Chapter 213: Chapter 212: Cousin Xia Fei (Monthly Ticket 1045+)

"Brother, how can we neutralize the threat of Zhao Xiang and Zhao Yan?" Xia Xiao asked Shitou.

As long as Zhao Xiang and Zhao Yan were no longer a threat, Liang Wei wouldn’t be a problem. Without Zhao Xiang and Zhao Yan, Liang Wei wouldn’t have even noticed the Xia Family.

However, now that Liang Wei had taken notice of the Xia Family, Xia Xiao was worried that if Liang Wei acted recklessly, things would become troublesome.

"Catch the king first to capture all his men. Perhaps we can plant a suggestion in Liang Wei’s mind while he sleeps at night."

As soon as Shitou finished speaking, Xia Xiao said, "That would be less effective than planting suggestions for Yang He not to mess with the Xia Family. If Liang Wei gets influenced, he might just make Zhao Xiang and Zhao Yan recognize their ancestors and return to the Xia Family, and I certainly do not want that."

Xia Xiao hoped that Zhao Xiang and Zhao Yan would remain as part of the Zhao family forever and never return to the Xia Family. Moreover, it was clear that Yang He had more than just Liang Wei under him; she couldn’t afford to only focus on Liang Wei and neglect the others.

"That works too."

Shitou agreed, and Xia Xiao was not in a hurry; she needed to find the right opportunity.

On her way, Xia Xiao also stopped by the Zhao family’s place to see what their current situation was and to check if they were conspiring against the Xia Family.

But upon arriving at the Zhao family’s residence, she saw only the dull Zhao family members who seemed to have resigned themselves to their fate. But had they truly given up?

Xia Xiao couldn’t tell at the moment. The Zhao family home no longer resounded with laughter, yet life went on as usual.

The Zhao family members had become more cautious and careful, no longer speaking so freely. Xia Xiao didn’t hear anything and left.

When she returned to Mrs. Xia’s house, Xia Xiao encountered two strangers, although one seemed somewhat familiar.

Mrs. Xia introduced them, "Xiaoxiao, do you remember? This is your Sister Xiao Fei."

Xia Xiao turned towards Xia Fei and greeted her with a smile, "Sister Xiao Fei, it’s me, Xiaoxiao."

"My goodness." Xia Fei exclaimed, "You’ve changed so much, I hardly recognize you."

"Not at all; it’s just that Sister Xiao Fei hasn’t seen me in a while," said Xia Xiao with a laugh, knowing full well she had changed dramatically.

Xia Xiao looked at Xia Fei, who indeed didn’t resemble the Zhao family much, seeming more similar to Xia Jianguo. However, Xia Fei wasn’t unattractive—in fact, she was quite good-looking, with a graceful and gentle appearance, even prettier than Xia Yan in Xia Xiao’s eyes.

"Xiaoxiao has grown into such a beauty," Xia Fei said, genuinely amazed as she looked at Xia Xiao’s face.

"Sister Xiao Fei is very pretty too. If you keep saying that, I’ll be embarrassed. This must be your husband, right?" Xia Xiao shifted the topic and looked towards the man next to Xia Fei.

"Yes, this is your brother-in-law, Azati," Xia Fei introduced.

"Nice to meet you, brother-in-law," Xia Xiao greeted him along with Chen Jinseng.

"Good, good," Azati replied in his heavy-accented Mandarin, glanced at Xia Xiao, and then quickly looked away as if too shy to keep eye contact.

Xia Fei laughed and said, "That’s just how he is. Your brother-in-law is shy around strangers and feels embarrassed easily. Please don’t take offense."

"It’s fine, Sister Xiao Fei. You just got back, right?" Xia Xiao said with a slight smile, not minding it. At first glance, she thought Azati seemed decent. Knowing she was attractive, partly due to the nourishment from the "space," Xia Xiao could intuit what kind of look men had in their eyes when they saw her.

Azati, as Xia Fei’s husband and her brother-in-law, didn’t seem to harbor any other intentions in his gaze, and his respectful demeanor pleased Xia Xiao.

"Yes, we’ve just arrived. I heard grandma say you and your aunt went to see your other aunt. I was planning on stopping by too."

As Xia Fei finished speaking, Xia Xiao said, "Sister Xiao Fei and brother-in-law, why don’t you rest for a bit? We can all go together when I bring lunch over at noon."

"That sounds great," Xia Fei agreed with a nod.

After Xia Fei and Azati went to rest, Xia Xiao discussed Wang Huaying’s situation with Mrs. Xia, who said, "I’ve always told her to leave school for a while, but she never listens."

"Your second mother can’t go to school now, so don’t worry, grandma. It takes a hundred days to recover from muscle and bone injuries. It’ll be a few months before she’s better."

Mrs. Xia nodded, "It’s because I care for her. I’m afraid, even when she’s better, she’ll return to school. It keeps me anxious. Your second uncle too—why doesn’t he persuade her?"

But she only knew some general things and wasn’t prescient enough to foresee the difficulties the Xia Family would face.

As they were talking, Xia Fei came out of the room. Xia Xiao asked, "Sister Xiao Fei, why aren’t you resting?"

"I couldn’t sleep. I slept on the car ride here, and he was watching over me. Now he’s asleep, but I couldn’t, so I came out to sit for a bit."

Saying this, Xia Fei sat next to Xia Xiao and inquired about how things were for her at the Guangming Production Team.

Xia Xiao told Xia Fei about the team, and Xia Fei said enviously, "When I went there, it was tough. The locals were very hostile towards outsiders. Nasty individuals would even spit at you, and some ignorant children would throw stones and chase us away."

"When I first arrived, it was a struggle. There was nothing to eat—I even ate tree bark and leaves, anything I could get. At that time, I thought I might starve to death there. We worked hard farming, but the yields were poor and sometimes crops wouldn’t even grow, which made us all worried."

Hearing this, Xia Xiao felt the hardships Xia Fei had endured and appreciated even more how good the Guangming Production Team was.

"When we first arrived, we didn’t know how to farm or even recognize what the crops looked like; it was difficult then, but slowly it got better."

Xia Fei paused there, her few words conveying the struggle of those people.

"How did you and brother-in-law meet?" Xia Xiao asked.

When the topic turned to Azati, a warm light filled Xia Fei’s eyes. She smiled, saying, "Ah, he’s a hero from our area. He helped me several times when I was bullied by the locals. He said it was love at first sight for him. Every time I passed by, he would sing to me. I didn’t understand what he sang, but it sounded beautiful."

Looking at Xia Fei, Xia Xiao couldn’t help but feel envious, her eyes unwittingly filled with vivid images, finding the mere thought wonderfully captivating.
