Chapter 400: Heading into the Demon Valley

"Yawn."

I couldn’t help letting this yawn escape from my mouth as we waited at the gate of Mist Flower City.

Today was the day that the Demon Slaying Conference began, which was why we were all gathered in front of the gate like this. What we were waiting for now was the higher ups from the Central Sect Alliance to announce the beginning of the Demon Slaying Conference.

It wasn’t because of the Demon Slaying Conference that I was tired.

It was because of the punishment that I received for what happened two nights ago that I was tired.

Since that night, I have never been allowed to sleep alone.

My room had been turned into a communal sleeping room, though it wasn’t for everyone to sleep in. There were only the girls that slept in my room as if they were guarding me, but they didn’t even let me sleep in my own bed.

I was pushed to the floor by them and they kept the bed for themselves.

In a way, that was the punishment.

It was hard to sleep like that, so I was feeling a bit tired after all this time.

But I didn’t say a single thing even though they treated me like this since there was nothing that I could say.

Even if it wasn’t my fault, it was a fact that my hand had been caught in the cookie jar. It wasn’t as if there was a part of me that could admit that I didn’t enjoy the dreams that the succubus had shown me.

So I just accepted the punishment since it wasn’t anything bad.

They were just concerned about me, which was why they were acting this way.

But now, it was time to focus since it was time to go to Demon Valley.

I was certain that this Demon Slaying Conference was anything but normal after everything that had happened. There was certainly a legion of demons with all kinds of strange abilities waiting for us inside of Demon Valley.

The only thing that I didn’t know was how many demons there were that had been summoned by whoever was in Demon Valley.

So there really was no telling what would happen later.

As I was lost in thought, there was a voice that suddenly rang out.

"You’re all here today to participate in the Demon Slaying Conference."

As soon as this voice rang out, I looked up at the one who was speaking.

There were several old men who had appeared on the city gates, but I didn’t recognize any of them. Even if they were higher ups in the Central Sect Alliance, it wasn’t as if I had met everyone from the Central Sect Alliance before.

It was an organization that was composed of all the sects that were on the continent, so it wouldn’t be strange if there were people that I didn’t recognize.

But there was a strong aura coming from each one of these old men which showed that they were indeed experts.

There was no doubt that they were most likely sect masters of high grade sects which was why they were higher ups in the Central Sect Alliance.

"I want to remind you all that the reason why we’re holding this Demon Slaying Conference is not only to test you from the younger generation and to look for new talents. I want to remind you that the main reason we’re doing this is for the safety of the people. I hope that all of you will keep this in mind as you do your great duty to the common people of the world, people just like the members of your family." The old man on the gate that stood in front of the others said as he looked over the crowd.

With the way that he said this, it was as if he was trying to stand for justice itself.

But of course, I wouldn’t be fooled that easily.

Even if they said that they were doing this for the people, I knew that the main reason that the sects were doing this was for prestige. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

There was no sect that could completely cut itself off from the secular world since it would need a steady supply of disciples.

Any sect that actually showed off would be able to easily recruit disciples from the mortals who knew of their sect’s fame.

So increasing the fame of the sect was the best way to ensure a steady supply of talented people.

That was the real main reason they were doing all of this.

Though the way that they said this really did make them sound like they were standing for righteousness in the world.

The old man continued with his speech for a while before he finally said, "I hope that the thing that all of you will care for the most is your own safety. You must remember that you are all the greatest treasures here, so do not lose your life to greed and do not lose your life in the pursuit of fame."

Once again, it sounded like he was quite the righteous person, but I knew that it was all for show.

After the old man finished his speech, he waved his hand and the gates of the city suddenly opened up.

When the gates opened, all of the old men who were on the gate suddenly said together, "Go! Go to Demon Valley and cleanse those demons for the good of all mankind!"

As soon as the gate opened, the people in front didn’t hesitate at all to charge forward.

I could see that they looked up at the old men who were on the gates as they charged out, as if they knew them.

If I had to guess, they most likely were disciples from the sects of these people who had been placed in front to show their support for them. At the same time, they would be responsible for driving everyone else forward.

People followed a crowd, it was in their nature.

However, I wasn’t fooled.

"Let’s take it slow and head to the Demon Valley at our own pace."
