What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 803: We’re Betting On When She’s Taking Over The Kitchen
Well... Whatever happens, happens, I guess?
That’s why I decided to stop worrying about the fact that we beat up that guard and followed my girls to the mess hall again.
I did ask about what they did before they got here but Amber just smiled at me and told me not to ask and that was it.
I decided to take her advice and didn’t question it as we entered the still surprisingly packed mess hall.
Since it was already late afternoon, I would have thought that the place would be empty by now.
Then again... I guess in space, there’s not really an ’afternoon’ to begin with...
I guess people here work around the clock so there’s always a need for food to be available here.
"What do you think the food here is going to taste like?" I asked.
"I have a hundred Credits saying that you will be commandeering their kitchen tonight Mistress," Lea announced in a deadpan voice.
Really?
"Come on... It’s the Inner Colonies... Surely it can’t be that bad, right?" I pointed out.
"For the record, I also bet the same," Mara volunteered.
Great... So the former noble who has eaten Inner Colony noble food before also thinks so...
I gave them a pointed look, "Is there anyone who bet that I wouldn’t?"
Amber giggled, "Ehehehe~ We all bet that you will definitely take over the kitchen, Tera~ The only difference is when you would do it~ For the record, I bet that you would do it right after tasting lunch~"
I’m glad that I’m sooooo predictable to you girls I guess...
Putting that aside, we went over to the row of counters that allowed us to place our orders for food.
This place functioned like a cafeteria where there’s multiple different stalls that each offered a different kind of food.
Seems like we would still need to pay for our own food here but it’s discounted for staff at least... And it does seem like they were using organic ingredients for all the items on the menu without a single synthfood in sight.
After spending so much time in the Outer Colonies, this felt especially surreal.
Particularly when I see the prices of the organic food being sold here being comparable to the prices of synthfood sold in the Outer Colonies.
And the thing was that these were actually normal foods.
By that, I mean that they weren’t serving overly complicated organic food and marketing how luxurious it was. Instead, these were basically similar to the synthfood that are being sold in the Outer Colonies except these were all organic food instead.
Looking at the menu that was displayed on the board, I decided to just take one of the simpler options first.
Thus, I went for just a simple bowl of noodles which I’m pretty sure would be quite hard to screw up...
Incidentally, the cooking style for the stall I ordered my food from was similar to eastern cooking methods in my old universe. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The noodles came out to be relatively thick and springy. They were dropped inside a bowl of what smells like chicken broth and also topped with actual chicken.
It’s basically chicken noodles.
The rest also got their own food and proceeded to find a place where we could take a seat to enjoy the food.
At least... I hope we will actually be enjoying the food...
We got a place at one of the long tables and I sat down on the bench before taking a look at the bowl of noodles in front of me.
Picking up the chopsticks that they had given me, I tried to pick up several of the noodles, lifting it up above the bowl before I realised everyone was just staring at me, waiting for me to take the first bite.
Really? They’re already waiting to see what my reaction would be after tasting the noodles so they would know if the food they got was worth it or not.
Well... I guess here goes nothing...
First thing’s first... The noodles do feel springy at least so there shouldn’t be a problem with the texture.
I then gave the noodles a whiff and... Well... It sure does smell like chicken noodles at least ?
I then decided this was enough stalling and opened my mouth before bringing that bunch of noodles past my lips.
The girls watched as I slurped up the noodles, getting a good taste of the broth and chewed on the noodles.
Hmm...
The girls all stared at me in anticipation, even leaning out of their chairs to stare at me.
I let out a sigh, "It’s... Edible."
Amber leaned a little closer, "But?"
"But... Well... It’s definitely not delicious of course. Comparing it to Merina’s cooking... It’s definitely inferior."
I’m referring, of course, to the Teppan chef that we met at Talavee station who I’ve taught on how to use condiments... Which feels like something that should have been known even before I met her...
If I had to give them a grade... I would say that Merina’s cooking was a solid seven out of ten. Then this food that was in front of me would be a five at best.
It’s still palatable at the very least... Something like store bought convenience food that you might heat up in the microwave or, in this case, instant noodles that were made to be ’healthy’ by removing all the monosodium glutamate.
Yeah... There’s still the chicken taste in it but it was just barely there... Almost like I was tasting soup that has been diluted.
The girls seemed to accept my assessment and took a bite out of their food as well.
Their faces of expectation immediately turned into disappointment as they tasted the food in their mouths.
Ries sighed, "Unngghh... Even the fish tastes sad... How do they make fish taste so sad?!"
Yeah... Ries got herself some kind of seafood meal or something and the supposedly fish meat looked pretty dry even from here.
I say supposedly because the meat was blue in colour and I have no idea what kind of fish it could be... Probably one of those alien space fishes or something...
Amber poked at her food with a fork, "Ughh... It’s definitely edible but... It feels so sad..."
Well... She’s not wrong...
I put another mouthful of noodles into my mouth, slurping it up and chewing on it to taste it again.
Yeah... Eating this once is still ok as a form of sustenance but... I definitely wouldn’t be able to eat this everyday...
I placed my chopsticks down and let out a sigh, "Fine, fine... Let’s go and see their kitchen I guess..."
Almost immediately, Amber and Ries turned to the rest of the girls who begrudgingly took out their personal terminals to start transferring Credits to them.
Seems like only Ries and Amber had bet that I would do it during lunch time or something.
I picked up the tray that my bowl sat on and went over to the tray return area.
Since each of them were individual stalls, there wasn’t a centralised kitchen for me to take over so I was wondering how I would go about doing this.
I guess when in doubt...
I raised my arm to activate my Codex and initiated a call with Theresa.
The call rang twice before it was answered and Theresa appeared on the screen in front of me.
"Miss Tera! You don’t need to worry! We are dealing with it right now!!"
I blinked at her in surprise, "Dealing with it? What are you talking about?"
"Eh? Are you not talking about the--"
Amber appeared beside me, "Hello~ Don’t worry! We trust you on that! We’re calling about another issue!"
Theresa’s face paled, "Wait... There’s more of them?!"
"No, no~ This is another issue~ This time it’s related to food, you see~"
"Wha... What’s the problem with it?"
Amber turned to me, obviously handing the explanation part to me.
I cleared my throat, "I don’t mean to insult the people working so hard here to feed everyone in the station but... The food here isn’t up to our standards, I’m afraid..."
"O... Oh... Umm... How... How should we... Ermm... Fix that?"
"Well... You don’t need to fix anything, actually. I’m just asking if we could have a kitchen to use for ourselves so that we can make our own food instead?"
She blinked, "You... Can cook?"
"Yes."
"Umm... Forgive me but... Do you have a cooking license?"
I grimaced, "Regrettably, I do not."
"Ah... Umm... That might be a bit difficult for me... I can’t let you set up a stall here without one..."
"Oh, we’re not planning to sell food. We’re just making food for ourselves, that’s all. The food will only be consumed amongst us and won’t be sold to anyone else in the station. Would that be alright?"
She let out a sigh of relief, "Oh... In that case, I can see whether there’s somewhere vacant where you can use~ Just give me some time to find one! Oh! And if you’re interested, we can also sign you up for a class to get a cooking license too! Just let me know if you want it!"
Huh... That’s certainly convenient... Maybe I should do that?
