Warhammer Divine Throne-Chapter 586 - 257, The Lost Lake God Witch
After a bath that left him feeling both physically and mentally delightful in various senses, Laine donned the baron's official attire, picked up the weary Dark Elf, and returned her to his own bedroom. After a moment of contemplation, he still decided to head to the third-floor Prayer Room to find Mogiana.
The Lake God Witch is the religious leader of this country, the First Divine Chosen of the Lake Fairy in the mortal world. Despite her current frailty, she still wields strong control over the Saintess Order and the Holy Grail Knight Order.
The castle is filled with an air of meticulous repair. Laine noticed that, besides his own guards, a dozen Guardian Knights from Surya's family had also moved in. When they saw Laine appear, they all bowed in respect, which was both a show of reverence to the Holy Grail Knight and respect to the lady's future groom.
Additionally, many young Ranger Knights looked at Laine with fervent anticipation and Holy Grail fanaticism, perhaps thinking that being near Laine meant being closer to the Holy Grail.
Standing at the door of the third-floor Prayer Room, Laine hesitated at the sight of the white walls and wooden door but eventually knocked: "Your Highness Mogiana? It's Laine."
"Laine? You're back? Please come in." Mogiana's cool voice echoed from inside the room.
Upon opening the door, he saw the room's simple decor: a round table, a soft cherry wood bed, several wardrobes, a few chairs, and some basic books, which composed Mogiana's entire living space. According to Surya, the Lake God Witch seldom leaves the castle, spending the majority of her time resting in her room. Occasionally, she would stroll around near the castle, always protected by at least eight Holy Grail Knights.
Laine noticed a tense expression between Mogiana's brows, which relaxed somewhat upon seeing him. Today, the Lake God Witch wore a sleeveless champagne-colored long dress, and her delicate ivory skin radiated a faint glow. Her emerald eyes assessed Laine, and upon seeing he was unharmed, Mogiana reached out her hand: "Laine, you're back. You've done well; you once again defended this Kingdom and ended the Red Duke's centuries of atrocities."
"This wasn't done by myself alone. Without everyone's joint effort in infiltrating Musillon and ultimately discovering the Vampire's siege camp's location, this war might have continued." Laine helped Mogiana to her feet, and the Lake God Witch naturally leaned on him. He guided her to sit behind the round table and then pulled a chair with a backrest to sit beside her.
Mogiana's gaze followed the man's movements; her expression carried a faint warmth, and she seemed much happier. Thus, under the afternoon warmth, Laine slowly recounted the events to Mogiana, who listened quietly.
"Phew~" The sound of wind blew past the window, and it took Laine about half an hour to detail the account.
Disguising to infiltrate Musillon, exploiting summer specials to gather intelligence, evading Mathew Bade's probes, negotiating with Old Dike, heading straight for the siege camp after leaving the city, Veronica's summoning of meteorites, through to the subsequent killing of the Blood Red Duke, leaving a rear guard, and the arduous battle with Manfred before eventually escaping.
Laine's eloquence was quite good; he narrated his experiences clearly without interruptions. Mogiana only nodded and smiled faintly as he spoke, conveying approval from the Lake Fairy and praising Laine's performance. However, once the entire story was heard, there was not much joy on the Lake God Witch's face, only a sigh.
"What's wrong, my Highness?" Laine keenly sensed Mogiana's low spirits, so he took the initiative to ask.
Mogiana extended her hand towards Laine, signaling for him to hold her.
So Laine gently held Mogiana's small hand, picked her up, and placed her on his lap: "My Highness?"
"You shouldn't have taken such risks." Mogiana leaned against Laine, murmuring softly: "This war shouldn't have been like this, it shouldn't have been necessary to be like this. I should have gathered the dukes' armies to swiftly annihilate the Vampire forces, but..."
The rest of her words were left unsaid.
As the Lake Fairy's First Divine Chosen and the mortal world's representative, Mogiana was caught off guard and ambushed, now gravely injured and yet to recover. She felt like a mere shell, unable to do much and needing to hide in Laine's castle to recuperate, with almost everything including daily life requiring assistance. Laine, Bodric, Francois, and others led armies to battle Vampires, whereas Mogiana could only get snippets of information from messengers. How could the always proud and strict self-demanding Lake God Witch accept this?
A pair of jade-like feet clad in white stockings appeared from under her long dress, the thin fabric enveloping her tender instep, dainty ankles gleaming like jade. Her feet swayed lightly beneath the gown as her crystal slippers with small heels dropped to the floor. Mogiana self-deprecatively remarked: "You see, Laine, I can't even take a step now. I've been resting for over a month, yet I'm still like this."
The Lake God Witch raised her head, two lines of clear tears slipping down her face: "Laine, look, am I not very useless? You fight at the frontline for the Lady, while I hide in your castle, needing a special squad of Holy Grail Knights to protect me."
Laine, seeing this, smiled wryly, at a loss for words in his hands, hesitating for a while before softly comforting her: "My Highness, you just need a period of rest. At most, three to five years for recovery, during which time, rest well. Leave anything to me; I will help you."
