When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 141: Can’t Bear to Push Away
Bought?
Jiang Shuyao was stunned for two seconds.
Telescopes on the market vary in price from cheap to expensive.
One wouldn’t need it if not an astronomy enthusiast, especially just to see a meteor show once, lugging it all the way to the mountain top should not have cost much.
Jiang Shuyao silently consoled herself, reasoning that it was best not to ask, for asking would only add to her sorrow.
Having known him for over a decade, she was crystal clear about what kind of person he was.
Young Master Pei saving money by buying cheap products? Impossible.
By the time they reached the peak it was five in the afternoon, Jiang Shuyao, empty-handed, got so tired after walking for a while that they stopped frequently to accommodate her; the two-hour trek stretched to three.
She admired Pei Yan’s physical strength; the things on his shoulder weighed at least twenty pounds.
Some of the younger people who came along started panting halfway up the mountain.
Only his black eyes still shone brightly, his energy and strength like a machine that never tires.
A few days ago, Pei Yan had cut his hair, which looked sharper than before, his brows and eyes deep and rugged, exuding an unconcealable wildness.
When they rested along the way, occasionally a guy would glance at Jiang Shuyao, merely taking a few more looks out of appreciation for beautiful things, but they couldn’t withstand his fiery temper; a pair of fierce eyes casually shot over, scaring them into running down the mountain.
She felt both helpless and amused.
Out of curiosity, she asked him, "Are all you guys so petty, getting uncomfortable just because someone looks for a second?"
While she spoke, Jiang Shuyao was sitting on a rock, and Pei Yan stood in front of her, blocking the remaining sunlight, looking down at her.
The corner of his lips carelessly curled, "Men are narrow-minded, only enough to hold one person, understand?"
Jiang Shuyao fell silent.
His words left no room for rebuttal; she closed her eyes contentedly, letting the mountain breeze brush her face, and said with a light smile, "Stop sweet-talking me all the time; I’m not buying your act."
Yet inside, she couldn’t suppress her happiness.
After all, those words came from Pei Yan’s mouth, the guy she liked, not someone else.
When she opened her eyes again, his breath was close at hand, his eyes brimming with gentle affection, and he kissed the corner of her lips.
"Do you take in this act or not?"
The wind carried away the tenderness in his voice, leaving only a burning huskiness.
Jiang Shuyao’s expression stiffened, as she slowly looked into the depths of his profound eyes.
Eighteen years old, her first romance.
She didn’t know where the boundaries between boyfriend and girlfriend lay, but each time he kissed her, her heart would race; even if she felt shy, she couldn’t bring herself to push him away.
His scent was very clean, smelling better than any other boy’s.
Jiang Shuyao lowered her head, her ears blushing.
In such moments, she had no choice but to break the mood, "Someone is coming up, you should step back."
The girl’s figure was slender, sitting on the tall rock, her legs slightly dangling.
The wind lifted her clothes, clinging to her gentle curves; her cheeks and neck exposed were white as porcelain, the tee’s neckline somewhat low, revealing her collarbone, and her profile as she looked up was irresistibly charming.
This scene could give an uninformed passerby the wrong impression, as if the boy had forced himself onto the girl, easily leading to wild imaginings.
The voices of tourists from below the mountain grew nearer.
Pei Yan looked at her moist eyes, her fluttering lashes so unspeakably pretty, and he couldn’t help but harbor some shameless thoughts.
If it weren’t inappropriate, he would truly love to kiss her over and over until content.
As she grew older, the little girl became more and more beautiful.
Her features were flawless.
He couldn’t help touching his own face, wondering if he was a good match for her.
Self-doubt about his looks compelled Pei Yan to unconsciously grasp the girl’s delicate wrist and pull her down.
"After you start university, when we go out on dates, don’t put on makeup."
Jiang Shuyao couldn’t keep up with his train of thought and asked, dumbfounded, "Why?"
The person seemed somewhat agitated, running his hands through his hair.
Then, turning away, he said airily, "I’d feel inferior."
???
Jiang Shuyao, being clever, just thought he was finding new ways to compliment her and didn’t consider any other possibilities.
The scenery along the way was beautiful, cooler in the mountains than outside, with breezes occasionally winding through the trees and the scent of grass and chirping of insects making the climb refreshing.
Jiang Shuyao had never pitched a tent before and sat watching Pei Yan set it up effortlessly. She couldn’t wait to crawl inside.
The girl’s face was alight with excitement, everything felt so fresh to her.
Because of her parents’ occupations, other than weekend outings and childhood visits to amusement parks, she rarely experienced this kind of outdoor camping.
Around eight o’clock, the two sat at the mountain summit and ate something. Pei Yan brought an extra-large thermos, enough for her to drink all night.
The night breeze blew in gusts, and Jiang Shuyao tightened her jacket, looking up at the still sky, "There won’t be a meteor shower tonight, will there? That would be such a waste of effort."
Pei Yan stretched an arm out to pull her close, "If there isn’t, I’ll make one for you."
Tch.
The girl couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
It was rare to see her make such girlish gestures, but when she did, it was incredibly cute.
Pei Yan chuckled softly, pinching her nose, "Roll your eyes for me again."
Breathing constrained, the girl’s face reddened slightly.
She gave him a slight glare, "Let go."
Pei Yan obediently let go, and just as he turned his head back, a long streak of light crossed the distant sky.
"Meteor’s here."
The person beside her said calmly, so Jiang Shuyao’s reaction was subdued.
But as the starlight began to gather in intensity, she couldn’t stay seated and got up from the ground.
It was so beautiful.
She never knew meteors could be so fast, so long.
She picked up her phone to take a picture only to have Pei Yan grasp her wrist, "Make a wish first."
Jiang Shuyao blinked, he actually believed in this.
In the past, Pei Yan indeed did not believe, or rather, he disdained it.
He thought that making wishes to the heavens was effeminate and lacked substance for a man to do.
But tonight, he brought her to the mountain top.
Just to do that unsubstantial thing.
Pei Yan pressed his hands together earnestly, a look of irreverent devotion between his brows, a faint smile tugging at his lips, no one knew what he was wishing for.
Beside him, Jiang Shuyao quietly tilted her head to watch him, in her bright gaze was an affection she herself hadn’t yet noticed.
The hardness faded from the young man’s profile, his eyes softening in an incredible way.
She repeatedly thought, if it weren’t for that incident with Liang Zixiao, if she could never express her feelings, she wondered how long his fondness for her would last.
Some unknown endings were too daunting to contemplate; she would even find it painful to dream of them.
Jiang Shuyao gently closed her eyes, the night wind lifting her hair, strands of it whispering around the young man’s ears.
He always said she was his princess.
A princess has the protection of a knight and will be carefree for life.
But she hoped Pei Yan wasn’t the knight, but the prince.
Because only the prince could be with the princess forever.
She wanted to be with Pei Yan.
Together, forever and ever.
