Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 89: Sparring (1)
When we arrived, there was a group of old men who were waiting at the entrance of the sect to greet us.
Or rather, instead of greeting us, they were here to greet one person.
"Great Elder, where did you go?"
"Great Elder, we were all worried when you suddenly disappeared like that!"
"Liu Han, you might be the sect master, but you can’t just drag the Great Elder out without saying a thing. The Great Elder just recovered from his injuries, he shouldn’t be running around like this."
It seemed that Yao Fu hadn’t told anyone about where he was going, he had just left on his own without a word...
This person...he might be a Great Elder, but he definitely was a willful person.
I’ve had first hand experience of that when he came to see me.
Yao Fu just gave a snort and said, "I went to get Xue’er because of this beast selling her off to someone else."
"Xue’er?"
The elders said at the same time before turning to look in Liu Ao Xue’s direction.
The expressions on all of their faces immediately changed when they saw her.
With doting smiles on their faces, all of the elders immediately came forward to surround Liu Ao Xue without a single care for Yao Fu. Even though just a minute ago, they had all been worried about him.
"Xue’er, you’re finally back."
"Xue’er, take this treat. I’ve been saving it this whole time for you."
"This old man! Trying to buy Xue’er’s love with snacks? I won’t let you!"
In no time at all, they were like a bunch of grandpas and grannies who were giving their favourite grandchildren gifts. They had turned from stern looking elders to old men and women who were doting on their grandchild.
It seemed that it wasn’t just Yao Fu and Liu Han who doted on Liu Ao Xue, it seemed that it was all of the elders of the Star Peak Sect who acted this way with Liu Ao Xue.
I was starting to understand why Liu Ao Xue had been as cold as she had been when I first met her.
When parents and elders were this doting towards a child, it would be fine if they grew up in a normal family. But if they grew up in a family that had a reputation and was regarded highly by others, there would be expectations placed on them.
Just like me and my previous family on Earth.
They would think that one was just relying on the power of their family to coast through life, which would give them the pressure to prove their power.
There were many different ways for people to deal with the pressure and Liu Ao Xue chose to deal with it by showing how serious she could be. She wanted to show everyone that she wasn’t just relying on the power of the Star Peak Sect.
That was why she had suppressed her emotions like that.
As for me, I chose the path of the prodigal.
I chose the path of least resistance and acted the way that everyone expected me to act because that was the easiest way to deal with pressure.
That was why I had become a prodigal in my past life.
Liu Ao Xue slightly knitted her brows, but she no longer acted the same way as before as she said to the elders, "Please stop or I’ll get angry. I’m not a child anymore, so there’s no need to act this way anymore."
Then in a softer voice, she said, "I don’t need anything. I’ve missed all of you, so just being able to see you all is enough for me."
The elders were surprised when they heard this, but then they revealed happy smiles.
Many of them were against sending Liu Ao Xue out of the sect, but seeing her now...they realized that this had been correct.
She had learned how to control her emotions and face them, so she was no longer treating them as coldly as before.
If it was before, she would have just simply taken it without any reactions at all.
But now, she was actually telling them that she didn’t want these things and even told them to stop embarrassing her.
This was certainly a large improvement over what she was like before and...
It just made them dote on her more even though this wasn’t what Liu Ao Xue wanted. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
After welcoming Liu Ao Xue back for a bit, the elders finally noticed the rest of us who were here with them.
The elders were all confused when they saw me and my lackeys, but Yao Fu quickly introduced me and explained who I was.
"Xue’er’s disciple?"
There was only a momentary pause before they all suddenly exploded.
They all acted the same way as Yao Fu and Liu Han.
"Who dares lay a finger on our darling Xue’er?!"
But Liu Ao Xue had already been expecting this, so she had already moved in front of me and the lackeys just in case the elders tried anything.
When the elders saw Liu Ao Xue standing there, all of them revealed bitter looks, but they didn’t dare do anything.
All they could do was try to convince Liu Ao Xue to move out of the way, but she wouldn’t move at all.
When they saw that nothing was working, they turned to the Great Elder Yao Fu for help.
Yao Fu just shook his head with a bitter smile to show that he couldn’t do anything either, but he also made sure to give them a look. This look was telling them that he had already come up with some kind of plan to deal with him.
The elders had looks of doubt on their faces, but they didn’t say anything since they trusted that the Great Elder had a better scope of the situation than them.
Yao Fu led the way into the sect before saying, "How about we introduce them to some of the disciples of our sect. I’m sure that they would want to do some sparring with you."
