Chapter 75: Commander Class And Healing

We decided to stay with them for the three days we would be here since those Anomalies might come back any time.

To begin with, it was weird that they retreated from the fight.

Anomalies aren’t known to have self preservation instincts so they would usually throw themselves into the fight to die even if it was clear that they were completely outmatched.

The only time where they would actually run away from a fight is...

"I believe there might be a Commander Class Anomaly..." I blurted out as we were gathered for dinner that night.

Olivia nodded, "The fact they chose to run away was already a clear indicator of that."

A Commander Class Anomaly... These are Anomalies that, unlike the other Anomalies that are commonly seen around, are Anomalies that have some semblance of intelligence.

These are rather dangerous as they are able to command and control a group of Anomalies around them at a time and they possess some semblance of intelligence that allows them to think for themselves.

They are able to plot and plan but they are weaker than the other Anomalies that they surround themselves with.

What this means is that Anomalies might even lead you to an ambush if you weren’t aware of the fact that there was a Commander Class amongst them and charged in blindly.

Then again, the fact that you didn’t prepare yourself and charged into a fight with Anomalies, you deserve everything that happens to you because of that.

Maylene, who was attached to us as our permanent guide, looked up from where she was seated, "What is a Commander Class Anomaly?"

Olivia went ahead to explain to her what they were and Maylene’s eyes widened.

"There’s monsters like that?"

I nodded, "In the rifts that have higher Danger Classes. Your world was classified at a level four."

"Erm... Level four? That doesn’t sound very high?"

"The highest Danger Class that we have ever found is a level seven."

"Oh... That’s really bad isn’t it?"

I grimaced, "Kind of... This level would be dangerous even for veteran Vanguards."

Kris chuckled, "Ahaha... Like what almost happened to me."

He then winced, clearly still not fully recovered.

That reminds me...

I stood up from the table and gestured at him, "Kris. Let me try to deal with that."

Kris turned to me, "Eh? You can heal as well?"

I shrugged, "I don’t know, that’s what I’m going to find out. You’re going to be my test subject."

"Oh... Er... Ok?"

He stood up as well and winced a little before following after me under the gazes of everyone else which we ignored.

We entered the room that we were given for the night which basically placed all of us in a single, communal room that we would have to share with the girls.

Unfortunately, they never expected to have visitors so the bunny girls don’t exactly have spare rooms just laying around the place.

It wasn’t really a big deal since we actually brought camping equipment which we had wanted to use to camp near the machines. But Sagia thought making us camp outside instead of sleeping in a room was too rude of a thing to do.

We still had to move the beds out anyway since... Well... There’s a distinct size difference between us and the bunny girls.

The only person who could actually fit in the bed was Kris and that was if he let his feet hang off the edge.

We entered the room where the Guardians had already set up our tents and I gestured towards the floor in the middle of the room.

"Sit there. I’ll try something here," I instructed.

He gave me a worried look, "I’m not going to explode, am I?"

"I hope not. What I’m going to do here is based upon the limited knowledge I have about cultivation."

"And... Out of curiosity... What is it?"

Despite his uncertainty, Kris still took a seat on the floor as I instructed and I moved to sit down behind him as well.

I rolled up my sleeves, "Remember I told you guys about Qi the other day? Where it’s basically life energy that is present in all living things around us?"

He understood my intentions immediately, "Are you going to pump me full of life energy to heal me?"

"That’s the idea. The life energy should accelerate your natural regeneration so you would be able to heal yourself."

"Hmm... What’s the possibility that I end up being filled with so much life energy that I end up exploding?"

I raised an eyebrow at him, "What’s with you and explosions?"

"I dunno. I watched a few animes and there’s scenes where they fill the villains with more energy than they can handle so that they explode."

I’m surprised he actually watches animes...

I cleared my throat, "Ahem... I’ll try my best not to make you explode then."

"Mmm... Alright then~" He chuckled before straightening his back.

For him to trust me that much, I suppose I should meet his expectations too.

I focused my senses and settled into my usual meditation state.

Honestly, I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’m just going off what I’ve seen in stories and animes as well.

Relaxing my body, I did the natural motion of circling my hands around before thrusting them out to smack my palms against Kris’s back.

Of course, I made sure not to use my full strength or else I would have launched him flying from that smack.

Still, that sudden smack surprised him as he jerked away to move out of my reach for a moment before he relaxed and leaned back into my palms again.

I tried to focus my senses towards the back that I was touching and tried to sense the life energy that should be inside Kris.

For a moment, nothing happened and all I saw was the inky blackness that surrounded me.

Then, very slowly, the area in front of me started to glow and it formed into the shape of a person which outlined Kris to me.

Wow... That actually worked.

I directed my senses to hyper focus on the lights and tried to inspect it first, checking to see if there was anything that looked out of place to me.

Sure enough, at the places where his chest and his arms were, the life energy there looked duller and less ’energetic’ than the others around it.

Even as I watched, I could see that the light balls that were surrounding the duller balls seemed to be trying to transfer their light over to them as if to reinvigorate them.

I guess what I was looking at was the body’s natural healing process at work.

So let me try doing this...

I focused on my own life energy and first directed a small ball out from within me to push it into Kris’s back through my palm. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

I didn’t want to use too much in case what Kris was worried about actually turned out to be real so I’m just using as little as possible as a test first.

The ball of light entered his back easily enough and I broke it apart into smaller balls of light which I then directed to the affected regions to fill them up with light again.

When a tiny bit of the light reached the dull areas, all of them suddenly lit up with blinding white light, as if a light switch had been flipped on.

I heard a loud groan coming from Kris and it sounded like the painful kind so this was definitely not comfortable for him at all.

I suppressed my desire to open my eyes as I concentrated on maintaining the connection. If I lose my concentration now, I was afraid the healing might go sideways and cause his injury to worsen instead.

"It’s... It’s hot!!" He cried.

Shit... Ok, ok...

I pulled back some of the energy and the light dimmed a little until it was no longer blinding.

Slowly, I pulled back more and more until Kris stopped groaning and I used that as the reference to push that amount into the affected areas.

He still squirmed around but he was no longer groaning in pain so I assumed this was good.

Eventually, the affected areas were glowing with the same intensity as the light around it and I realised that the small amount of life energy I had pushed inside of him wasn’t even used up.

I then drew it back so that I could absorb it back into my core and once that was settled, I relaxed and lifted my palms from behind his back.

"How... Is it?" I asked, opening my eyes.

Kris clenched his fists and tried to do a few stretches before turning around to look at me with wide eyes, "Wow!! That actually worked! I mean... It felt like I was being burned alive at first but after that it got cooler until it was just a comfortable warmth so it was great!"

I was about to apologise for the burning part when I noticed that he was pitching a tent in his pants and I looked away.

He saw my gaze and looked down before he let out a cry, "Waaaaa!! Wait, wait!! This is just... This is just a normal reaction!! I... I don’t know why I’m like this!"

Don’t worry, I’m guessing this is what happens when someone’s body is filled with an abundance of life energy.

Well... At least now I know I can heal people too.
