"Now onto the news of the day. Last night a huge fire broke out in the Saratonia estate which had burned the entire building down. Firefighters had arrived on the scene when the entire building was ablaze and from early reports, it seems like there were no survivors. Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire and--"

"Tera~ Could you pass me the salt?" Amber asked.

I tore my attention away from the news report being played from Mara's personal terminal to pick up the salt shaker to slide it over to Amber.

We're enjoying breakfast in the dining room with our guests at the moment.

"A fire huh?" Ragbar muttered from his side of the table, his plate of breakfast already licked clean. "Wonder what happened?"

Valiea looked up from her own personal terminal, her plate also licked clean, "For a fire of that scale to break out in one of the upper rings of the station… Might be an accident? I don't think anyone would be crazy enough to try and burn a place down with all the security up there."

"Mmm… That's right, that's right~" Amber chuckled off-handedly.

I frowned, "An accident that burned the entire estate down? How bad are the building safety standards here?"

Ragbar shrugged, "I don't know but… Maybe it's some feud with another family who went to burn down their house? Not that surprising since it's an open secret that those posh idiots up there are fighting with each other to get more influence and wealth for themselves."

"Right… So we don't need to worry about some crazy person coming to firebomb our ship while we're docked here, right?"

Unexpectedly, my girls all spoke up all at once.

"That won't happen, Tera!"

"There's no possibility of that happening, Mistress."

"That definitely won't happen to us, Boss!"

"Absolutely not, Captain."

The girls also seemed like they were not expecting the other girls to speak up as well and just looked at each other awkwardly.

I chuckled, "Ahaha~ I get it, I get it. You girls would be there to prevent it from happening."

The girls quickly nodded their heads in agreement.

I turned to the couple in front of me, "So what are your plans today?"

Valiea shrugged, "Same thing as always. We'll be going to work later so we'll most likely go back home to drop off our stuff before heading there. What about you?"

I looked at my girls, "I was thinking of getting another job from… You know who, assuming you girls are up for it?"

Ries immediately perked up, "Oh, oh!! Yes please! I managed to get the weapons systems for the power armour working and I want to give it a test to calibrate it!"

Ohhhh~ I definitely want to do that!

"Well, I guess we'll do that. Anyone want to join?" I asked.

This time, surprisingly, only Lea and Ries expressed interest in joining.

Apparently Mara found some Gene Splice clinics that she was interested in visiting and Amber was going with her to check it out as well.

I didn't know Amber had an interest in Gene Splicing as well but I think we should be fine with just Lea and Ries with me if I was going to use that power armour anyway so there was no problem.

I went ahead to send the handler a message saying we were accepting hustles again and not even a minute passed before a notification came indicating the arrival of a new message.

[New target. Leader of a smuggling ring. Suspected of smuggling body enhancing Gene Splices. Members have been known to use the Gene Splices. Multiple Merc groups have been contacted to deal with this ring. Assemble at Sector I-7S-2 on the Second Ring for briefing as soon as possible.]

I showed the other two the message I just received and they gave me a complicated look.

"If they are getting multiple groups to deal with this… This smuggling ring must be pretty big…" Lea pointed out.

Ries nodded, "Not only that, I think those Gene Splice mods might also play a part in their decision. Do we know which group they are?"

I read through the message again and frowned, "They didn't say…"

"Hmm… Either they didn't have a name to start with or they are intentionally not telling us the group's name for some reason…"

"Tch… So… I'm guessing this hustle might not be as straightforward as the others?" I asked.

The girls nodded.

I thought about it for a moment before turning back to Lea and Ries, "Perhaps… We should hide our face for this one? Just in case?"

Lea nodded, "Ries and I have our hooded cloaks. We could fashion something like a scarf to hide our lower faces with some cloth and I believe that should work."

"And Boss will be in your power armour anyway so that will be fine!" Ries added.

We're hiding our faces not just to avoid being seen by the smuggling ring in case they have any tricks up their sleeves, especially since this mission only calls for the elimination of the leader and not the entire group. We're also hiding our faces from the other Mercs that would be joining since there's no telling that they aren't the types to stab you behind the back either.

For all we know, they might come back and hunt us down to get our share of the reward after the job was done, especially since these jobs were offered under the table.

"In that case, we'll need to prepare, Boss! Come with me!" Ries requested, standing up from the table.

I nodded at our two guests, "I'll be making a move first I suppose. If you two need anything, just look for Amber or Mara, ok?"

Amber smiled at me while giving me a lazy wave, "Don't worry, Tera, we'll treat them like one of our own~"

That's an odd way of saying it but ok?

I got up from the table and followed Ries to the workshop with Lea following close behind me.

Ries brought me to the rack that was holding the power armour and it seems like she did some changes the last time I was here.

For one, she seemed to have made another rack meant to store the weapons right behind the power armour and there was a crane looking thing that I assume was for her to mount said weapons on the power armour.

I'm wondering why it wasn't possible for me to just slip into it and take the weapons out to mount it myself?

Ries grinned at her handiwork and gestured towards it, "Alright Boss! Suit up and we'll get you equipped!"

I did as she asked and climbed inside the power armour, my view coming alive as the armour powered up.

In front of me was my Maochatte grinning up at the visor, "Is everything good Boss?"

"Seems fine. What's next?"

"Next we have to figure out what kind of weapon you would be bringing! Right now you should be able to bring two arm mounted weapons and one shoulder mounted weapons! I believe a list of the compatible weapons should be at the bottom corner of your screen right now!"

I looked down and sure enough, there was an icon showing the power armour as well as boxes that showed the weapons available and where they were supposed to be mounted.

"Well… What do you recommend I take?"

Lea spoke up, "I believe we might be facing a heavily armed and fortified group for this… So we might need to coordinate our equipment with each other."

Ries nodded in agreement, "I plan to be taking a ballistic rifle and two of my drones as support. There's some other things I'm trying to make right now and this would be perfect as a field test!"

Ah, so she's going to be like those summoner classes in RPGs where she fights using her minions. That's cool.

"In that case, I suppose I should go for something that is good for close combat and also with some big firepower…" I mused, looking at the list.

Ries perked up, "Oh yes! You already have in built Wave Blades, Boss! They're in your gauntlets! Try to activate them!"

"Activate Wave Blades," I ordered while lifting up my arms.

Two pale blue energy blades materialised around my gauntlets, the energy seemingly wrapping around my gauntlets to join together in the shape of a sword.

This is so cool!

"Heh heh… It can even cut through other power armour, Boss! So you can just slice anything you want without a care! That thing can slice through them!"

Yep, this is really, really cool.

Ok, so I have these two blades for close combat purposes and I still have three more slots that I can equip myself with…

Going by our team composition and the potential makeup of our enemies… I went ahead to pick out the weapons that I thought were best and Ries quickly helped me attach it to the suit.

I got it! Alright! Let's use these then!
