When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 62: Chi Mo 16
Gao Jing shot Xiang Zhe a look. Xiang Zhe sighed silently and put his arm around Xu Jike’s shoulder. "Our flights are on the same plane. If we don’t go now, we’ll miss it. Let’s go."
Shi Lei grabbed Xu Jike’s suitcase. "Let’s go together. I’m heading to the airport too."
To be honest, he found Xu Jike’s transfixed gaze disgraceful. But he couldn’t just leave him here. It was better to get him away.
Tan You was oblivious to everything happening with Gao Jing’s group; she was in her room, completely focused on her dance practice. She had no idea what the director and Brother Chuan were discussing on the side. It wasn’t until she stopped for a water break that she noticed Teacher Xu sitting alone, watching her from time to time while sketching something on a piece of paper.
Tan You wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Where’s Brother Chuan?"
Teacher Xu replied, "Those two are outside discussing how to film. I think the director is planning something big this time."
Tan You said, "Then I’ll practice some more. I want to be at my absolute best."
Tan You had always believed in the principle of either not doing something at all or doing it to the best of her ability. Since others were investing their efforts, she couldn’t be the one to drag them down. She couldn’t let their hard work go to waste.
Before lunch, the director came over with the shooting schedule. "This afternoon, we’re heading to the river-rafting location in the forest. Tomorrow morning, the snow mountain. If we stick to this schedule, we can have the video ready by tomorrow afternoon."
"Then we’ll upload it to the short-video platforms tomorrow night, and that’s a wrap."
Tan You pressed her lips together. "Then I’ll be in your hands, Director. You’re amazing at filming people."
If nothing else, this director was a master at filming beautiful women. From what Tan You had seen in Chi Mo’s memories, every woman he put on camera looked breathtakingly beautiful.
The director laughed. "That’s also because you’re beautiful enough. Little Chi, are you interested in acting?"
"It’s already a lifelong challenge for me to perfect my dancing. I don’t think I could take on anything else. It’s enough to focus on doing one thing well at a time," Tan You said lightly. "Besides, I’m not a professionally trained actor, and I don’t know how to act."
"You don’t need to know how to act," the director said, his face lighting up. "How about this: if I have a role that requires dancing in the future, I’ll contact you. Your dancing is truly excellent."
Tan You didn’t refuse this offer. "That’s no problem. I can dance, but I really can’t act."
Getting her confirmation put the director in an even better mood. "I’ll remember that. When I’m filming and have a suitable role for you, you can’t turn me down."
Tan You agreed immediately. "Don’t worry, I definitely won’t."
She hadn’t completely shut the door on the idea. ’I’m not interested in acting myself, but who knows what Chi Mo would have wanted?’ she thought. For now, it was best to build the connection. She’d worry about the future later.
Teacher Xu asked curiously, "Are you planning to direct a movie, Director?"
The director said, "What director doesn’t dream of making a movie? I haven’t decided on anything yet, but I’m putting a pin in it with Little Chi for now. I have a feeling she’s going to blow up."
Teacher Xu laughed as well. "With Little Chi’s qualities, it’d be a crime if she didn’t get famous."
She watched Tan You, who had started practicing again, pursed her lips, and added, "Her ex-husband was truly blind to divorce her."
"A divorce is a divorce. She’ll find someone better," the director said with a sly smile, looking like a plump fox. "There are always people with a good eye for talent these days. Maybe leaving him is for the best for Little Chi."
"That’s true. If your values don’t align, it’s impossible to make it work in the long run," Teacher Xu nodded. "A girl this beautiful... the male guests on your show are not worthy of her."
While Tan You hadn’t paid attention to the situation outside, Teacher Xu had seen it. The other two men were more or less okay, but that one man who looked so shrewd... Teacher Xu’s impression of him was decidedly not good.
The director chuckled. "There is that, yes. But this is a dating show. Even if they’re a bad match, we have to grit our teeth and keep filming."
Teacher Xu shook her head. "You old fox. What time are we leaving this afternoon?"
The director replied, "Let’s head out after lunch. We’ll try to get it all done within two days. Little Chi’s face and figure are just out of this world."
Teacher Xu said, "You don’t have to tell me. From what I’ve seen, she looks good in any style. In historical costumes, she has a gentle grace, and in modern clothes, she’s bright and playful. Her face is just so versatile."
"Just looking at her makes my hands itch. I wish I could style her and make pretty little dresses for her every day."
Brother Chuan added, "And I want to take her picture every day..."
After lunch, Tan You set off for the filming location with the director, Brother Chuan, Teacher Xu, and two other crew members. The main production group had already left that morning; the assistant director would naturally help with what remained.
After all, who was to blame for the director "shirking his duties" to go work with Tan You?
"CUT! That’s a take!" the director shouted through a small megaphone, reviewing the footage they had just shot. "Take five. We’ll get a few more pickup shots, and then we’re done for the day."
The moment he spoke, Tan You’s taut nerves immediately relaxed. She had high standards, but the director was no less demanding. It was as if the two of them had gotten into a competition, each determined to achieve perfection.
They had originally planned to film the dance two or three times, but in the end, Tan You had danced it more than ten times. Of course, the results of their efforts were gratifying. At least, Tan You thought it looked exceptional when she saw it. The director had perfectly captured the beautiful, ethereal mood she was aiming for.
Teacher Xu draped a down jacket over Tan You. "You okay?"
Tan You forced a smile. "I’m fine. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can go back."
Perhaps it was because she had found something to focus on so intently, but Tan You felt she could even overcome the bitter cold outside. Of course, the moment she stepped out of her dancing mindset, the cold was still cold.
As the sun began to set, the orange-red afterglow fell upon the forest, casting mottled reflections. The director looked at the scene and suddenly beamed. "Let’s shoot it one more time. The same scenery will have a completely different effect when filmed at a different time of day."
Tan You had an eye for artistry as well. "There’s a desolate feeling to it now. The dance moves should probably be changed to match."
The director loved how quickly she understood. "Perfect. You improvise as you see fit. Little Chi, you’re a real clutch performer."
Tan You completely agreed with the director. She usually seemed unassuming, but she was the classic type who thrived under pressure. Whenever it came to a crucial moment, she could always deliver something extraordinary.
Taking her position in the center of the shoot, Tan You didn’t perform the same dance from the afternoon. Instead, a ritualistic dance she had once seen came to mind.
Her expression grew solemn, her chin lifting slightly. Without realizing it, Teacher Xu sat up straighter. The director was so excited he slapped his thigh. "She’s in the zone! She’s in the zone..."
Teacher Xu remained silent, simply pulling out her phone and starting to film the figure in the center.
Perhaps it was the beauty of the sunset, or perhaps Tan You’s state of mind had perfectly merged with the dance. Every one of her movements was filled with a solemn dignity, accompanied by an undercurrent of unconcealable, tragic grandeur.
