Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 374: Entering the Tarask Desert
Sand Wind City was quite a distance from where the border of the Tarask Desert was.
Even though this was the closest city to the Tarask Desert and the last place that one could stop at to resupply, it didn’t mean that it was that close either.
The Tarask Desert was a taboo zone for a reason, so no one dared to live that close to it.
It would still take a while to reach the border of the Tarask Desert.
Though that was only by normal means.
Right after leaving Sand Wind City, I immediately had Bolt grow large again before riding on him towards the Tarask Desert.
This time, we weren’t heading right for the red dot on the map.
Instead, we were following the map that I had gotten from Sand Wind City.
It wasn’t the map that I had gotten in the first bar, but rather a much more detailed map that I had gotten from the Sand Wind City black market. In a place like this that was filled with mercenaries passing by and no real governing faction, it was only natural that there was a black market established.
In that place, money was key and money was the one thing that I didn’t lack.
So it wasn’t just the map that I bought in preparation to face the Tarask Desert, but also some other things.
They would only play a role once I was there.
After arriving at the edge of the Tarask Desert, I could tell why this was considered the border of the Tarask Desert.
It was even strange how this phenomenon came to be.
That was because there was a line where the sand blowing in the wind suddenly stopped. It seemed that as long as the sand didn’t go past that point, nothing would happen to it.
It almost seemed as if there was some kind of strange force that was keeping the sand inside of this border.
It really was strange seeing this phenomenon, but it was stranger seeing everyone just waiting at the edge of it.
When I arrived, I saw all of those people that were just standing outside of the border as if they were waiting for something. It was as if they were on guard against something that would be coming from inside of this sandstorm.
It didn’t seem to make sense what they were doing, but I didn’t rush as I had Bolt fly high up in the sky while watching over them.
All of a sudden, there were two people that ran out of the sandstorm and exited the Tarask Desert.
As soon as these two people exited the sandstorm, everyone that had been waiting at the edge of the sandstorm suddenly charged forward towards the two of them. With the way that they drew their weapons, it was almost as if they wanted to attack these people.
But that wasn’t the case.
That was because there was something else that chased the two of them out of the sandstorm, but these things weren’t normal. There seemed to be a cloud of sand around these things that came out of the sandstorm.
As soon as they came out, they were hit with a bunch of attacks from the people that had been charging forward.
In an instant, they were pinned by these weapons to the ground.
However, the people that had attacked these things didn’t stop as they kept sending out more attacks just in case they were playing dead.
It was only when these things had been torn apart that they finally stopped attacking and went over to collect their spoils.
The things that were left on the ground were bits of the creature that they attacked.
When I looked closely, I found that they were a few hedgehogs that had been torn to pieces.
With the green skin that they had, it was almost as if they were cacti rather than hedgehogs.
The people ignored the green skin of the cacti hedgehog and went to pick up the spikes that had been left behind.
I thought about it for a bit before remembering something from the information that I gained.
From the mercenaries that had been in the Tarask Desert before, I learned that one of the main things that were hunted were these hedgehogs. They were called Sand Hogs and they had the ability to control the sand of the sandstorms.
Though it wasn’t strong enough to raise a full sandstorm, it was enough to let the Sand Hogs hide their true bodies and give them enough time to shoot out their spikes. The very same spikes that these same people were collecting.
These spikes were quite sharp and hard, so they were good materials to use for creating weapons and would sell for quite a bit.
That was why the mercenaries hunted these Sand Hogs in the first place.
It was why these people who were most likely mercenaries also hunted them.
Though the way that they hunted them was a bit strange, I couldn’t deny that it was effective.
There was a part of me that even wondered if it was because this place was the habitat of the Sand Hogs that it was filled with sandstorms all the time like this.
"That isn’t the case." The system suddenly chimed in.
I was surprised to hear this and wanted to ask what the system meant by this, but it seemed like the system wasn’t planning on saying anything as it just displayed the map with the red dot in front of me.
It was almost as if it was urging me to take care of this mission as soon as possible.
Since the system was urging me like this, I didn’t bother arguing with it and directed Bolt to land nearby.
While I could have had Bolt dive into the sandstorm of the Tarask Desert, I chose not to do that and land nearby before walking in.
After all, there was no telling what was hiding in this sandstorm.
