Welcome to Ability Store-Chapter 81 - 80: Receiving the Goods!
After the camp was set up, Chen Xuan took advantage of a moment when no one was paying attention and teleported himself back to the store.
Unexpectedly, there was a new charming presence in the store.
Liu Shuyue was sitting on the sofa chatting leisurely with Lin Qing. The two had entirely different styles of clothing—a simple white dress and silky black hair versus casual attire with colored hair—but both were exceptionally attractive, making the scene a feast for the eyes.
"You’re back." Liu Shuyue greeted him proactively, "Would you like tea or... cof..."
"Coffee," Lin Qing prompted.
Chen Xuan couldn’t help but feel disoriented, "Anything is fine. Did anything happen over there?"
"No, everything is quite normal." Liu Shuyue suddenly frowned and said in a playful reproachful tone, "Can’t I come over if nothing’s wrong?"
"Exactly!" Lin Qing unexpectedly chimed in.
"I didn’t say you couldn’t, just asking casually," Chen Xuan glared fiercely at Lin Qing.
The latter averted his gaze and started humming a tune.
"Get away... Another way..."
"I guess I’m considered a staff member now," Liu Shuyue said generously, "So I need to spend more time here to live up to the role of a staff member."
"Is leaving Jiufeng City and Hot Pepper Village unattended fine?"
"Yes, the Liu Family is currently overseeing the city’s citizens, and agriculture and commerce are slowly recovering. There are plenty of capable people in the Liu Family, and they’re managing quite well even without the Government Office; I just need to guide them on the general direction. It’s the same with Hot Pepper Village; if they encounter a troublesome Demon Fiend, they’ll notify me."
Hearing Liu Shuyue say this, Chen Xuan had no objections.
She paused and asked, "What should a staff member usually do? I just asked Miss Lin how to use those Dharma Artifacts to heat water for tea, and it’s quite fun."
"Mainly, it’s organizing the shelves and warehouse, cleaning up, and checking out customers," Chen Xuan thought for a moment, "However, compared to these, the first thing you need to learn is how to blend into the world and disguise yourself as an ordinary worker. The store’s enemies are not only strong but also cunning; if they find out our true identities, the consequences will be unimaginable."
Liu Shuyue nodded seriously, "Yes, I will learn from Miss Lin."
"No worries, I’ve sorted it out for you. You’re a college student, from a financially struggling family, with a debt-ridden dad and divorced mom, so you work and study part-time," Lin Qing seemed quite experienced in fabricating identities, "By the way, Mr. Manager, could you customize some uniforms for us, just like Robson’s across the street, so when customers see us, they know we’re working here."
Chen Xuan couldn’t help but imagine the two in uniforms.
"Sure, no problem," he agreed promptly.
The morning is the quietest time in the store; most neighborhood residents have gone to work, and the elderly are focused on the vegetable market, so there are typically no customers. Chen Xuan turned and went to Hot Pepper Village to collect some materials from the herb library to start refining pills.
While practicing alchemy, he also sent a business letter to Walter’s arms company.
In less than half an hour, Walter himself called.
"Hello, Mr. Chen, I saw your email. Would you like to purchase a four-seater helicopter in your name?"
"Yes, it would be best if it can be registered under your company name."
Chen Xuan had checked; buying a helicopter domestically is quite a complicated thing—paying money is not enough. Unlike buying a car, where you can buy first then get a license, for a helicopter you must first have a pilot’s license before submitting a purchase application to Jiang City’s civil aviation regulatory authority. Completing the entire process could take at least six months.
"No problem," Walter agreed readily, "But you requested to complete it within two to three days. For a brand-new model, ordering and shipping could take one to two weeks; would you mind a secondhand one?"
"No problem, as long as it can fly."
"Then I can pick a suitable one from the hangar and send it to you."
"Getting it immediately would be great, but I think we should have a clear account; it’s helpful for maintaining a healthy business relationship," Chen Xuan declined.
Taking advantage of others makes it hard to refuse them in the future when they make requests. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
He also wasn’t planning to use his abilities as payment.
A helicopter is a minor item to a businessman of Walter’s level; if snacks are paid with abilities, the value of abilities will be undermined.
After all, rarity determines value.
The first deal is to open channels, and he could pay a bit more.
"I understand, if that’s what you require," the other side didn’t probe further, "Where would you like the goods delivered? Do you need a pilot?"
"The delivery point is the usual place, no need for a pilot."
"Okay, I will send the expense details to your email. Wish you and the Dimensional Limit Mechanism all the best." He didn’t forget to commend at the end.
This is Chen Xuan’s plan for fast travel.
Directly flying over by helicopter!
The location was carefully selected; there’s a perfect flat ground there, ideal for helicopter takeoff. A hundred meters away, there are abandoned small buildings left by the British Army when they occupied Paris, which can be used as the store’s access point.
Even with a helicopter, it’s still an extremely long journey. He estimated the distance between the two places, roughly 9,000 kilometers, and a regular commercial flight would take about ten hours. A helicopter’s cruising speed is far less than a commercial aircraft, so the time would be tripled or quadrupled.
However, it’s still much faster than a carriage.
That’s why he also studied the helicopter types; some single-seaters or two-seaters are cheaper than he imagined, costing around three to four hundred thousand, but their speed and endurance are quite poor, flying at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour and needing to refuel after 300 kilometers, similar to a car.
A four-seater hits the middle ground, with a speed around 200 kilometers per hour and a range over 600 kilometers, with prices raised to the two-million range, which is still affordable.
Additionally, a four-seater has the advantage of bringing two more members of the envoy team, letting them witness firsthand that he truly overcame numerous obstacles to reach the East, and not some Divine Envoy’s trick.
Just one day later, Walter sent a reply saying the delivery had been completed. The bill amounted to 1.44 million yuan, with some fuel gifted.
Even for secondhand, this price is indeed quite cheap.
It appears he’s twisting his mind to offer benefits.
Chen Xuan immediately called Lin Qing to teleport to the branch, and looking out the window, he saw a helicopter parked in the park’s space, attracting tourists’ attention.
To prevent parts on the helicopter from being pilfered, Walter specially arranged a few guards to oversee it.
"Can you fly this helicopter?" Chen Xuan asked.
"Tyr 207 model, got operational data, simple," Lin Qing recognized and replied.
"Alright, I’ll arrange for receipt of the goods."
...
Like last time, Walter stood on the hotel’s rooftop gazing at that decrepit building, not for any particular reason, just curious to see what new tricks the mechanism might conjure up.
The familiar "movers" appeared again, still wearing their cloth attire, filing out from the main entrance. Though an hour ago, the building was completely empty.
But this time they didn’t head straight for the helicopter; instead, they wandered around the house. Two of them even used wooden sticks and ropes, seemingly measuring dimensions.
Soon, these individuals transported pre-cut timber from inside to start modifying the house. They tore down half of the garage wall and expanded its size, even replacing the roller shutter with a pair of six to seven meters wide swing wooden doors.
"Such skillful craftsmanship!" George praised beside him, "These carpenters must be old family artisans, able to easily construct a house without any power tools."
Walter agreed with this view, yet he felt something was amiss— the mechanism’s specialty should be high-tech development, while these people were quite the opposite. They adhered to ancient methods, even sawing a piece of wood by hand rather than using electric tools. Such craftsmen are increasingly rare in modern times, but what purpose do they serve for the mechanism?
Within an hour or so, the garage was transformed. The new shed was even larger than the living quarters, resembling an extra bulge and looking rather awkward. But it could fit an entire helicopter inside now.
Ten burly men dropped their tools and rushed to the helicopter; the guards were intimidated by the momentum, stepping back uncertain whether to intervene.
"They’re here to receive the goods, no need to interfere." George quickly conveyed the boss’s meaning.
Then, they witnessed a stunning display of human strength— those ten individuals crouched beside the helicopter, each grabbing a leverage point, and with a low growl, they lifted the helicopter onto their shoulders!
Walter suddenly felt reverence!
No artisans, this gang were all muscular men disguised as carpenters. Once armed, they’d be the Dimensional Limit Mechanism’s most reliable warriors!
After moving it inside, the house door slowly closed, and all seemed to return to calm.
Shortly after, the guards reported back; both the warehouse and the house were again completely empty.
Walter headed home satisfied.
