Chapter 221: Strange Twists of Fate

Timmy’s question lingered in the air, his voice tinged with surprise as he met her gaze. "Do you?" he asked, his tone a blend of curiosity and caution.

Lily hesitated, her lips parting as though she was about to speak but stopping herself at the last second. She glanced away briefly, then back at him, a small smirk forming on her face.

Lily’s expression softened, a hint of understanding in her eyes. "I see. You’re involved in the wedding. I guess that makes sense, then." She glanced around the beach resort. "This is a gorgeous place. It’s going to be perfect for them."

Timmy nodded, feeling a little more at ease. "Yeah, I think so too. I’ve just finished finalizing everything. My boss is really excited about it."

Lily, still looking around, seemed to consider something for a moment before speaking again. "You know," she said, a mischievous glint in her eye, "I’m actually here for a wedding too. My best friend is getting married. I hadn’t realized we’d be in the same place."

Timmy blinked in surprise. "You’re here for a wedding too? Wow, what a coincidence! What are the odds?"

But it didn’t register with Timmy that she was actually referring to Zinnia and Samuel’s wedding. After all, she hadn’t answered his question about whether she knew them. So, he assumed she was talking about someone else who also wanted a beach wedding at this location—after all, it was a beautiful setting for a ceremony.

Lily laughed, shaking her head. "I know, right? But it’s a small world. I’m glad to see you here, though. Looks like you’re all set for the wedding?"

Timmy smiled, nodding. "Yeah, it’s all taken care of. I think we’re good to go." He hesitated for a moment, then added, "What about you? Are you planning to stay here for the whole wedding? I mean, I assume you’ve got a lot going on too."

Lily shrugged lightly. "I’m actually just here for a few days. It’s not a big wedding, so I’m just here to support my friend. But now that I know we’re both in town, maybe we should catch up while we’re here. It’s been too long."

Timmy, somewhat surprised by the suggestion, agreed with a smile. "Yeah, I’d like that. I wasn’t expecting this, but I’m definitely not complaining. It’ll be nice to catch up with you."

Lily grinned. "It’s a date then. I’ll make sure to find some time, between wedding stuff, to catch up. You’ll want to hear about my crazy adventures too."

Timmy chuckled, feeling more at ease now that the initial shock had worn off. "I’ll be looking forward to that. I’m sure you’ve got plenty of stories to tell."

With a final smile, Lily waved goodbye. "Catch you later, Timmy. I’ll make sure to find you when I’ve got a free moment."

As Timmy watched her walk away, he couldn’t help but marvel at the strange twists of fate. He hadn’t expected to see Lily here.

---

It was already evening by the time Zinnia and Samuel returned to the apartment. The once-vivid colors of the sky had given way to a calm, dark night, illuminated by streetlights and the occasional flicker of passing cars. Zinnia unlocked the door with a sigh of relief and held it open for Samuel to step inside.

"Finally," she muttered, kicking off her shoes by the entrance. "I thought my legs were going to give out before we got back."

Samuel chuckled lightly, setting down the bag of souvenirs they had picked up along the way. "You’re not alone. I can’t remember the last time I walked this much in a day. I feel like I’ve been training for a marathon."

Zinnia laughed, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten. "Well, consider it a warm-up. There’s still so much more to see." She shot him a teasing look before heading into the living room.

Samuel shook his head, smirking as he followed her. "Let’s just hope my legs survive tomorrow."

Zinnia gestured toward the small dining table. "Make yourself comfortable. I’ll get us something to drink."

Samuel watched as she disappeared into the kitchen, her movements familiar and efficient. It felt oddly domestic, being here with her like this. A moment later, she returned with two glasses of water, handing one to him before sinking onto the couch with a content sigh.

"It’s good to be back here," Zinnia said, glancing around the cozy apartment. "This place holds a lot of memories for me." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Samuel nodded, taking a sip of water. "I can see why. It feels... peaceful. Like it’s been lived in, but not overwhelming." He paused, his gaze drifting toward the hallway. "Which room did you set up for me?"

Zinnia straightened, pointing toward the hallway. "The one next to mine. Timmy’s room is just across the hall. I figured that arrangement made the most sense."

Samuel smiled, though there was a flicker of something unreadable in his expression. "Thanks. It’s perfect."

As they made their way down the hall, Zinnia stopped in front of Samuel’s door, turning to face him. "I hope it’s okay. It’s nothing fancy, but it should be comfortable enough."

Samuel pushed the door open, stepping inside. The room was simple but inviting, with a neatly made bed, a small desk, and a window overlooking the quiet street below. His suitcase had already been placed near the closet, a thoughtful touch from Zinnia.

"This is great," Samuel said, turning back to her with a grateful smile. "Thank you."

Zinnia leaned against the doorframe, crossing her arms loosely. "You’re welcome. If you need anything, just let me know."

For a moment, silence hung between them. Samuel’s eyes lingered on hers, as if he wanted to say something but wasn’t sure how. Finally, he cleared his throat and broke the silence. "I guess I’ll let you get some rest. It’s been a long day."

Zinnia nodded, her smile faint but genuine. "Goodnight, Sam."

"Goodnight," he replied softly, watching as she turned and walked to her own room.
