When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 66: Chi Mo 20
After spending two days in her hometown and another three days learning to drive with an instructor, Tan You finally caught up on everything she had missed. But she didn’t dare drive on the road just yet. After all, the look on her instructor’s face these past few days said it all.
Perhaps it was because he was looking at such a beautiful face, or perhaps it was because Tan You had paid a bit more, but the normally irritable driving instructor was very gentle with her. Even when Tan You messed up, the most the instructor would do was shake his head, keeping his voice much quieter than usual.
After scheduling her next driving lesson with the instructor, Tan You packed her bags and boarded a bullet train to S City.
Thanks to the boost from her recent video, Tan You had been much more cautious when going out lately. She had everything: a hat, a mask, a scarf, and more. Of course, she wasn’t a celebrity, and with the way she was bundled up like a ball, it was unlikely anyone would recognize her anyway.
She arrived safely in S City, and just as she was walking out of the exit, Tan You was pulled into a big hug by Gao Jing. She hugged Gao Jing back. "What are you doing here? I could have found you guys on my own."
Gao Jing grinned. "I had a job nearby, so it was a convenient coincidence. Wenwen and Lin Meng are already at the restaurant waiting for you. Want to grab a bite to eat with us first?"
Pushing her suitcase, Tan You replied, "Sure. Did you bring the kids? I really want to meet your little girl. I even brought a gift for her."
The smile in Gao Jing’s eyes deepened. "I did. They want to meet you too. I’ve met Wenwen’s daughter, and she’s just adorable."
Tan You’s pace quickened. "I can’t wait..."
The two of them talked and laughed as they headed to the parking lot. Gao Jing waved her hand excitedly. "I saw your video got a great response! It has hundreds of thousands of comments now. Has anyone from the industry contacted you?"
Tan You shrugged. "Some people have sent private messages, but I don’t want to join the industry. I’m happy with how things are now. I’m not giving up my job at the dance troupe. For a dancer, not dancing is like having her wings clipped. But who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind one day?"
Gao Jing thought about it and agreed. "That’s true. The industry isn’t as glamorous as people think. There’s too much dirty stuff going on. We’re clean; no need to go wading into those muddy waters."
Tan You smiled. "That’s exactly what I was thinking."
After meeting up with Gao Jing, Tan You took off her hat and mask, leaving only a scarf tied around her neck. Now, whenever she smiled, countless eyes fell upon her, and some people would even turn back for another look after brushing past her.
Gao Jing snickered. "The trouble with being beautiful~"
Tan You sighed in exasperation, pulling her scarf up higher, leaving only her bright, stunning eyes visible. "Let’s just go."
Inside the restaurant, Zhou Wenwen and Lin Meng were looking after the children. There was Zhou Wenwen’s little girl, Ningning, and Gao Jing’s son, Dashuai, and daughter, Tongtong.
Ningning rested her chin in her hands. "Why isn’t Auntie Jingjing here yet? I’m getting impatient."
Zhou Wenwen said gently, "Auntie Jingjing went to pick up your Auntie Momo. Do you remember Auntie Momo? Mommy has told you about her."
Ningning’s eyes instantly lit up. She struck a dance pose with her hands. "You mean *that* Auntie Momo? I love her! Auntie Momo is so pretty!"
Tongtong got excited too. "You like Auntie Momo too, big sister? I like her too!"
Dashuai sighed like a world-weary old man. "Sigh. I guess it’s up to me to hold this family together."
Lin Meng teased him, "You don’t like Auntie Chi Mo?"
At the thought of Chi Mo’s face, Dashuai’s own little face turned a bit red. After a long moment, he said, "I like her."
Zhou Wenwen chuckled. "Our Momo’s beauty wins over everyone, from kindergarteners to eighty-year-olds."
"I heard Auntie Chi Mo prepared gifts for all of you. Are you all excited?"
The three children shouted in unison, "Yes!"
Although this was a private gathering, how could the production crew pass up a scene like this? Cameras had already been set up near their table, and a director and cameraman were waiting on the sidelines.
Ningning, with her sharp eyes, spotted Gao Jing and Chi Mo in the hallway. "Tongtong, Auntie Momo is here! She’s so pretty!"
Tongtong hopped off her chair, her little feet tentatively trying to take a step out, but Lin Meng pulled her back. "No, sweetie. The restaurant is full of people coming and going. Let’s not bother anyone. Your Auntie Momo will be over in a moment."
Ningning, who was a little older, said, "Auntie Mengmeng, I won’t go outside. Can I wait for Momo at the entrance?"
Zhou Wenwen stood up. "Alright, I’ll take you guys over. What about you, handsome? Are you coming too?"
Dashuai tried his best to look calm as he hopped off his chair. "I’ll go too, I guess."
Despite his words, he was the first one to set off, his retreating back practically screaming with eagerness. Zhou Wenwen followed behind, holding a little girl’s hand in each of her own, clearly finding it adorable how his actions gave away his true feelings.
Chi Mo had just reached the restaurant entrance when two little girls threw their arms around her legs. She glanced down and saw two exquisitely adorable little faces looking up at her, their smiles especially bright.
Tan You pretended to think. "Let me guess... you’re Ningning, and you’re Tongtong, right?"
Tongtong, being the younger one, asked, "Auntie Momo, how did you know it was me?"
Tan You replied, "You look just like your mom. Auntie could tell right away."
She squatted down and nuzzled her cheek against each of the girls’, her voice softening unconsciously. "It’s so nice to meet you, pretty Tongtong and pretty Ningning."
"And hello there, handsome."
Tan You’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled at Dashuai. He just stared at her, and she watched as his face grew redder and redder. Gao Jing burst out laughing. "I knew it! Let’s see you keep up that prim-and-proper act now!"
Dashuai squirmed. "Mom!"
Tan You gently tugged Dashuai’s little hand. "Let’s just ignore your mom. We should go to our seats and not block the way here."
Tongtong and Ningning tugged at the hem of Tan You’s clothes. "I want to hold hands too! I want to hold hands!"
With a little girl in each hand, Tan You couldn’t hold Dashuai’s hand anymore. He slowly walked over to Gao Jing’s side. "I’ll stay with Mom."
Gao Jing gently squeezed her son’s cheek. "Do you have to sound so reluctant?"
Dashuai’s survival instincts were razor-sharp. "I’m not reluctant! Not reluctant at all."
Only after she was done talking to the children did Tan You have time to greet Zhou Wenwen. "Wenwen, long time no see. I think you’ve become even more sophisticated and charming."
Zhou Wenwen laughed. "Is this the difference between being on the show and off? I never knew you were such a smooth talker."
Tan You replied, "I’m just telling the truth. I love the sophisticated style, but unfortunately, I can’t pull it off."
’Chi Mo can’t pull it off, but I should be able to, right?’ Tan You decided then and there. From now on, she would strive for an elegant and sophisticated style!
Once they sat down at the table, the women naturally had endless things to talk about, mostly catching up on all the recent happenings. They couldn’t help but laugh, especially when Tan You shared her experiences learning to drive.
With a deadpan expression, Tan You said, "My memory is fine, but my body just isn’t that coordinated. I can’t help it. Every time I make a mistake, I don’t even dare to look at my instructor."
