Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 144: Remarriage
Jett Sterling stroked her beautiful face. "Vivian, do you want to leave Aethelgard?"
"Why the sudden question?" Vivian asked curiously.
"I just want to know."
Vivian Quinn shook her head. "No. My master disappeared in Aethelgard. It all started here, so I have to stay and search for him. No matter what I have to endure, I won’t leave."
"I understand," Jett Sterling explained. "I’m not trying to force you to leave Aethelgard. The decision is yours. Wherever you are, that’s where our home is. But if we’re going to stay in Aethelgard, Mason Landon has to go."
"So you’re going to make Mason Landon leave Aethelgard? He’ll never agree to that."
"I have my ways."
"Alright, then."
...
Mason Landon’s assistant took the fall and was quickly sentenced.
Mason Landon called Vivian Quinn several times, but she never answered.
One day, Mason Landon cornered her at the hospital entrance. "Vivian, I want to talk to you."
"I have nothing to say to you." Vivian Quinn gestured to the bodyguards at her side. "You’d better move on your own. If they have to get involved, it won’t be pretty."
"Do you have any idea what Jett Sterling is doing to me?" Mason Landon sneered. "He’s showing no mercy, trying to drive me out of Aethelgard for good."
"’Showing no mercy?’" Vivian Quinn scoffed as if she’d just heard the world’s funniest joke. "Mason Landon, how dare you say we’re being merciless? You’re the one who’s a cold-blooded killer! Did you really think this was over just because you found a scapegoat to take the blame? I’ve always believed in karma, and sooner or later, you’ll get what’s coming to you."
"I’m not afraid of any of that!" Mason Landon said coldly. "Vivian, I’m not leaving."
"Whether you leave or not has nothing to do with me. Just know that I’ll never let you near me again." Without wasting another breath on him, Vivian Quinn glanced at her bodyguards.
A bodyguard immediately stepped forward and pushed Mason Landon aside. "Pardon us. Please make way."
Vivian Quinn got into a car parked nearby and left without looking back.
...
A week later, Vivian Quinn heard from Easton Rivers that Mason Landon had left Aethelgard.
Apparently, Jett Sterling had gone after Mason’s entire family, turning all of his relatives against him. Backed into a corner with nowhere else to turn, he was forced to leave.
Vivian Quinn breathed a sigh of relief. As for Mason Landon, she was perfectly happy with "out of sight, out of mind."
In the blink of an eye, it was Chinese New Year.
Joy Chase was still recuperating in the hospital, so she couldn’t come to Sycamore Bay for the holiday. However, Vivian Quinn cooked a lot of delicious food and went to have an early New Year’s Eve dinner with her.
"Vivian, thank you for celebrating with me. You should get back to Master Sterling. I’ll be fine on my own."
Vivian Quinn finished clearing the table. "I’ll head back now, then. You get some rest, and call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
It was already dark by the time Vivian Quinn returned to Sycamore Bay.
As soon as she entered the house, she saw Wendy Reeves sitting on the living room sofa.
Vivian Quinn hesitated for a moment before walking over to greet her. "Mrs. Sterling, Happy New Year."
"Mm," Wendy Reeves replied, cool and proud. She took a thick red envelope from the bag beside her. "Here, take this. Happy New Year."
Vivian Quinn didn’t take it.
"Young Madam, it’s a tradition in Aethelgard for elders to give red envelopes to the younger generation during the New Year. Please, accept it," Nanny Jenner explained from the side.
Only then did Vivian Quinn accept it. "Thank you, Mrs. Sterling."
"New Year’s Eve dinner is ready. I’ll go ask the young master to come down and eat."
The three of them soon sat down in the dining room. Jett Sterling placed some food on Vivian Quinn’s plate. "Still have room for more?"
"Of course," Vivian Quinn said with a radiant smile. "I only had a few bites with Joy at the hospital. I was saving my appetite for when I got back here."
Jett Sterling smiled as well. "Then eat up."
"Okay. You too."
Watching them from the side, Wendy Reeves felt a sour pang in her heart.
’My son is usually so aloof,’ Wendy thought, ’he’s never smiled at me like that. But look at him now! Not only is he waiting on Vivian Quinn, but he’s also smiling at her so happily. It’s such obvious favoritism!’
Suddenly, the food in Wendy Reeves’s bowl seemed to lose all its flavor. She said sullenly, "Jett, since you two are so close, it’s about time you gave your mother a grandchild. I’m not picky; I’d be happy with a grandson or a granddaughter."
The smile on Jett Sterling’s face faded. He glanced at her and said, "It seems you really are fond of children."
"Of course I am."
"Then you can consider having one yourself," Jett Sterling said after a sip of red wine. "My father’s been gone for many years. You’ve been living a lonely life, and you like children so much, so you could absolutely remarry. I wouldn’t mind. I could even help you raise the child."
"PFFT..." Vivian Quinn sprayed a mouthful of her drink, nearly choking. "COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
Jett Sterling quickly patted her on the back. "How could you be so careless?"
"I’m fine," Vivian Quinn said, finally catching her breath. "You just have to say the most shocking things, don’t you?"
"I’m being serious," the man said with a look of utter sincerity.
Vivian Quinn had to suppress a laugh.
Wendy Reeves looked like she was about to choke. "Jett, what on earth are you talking about? I’m too old to get married again and have another child! I was telling you to have one!"
Jett Sterling turned to look at her. "My condition is inherited from the Sterling family. It’s not from your side. A child you had with another man wouldn’t have this problem. You would have a much easier and happier life."
Wendy Reeves was left speechless, but her expression slowly darkened.
She put down her chopsticks, tears welling in her eyes. "You think I don’t know that I could have a healthy child with someone else? People have been urging me to remarry ever since your father passed away, but I refused. You were already suffering so much because of your hereditary condition; it was pitiful. I couldn’t stand by and let the only maternal love you had be divided!"
With that, Wendy Reeves abruptly stood up and left the room.
Vivian Quinn quickly stood up to follow her. "Mrs. Sterling..."
Jett Sterling stopped her. "Sit down and eat."
"But your mother..."
"Don’t worry about it." Jett Sterling continued placing food on her plate. "Vivian, this is our first New Year together. Promise me you’ll finish this dinner with me."
Vivian felt her nose tingle. She smiled and nodded. "Okay. Let’s have a good New Year’s."
...
After New Year’s Eve dinner, Jett Sterling went to his study for a video conference. Vivian Quinn went into the kitchen, cooked a bowl of noodles herself, and brought it to Wendy Reeves’s room.
After she knocked, Wendy Reeves’s voice came from inside. "Come in."
Vivian Quinn opened the door and went inside. "Mrs. Sterling, I made you a bowl of noodles. Please have some."
Wendy Reeves didn’t really want to eat, but she couldn’t resist the rich aroma. She got up to try a bite and discovered it was surprisingly delicious!
"I’m surprised you know how to cook. Girls your age rarely spend time in the kitchen."
Vivian Quinn smiled. "I grew up in the countryside, so of course I know how to cook. Take your time. I’ll leave you to it."
"What’s the rush?" Wendy Reeves beckoned. "Sit down. Let’s talk."
