Wealthy Beauty in the 60s-Chapter 223 - 222 Sisterly Affection
Chapter 223: Chapter 222 Sisterly Affection
Xia Xiao had no idea how lucky she was to have narrowly escaped disaster, and now Sun Yuqi was very wary of Yang He. After being scolded by Yang He, Sun Yuqi dared not bring it up again.
Xia Xiao had stayed in the city for a few days and had also visited her grandmother’s house for the New Year on the second day of the year. However, she could not fully relax thinking about Old Man Xia and Mrs. Xia, so Xia Weiguo and Li Wenjuan only stayed half a day before returning home with the children.
Wang Jinying was currently recuperating from her injuries, Xia Baoguo was busy at the newspaper office, Xia Jianguo and Zhang Yun lived in the dormitories provided by the factory. Old Man Xia and Mrs. Xia had been through a lot recently and, on top of that, their age had caught up with them, with their body and energy not as good as it used to be.
Everyone was concerned about the condition of the elderly couple. Xia Xiao had originally intended to leave on the third day, but now it did not seem right to bring it up.
Meanwhile, Zhao Xiaolan was buried quickly. Xia Fei went with Azati but did not encounter Zhao Yan. However, when Xia Fei and Azati returned to the hospital, they ran into Zhao Yan.
The hospital reported that Zhao Yan had not been taking good care of her health these past few days, which would make future pregnancies difficult. The news was a bolt from the blue for Zhao Yan, and Liang Wei’s face darkened on the spot.
While nothing was wrong with Xia Fei and Azati, Liang Wei promptly left Zhao Yan behind and walked away, leaving her feelings to the imagination.
"Xiao Yan, why haven’t you been taking care of yourself these past few days?" Xia Fei couldn’t help but scold Zhao Yan. She had just had a miscarriage and was injured, and yet she did not stay in the hospital to recover properly and did not take care of herself when she returned home.
"What’s it to you, who are you to me?" Zhao Yan retorted with a resentful glare at Xia Fei.
Seeing Zhao Yan like this, Xia Fei felt that some words were better left unsaid. Sisterhood had reached such a state that the bond was no longer the same. Still, Zhao Yan was her blood. With Zhao Xiang executed and Zhao Xiaolan gone, Xia Fei felt terrible. Now only Zhao Yan was left as her sister, and despite not liking her much, Xia Fei still hoped for Zhao Yan’s well-being.
"I won’t say much more. Your body, your choice. If you don’t cherish yourself, who else will? Look after yourself." The way Liang Wei had just left Zhao Yan alone in the hospital troubled Xia Fei. A woman without a child might find it hard to hold onto a man’s love, and Xia Fei couldn’t help but worry for Zhao Yan.
Zhao Daguo and Guan Mingli had been able to maintain their marriage for so many years because both had health issues. Otherwise, how could the Zhao family have tolerated Guan Mingli’s infertility for so long? After all, Guan Mingli had eloped with Zhao Daguo. If their own son hadn’t had his own issues, Mrs. Zhao would never have accepted Guan Mingli.
Zhao Yan’s eyes reddened. Liang Wei’s recent departure had hurt her, and the thought that she might never have children made her break down in tears. "Does anyone care about me? How would I know how to take care of myself after a miscarriage? I married into a family where everyone was busy over the New Year; I couldn’t just stand around doing nothing."
"You still shouldn’t be touching cold water," Xia Fei said. "And you didn’t take a cold shower or wash your hair with cold water, did you?"
Zhao Yan didn’t respond, but her tears flowed more fiercely. "My child is gone, his family doesn’t care for me; I’m lucky to even have cold water."
Zhao Yan was in a lot of pain. Without her child, the Liangs blamed her, and so did Liang Wei. She felt like a criminal in the Liang family. Now, with her body in this condition and if she remains childless in the future, Zhao Yan didn’t know how she could continue living with the Liangs.
Xia Fei felt very distressed, but she couldn’t interfere with Zhao Yan’s marital issues. Moreover, the way Liang Wei acted was frightening and made even Xia Fei’s heart tremble. She didn’t understand how Zhao Yan could have chosen Liang Wei.
"The doctor didn’t say you can’t have children in the future, just that you need to take good care of your body. If you don’t pay attention to your health, it’ll be hard to get pregnant later on," Xia Fei added.
"I don’t need you to bother with me, and you have no right to," Zhao Yan suddenly wiped away her tears and yelled at Xia Fei before she walked away.
In Zhao Yan’s heart, there was a certain imbalance. Xia Fei used to be the child they least valued among her siblings, and Zhao Yan always felt superior in front of Xia Fei. But now, Xia Fei seemed to be doing better than her, and she might not be able to have children in the future. The gap was too big for Zhao Yan, and she was unwilling to lower her head in front of Xia Fei.
Watching Zhao Yan leave, Xia Fei sighed and said to Azati, "Let’s head back."
Azati nodded and followed Xia Fei out of the hospital.
Xia Xiao was glad to hear that Xia Fei and Azati were both fine. Having no issues now meant that they could have children sooner or later, but Xia Xiao still added spring water to the family’s meals and soups. During the days she was home, she tried to use the spring water to improve her family’s health.
Liang Wei was indeed capable, as Xia Xiao learnt from Xia Fei that The Zhao family was no longer around. She didn’t know where Liang Wei had taken them but guessed it might be some remote place for labor.
Xia Xiao was also concerned about Liang Wei and Zhao Yan, but there wasn’t much she could do now. Besides, she might have to return next year. If there were any issues with Liang Wei and Zhao Yan then, she would deal with it at that time.
For now, as long as Yang He could control Liang Wei, Liang Wei and Zhao Yan wouldn’t act against The Xia Family. Xia Xiao felt that was good enough.
Furthermore, Xia Xiao found out about Zhao Yan’s situation from Xia Fei’s words. Now Zhao Yan was so preoccupied with her own issues that, having seen what happened to Guan Mingli, she would never allow herself to end up like her. And since The Liangs were not like The Zhao family, Zhao Yan’s life would not be as good as Guan Mingli’s. So, until Zhao Yan could recover and give Liang Wei a son, she wouldn’t be able to focus on anything else.
On the fourth day of the new year, Xia Xiao prepared to leave. Xia Fei and Azati were also leaving that day, and because they were all heading to the train station together, Xia Xiao turned down Xia Chunrong’s offer to take her.
"Brother, you don’t need to see me off," she said. "Go and spend time with Sister Manni. I hope that by the next time I come back, I’ll be able to meet my little nephew."
Xia Xiao waved goodbye to her family and Xia Chunrong, and then she left with Xia Fei and Azati. Xia Fei and Azati went north, while Xia Xiao headed south.
"Sister Xiao Fei, this is the fruit tea I brewed. You and your husband can drink it on the road." Xia Xiao handed a flask of her tea to Xia Fei. She had brewed it with fruits grown in her space and had added spring water, hoping it would help improve Xia Fei’s health.
"Xiaoxiao, I’ll accept it then, and your kindness too," Xia Fei replied. "We sisters should keep in touch, and write to each other often. When I get back, I’ll definitely write to you." After going through so much, Xia Fei now cherished the bond between sisters and liked Xia Xiao very much. She hoped they would keep in touch; otherwise, even the best of relationships could become estranged if neglected for too long.
"Take care," Xia Xiao said as she waved them off. She didn’t reschedule her ticket this time and left via her space.
She hadn’t planned to meet Gao Jiaxing, she just wanted to see him, to know what he was doing now, and to see how he was getting on.
