Chapter 242: Holding On

"I’m sure he’s just swamped," Timmy said, his tone trying to reassure her. "But don’t worry. We’ve got everything under control. Just stay safe."

Zinnia was about to say more, but before she could, Timmy’s voice came through again, softer this time. "I’ll keep you updated, okay? Don’t worry too much."

Before she could respond, the call ended, leaving her standing there with nothing but questions that still burned in her mind.

But as she stared at the phone, still feeling the weight of unanswered calls and a sense of helplessness creeping in, she suddenly heard a faint sound from outside her door. A knock.

She froze for a moment, wondering if it was another call she had missed. "No, it can’t be," she thought. But the knock came again, this time a little more insistent.

Her feet moved without thinking, walking toward the door as she wiped her damp palms on her jeans. "Who could it be?" she thought, already feeling a mix of surprise and confusion. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

She opened the door slowly, and standing there was Lily, her face full of concern but with an almost relieved smile.

"I know it’s last minute," Lily said, stepping forward slightly, her hands clasped in front of her, "but I thought you might need someone to talk to. May I come in?"

Zinnia didn’t know what to say. She was still trying to process everything—the news, Samuel’s disappearance, the strange reappearance of James. All of it was too much to handle on her own, and the sight of Lily standing there, offering some semblance of normalcy, made her feel like she could breathe again.

She stepped aside, letting Lily into the apartment. "Thank you for coming," she said quietly, her voice breaking the silence that had engulfed her the moment the door closed behind them.

Lily looked at her, a sympathetic understanding in her eyes. "I figured you’d need some company. You’ve had a lot on your plate lately. So, what’s been going on? You’re looking... like you could use a friend."

Zinnia nodded, wiping her eyes before offering a weak smile. "You don’t even know the half of it," she said, her voice low, and as the words left her lips, it felt like they carried the weight of everything she’d been bottling up.

Lily didn’t press her further; she just walked over to the couch and sat down, motioning for Zinnia to join her. "I’m not going anywhere," she said softly.

Zinnia hesitated but eventually sat down next to her. For a while, neither of them spoke. It felt like the quiet was something they both needed, though Zinnia’s mind was still filled with the chaos of everything happening in her life.

Finally, Lily spoke again, her tone gentle. "Zinnia, I don’t know what’s going on with you and Samuel right now, but... whatever it is, you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m here for you."

Zinnia felt a tear escape down her cheek at her friend’s words. It was such a simple thing to say, but hearing it made her feel just a little less lost.

She felt so overwhelmed, as though the weight of everything she had been trying to manage—her feelings for Samuel, her uncertainty about James, and now the sudden disappearance of Samuel—was about to crush her.

Lily noticed the way Zinnia’s shoulders slumped, how she looked like she had been carrying the world on her back. Without a word, she gently reached over, wrapping her arms around Zinnia in a warm, tight hug.

At first, Zinnia was frozen in place, unsure of how to react, but then the softness of Lily’s embrace seemed to ease the tension in her body, and she melted into it. The tears she had been holding back finally began to spill freely, her chest rising and falling with the weight of her emotions.

Lily’s heart ached as she held Zinnia, feeling the full brunt of her friend’s pain. She knew Zinnia had been through so much already, but the flood of emotions from the past few days—James’s reappearance, Samuel’s absence, the confusion about everything—had clearly become too much.

"I’m here for you, Zinnia," Lily whispered softly. "Whatever you’re going through, you don’t have to face it alone."

Zinnia clung to Lily, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts. She needed answers, needed to know where Samuel was, and why James had suddenly appeared again. There were too many questions, too many things left unsaid.

As they sat there, Lily’s mind was racing.

Earlier that day, she had received some shocking news—news that had set her heart racing in a completely different direction. The man Zinnia had seen, the one who looked exactly like James, was indeed James. It was him. After all these years, he was alive. But there was still so much Lily didn’t understand. James’s memory seemed to be fractured; it was clear he didn’t remember everything—especially not Zinnia, not right away.

Why had James disappeared for so long? What had happened to him? Why hadn’t he come back sooner? And what about Zinnia?

As her thoughts continued to churn, her phone buzzed with another update. This time, it was about Lucas Realty Group. Samuel’s name was mentioned. "What exactly is going on there?" Lily muttered under her breath, barely believing what she was hearing. The situation seemed to be more complex than anyone could have predicted. Did James have something to do with the mess unfolding at Lucas Realty Group?

But there was something far more urgent than the business drama: Zinnia. She was the one Lily was truly concerned about right now. No matter what was happening in the world around them, no matter how the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place, Zinnia needed her.

Zinnia, for her part, had pulled back slightly from the hug, wiping her eyes and trying to steady her breath, but Lily didn’t release her. Instead, she squeezed her tighter, as if to say, "I’m not going anywhere."

"I’ve got you," Lily said softly, pressing her cheek against Zinnia’s hair. "Don’t worry. I’ll be here for you, whatever happens."

Zinnia’s voice was shaky as she spoke. "But everything’s falling apart. I don’t know how to fix it, Lily."

"You don’t have to fix it alone," Lily replied gently. "We’ll figure it out together. I’m here, okay? We’ll get through this."
