When system cheat becomes rampant!-Chapter 630 - 465: The Broken Tower
The downtown area was thriving and located inland, so the buildings were relatively tall, with about forty stories each. The building in front of them had been contorted into a bizarre shape, and by the thirteenth floor, it looked as if there had been a fault line, and it was already beginning to lean, with the entire building starting to tilt to one side.
Many people on the street were screaming; some were running into the building, trying to rescue others, while some were running out in a panic. Numerous martial artists had hurried over and sealed off the building.
"Don't get close! There's a problem with the space here!" a city guardian shouted loudly, maintaining order at the scene and preventing martial artists who wanted to enter the building to save others.
"My wife is still inside, I must save her!" a burly man with a beard cried out in desperation.
"Many spaces in this building have already been destroyed. The elevators, stairs, and transport floors are all blocked. We are arranging for flying martial artists to conduct the rescue. Please don't panic and don't cause us any trouble!" another man yelled.
However, the building was too tall, and with many windows also skewed, their spatial abilities had shattered; martial artists in both the Qi-Controlling and Meridian Opening stages were helpless.
It's not the fault of these city guard members, as such "System Snail Dwellings" meant for secure living had various requirements, with a very high protective coefficient. Some places even had SR-level system protections. These guards were powerless against such things and could only wait for higher-level individuals to rescue them.
"I just saw with my own eyes that my neighbor—he...he was cut in half by a sudden black fissure that appeared. It's too..." a woman seemed dazed and frightened, her speech stammered, that dreadful image had left her with a deep trauma.
"I just ran towards the transport elevator but it was full. The door hadn't completely closed when I saw... I saw that the middle of the elevator looked as if half a meter had been neatly sliced away by something out of thin air, but it wasn't just the elevator that was cut, there were also...there were also people crammed inside..."
Another girl couldn't stop crying, unable to continue her story. Whether missing the elevator was luck or not, she eventually found an undamaged window to jump from, caught by a martial artist below.
"This Snail Dwelling building housed over five thousand people! How could such a building, which even those in the God Refining stage couldn't destroy, collapse like this?"
"Void Devouring Insects, I just saw a bunch of black bugs crawling by!"
...
While many were still discussing in a panic, countless flying martial artists were searching for room entrances in the air, attempting to rescue everyone they could from the windows. However, with the spatial abilities collapsed, some windows were problematic; there was simply no way to enter.
Trying to break the walls with brute force was even more out of the question. Not to mention whether their strength could break through the wall made of special materials, with the building ready to collapse at any moment, any vibration could cause the spatial system to fail even more severely, trapping even more people inside.
At that moment, the building emitted a cracking noise. The thirteenth floor had suffered the most damage and had begun to lean outward, toppling towards another building! More screams emitted from within, and the onlookers below were likewise frozen with fear.
"Run! Run! The building is collapsing!" someone roared.
People on the streets fled in every direction, fearing being hit by the teetering building. The people inside felt despair, trapped in corners as the building leaned more, with increasing spatial fissures. In the nearby void, black cracks began to appear, and anyone touched by these fissures was instantly shredded.
"No way to save them, retreat! Retreat!"
A Law Enforcer helplessly directed his rescue squad to withdraw from the building's vicinity; even for those in the air, there was nothing they could do. Those who could jump out of windows had done so; for those who couldn't, they were powerless to help.
Boom!
The thirteenth floor of the building finally snapped under pressure, sending innumerable chunks of plaster and glass cascading down. The upper half of the building collapsed thunderously, crashing down with tremendous force onto the residential building on the other side!
But just then, a golden array pattern surged rapidly, spreading like a spider web across the entire building. The building that was about to fall was suddenly frozen in midair, the collapse forcibly halted in its tracks.
The fractured building was now at an eerie near-ninety-degree angle but did not fall.
"It actually stopped?" many exclaimed in surprise, eager to understand who possessed such strength to forcibly stop a building's collapse.
But no one saw that, atop the roof, a person was solemnly holding the entire building in place.
"So much effort for such a wide range of golden bricks," Xiang Beifei furrowed his brows.
Whenever he placed two bricks together previously, the array would unfurl on its own. In reality, every time he used it, it relied on the bricks themselves to complete the task, even eradicating Unrestrained relied on the power of the blood altar, he had hardly spent any Spiritual Power.
But this time, when he tried to stabilize a building, the two bricks seemed to lack strength and directly drew Spiritual Power from Xiang Beifei. This was the first time it had happened.
"Xiaohei, you hold it up first, I'm going inside to see if I can fix this building."
"Woof woof!" Xiaohei indicated no problem while pressing on the bricks.
Xiang Beifei took a swift step and disappeared into the void, reappearing in a room on the thirteenth floor.
In the room was a small boy, curled up in the corner in terror, his body covered with golden lines. Beside him, a middle-aged man held him tightly, his own foot severed by spatial rifts, blood still flowing, his body pinned by a slab of stone, his face contorted in pain, yet he held his child close.
Looking up, Xiang Beifei saw a Void Devouring Insect poking its head out of a crack in the wall. These insects could chew through space and destroy space-related items, but they couldn't get past the bricks.
"This thing is really eerie; a desolate beast at the Meridian Opening stage can actually tear apart the spatial constraints set by a God Refining stage."
Xiang Beifei tried his luck, hoping to see if he could restore the building using the power of "Return to the Original State," but after two attempts he gave up.
Because the amount of Spiritual Power required by Return to the Original State was really too high, and most of his Spiritual Power had already been drained away by a slab, if he were to repair such a large area, he might be squeezed dry and still fall short.
Even with the sustained energy from sunflower seeds, it would be too time-consuming.
"Forget it, let's rescue the people first."
Xiang Beifei first killed the Void Devouring Insects, then pulled the two people out, stopped the bleeding from the severed leg of the middle-aged man, then tossed the pair out of the window. The pattern still clung to their bodies, binding them in the air like a silk thread.
He swiftly traversed every corner of the building, rescuing those who were trapped, but for some who had already met their end, dismembered by the spatial cracks, he could only sigh silently and do his best to restore their bodies to their original state—as for their lives, Return to the Original State couldn't save them.
...
By the building's windows, countless people were intermittently flashing into view, still bound in mid-air by the golden patterns. Soon, the onlookers realized this strange phenomenon and found it incredible.
Some well-intentioned people wanted to lend a hand, but as soon as they touched the golden patterns, they themselves were instantly bound, unable to move.
"Don't touch it!"
Xiang Beifei's voice carried over.
Now everyone dared not attempt any rescue.
"What kind of ability is this? So impressive! But if we can't touch it, how can we rescue them?"
"The voice we just heard, why does it sound so familiar?"
"Could it be one of those high-level SSR and UR Awakeners from the Alliance?"
"Right, right, right, with such ability, they must be UR level, I guess!"
"They finally came. I thought the Alliance's UR Awakeners were too Lofty to care whether we live or die. They've actually lent a hand in time this time."
Many people believed that only those with high-level system powers could confine such a large building, and hence, only those UR level Awakeners could possibly help rescue the people.
The people below wanted to help but couldn't find a way to do so, though they all craned their necks, eager to see which UR level Awakener was so swift today.
However, what they didn't know was that the person inside the building wasn't a high-level Awakener from the Alliance at all.
Xiang Beifei had rolled all the people out of the building and solidified them in mid-air; once he was sure no one was left, he had to consider how to deal with the broken building.
"I have the ability to create a system space; I can temporarily store the severed building inside it."
At this point, Xu Yang also arrived, and he added, "However, the prerequisite is that there must be no Void Devouring Insects inside the building; otherwise, my system space will also be destroyed, and the building will fall out again."
"Go ahead, just do it."
Xiang Beifei had already killed all the Void Devouring Insects.
He immediately had Xiaohei retract the patterns.
Swish!
The people in the air began to fall immediately, but Xiang Beifei shouted in a low voice, "Erha!"
The Wooden Kirin reluctantly controlled the plants beneath it, growing rapidly, its vines wrapping around all the people like tentacles.
Meanwhile, a mirror appeared in Xu Yang's hands, a very powerful item, which was not merely S level. In Xiang Beifei's knowledge, this mirror was at least an SSR level system item. He hadn't expected Xu Yang to have such a thing.
But at the moment he didn't ask much because the mirror quickly enlarged, becoming like a lake's surface, spanning hundreds of meters. The broken building struck the mirror surface, rippling gently, yet it didn't hit the nearby buildings but instead sank into the void like it was sinking into a lake and disappeared.
And Xiang Beifei had already flashed into Xu Yang's system space, in order to ensure that there were no remaining Void Devouring Insects inside the fractured building, so he shattered the building with a palm in the needed mirror space, reducing the entire building to dust in an instant!
"Wrecking is easier than rescuing people, after all."
Xiang Beifei couldn't help but curl his lips, as at least the act of crushing the building with a palm didn't require too much concern.
