite pure, so how about coming home with big sister tonight..."
Felix Ford’s face looked awful, he didn’t even finish listening to her before walking out coldly.
Jasmine Doyle’s giggling followed him out.
Zion Fitzwilliam looked at her, frowning, "You didn’t have to hit him like that."
Jasmine Doyle flicked her hair, "I genuinely want to sleep with him."
Zion Fitzwilliam glanced at her disapprovingly, "You find this amusing?"
Jasmine Doyle blinked seductively, "You don’t?"
Brandon White sighed, shaking his head indescribably, and got up to follow Felix Ford.
Jasmine Doyle carelessly took out a box of ladies’ cigarettes, lit one, tossed the remaining cigarettes and lighter on the table, and looked at Zion Fitzwilliam, "I heard you’re having trouble pursuing Miss Hale? Would you like to talk about it? Women understand women best, maybe I can help."
Zion Fitzwilliam stood up, grabbed his coat from the sofa, turned, and walked out, leaving behind, "No need."
Though he had no experience in love, he knew one iron law: once you have a woman you like, all other women should keep their distance.
Especially in a confined space like this, it’s best to avoid situations with only a man and a woman present, because if there’s a misunderstanding, he wouldn’t be able to explain it.
Jasmine Doyle sat alone in the empty private room, a cigarette dangling from her mouth, she sighed heavily, then slowly put her legs on the sofa, hugging them.
Only when she’s with him does she feel alive. Only then can she experience emotional fluctuations, occasional happiness.
But he avoided her like she was a plague.
All she wants is to feel alive, to live like a human being, how is that wrong?
When Zion Fitzwilliam left Qyria Club, he immediately felt he was being watched.
He dealt with those spies in three minutes, had his men take them away, and ten minutes later, his men reported back, having pried open their mouths.
They were sent by Mason Jacobs, keeping an eye on him.
Mason Jacobs.
Zion Fitzwilliam chuckled; this jumping jack would have been dealt with long ago if he hadn’t feared alerting his target.
Recently, he obtained a medical record; it was Elara Hale’s IVF records during those two years of marriage, the numerous injections made his scalp tingle.
He researched all night on the procedures, couldn’t imagine such thick needles piercing her belly so many times.
Just thinking about it made his heartache to the point of breathlessness, his hatred for Mason Jacobs and the Jacobs Family reached its apex.
He was already restraining his impulse to act against Mason Jacobs, and now Mason Jacobs was coming for him again.
Was it for Elara, or because he sensed what Zion was investigating?
Regardless of the reason, he ought to give Mason a taste of his own medicine.
A warning, a deterrent.
Zion Fitzwilliam pulled out his phone, made a call, gave some instructions, and hung up.
Meanwhile, Mason Jacobs, driving to Cecilia Quincy’s residence, received news.
"President Jacobs, the people we sent to monitor him have all been dealt with," Special Assistant Wood’s voice was full of fear, "Plus, we’ve suffered a hack, company accounts have been leaked, including the ones we haven’t dealt with this month!"
