Chapter 47: Fledgling Mage

The Butcher watched with a sad smile as Belladonna took over her shop, selling slice after slice of the Behemoth beast. She even had to stop her sales on more than a few occasions to go cut some more product.

The Butcher was proud of her student, but she couldn’t help but look at all that money she was raking in with a heavy heart, thinking of all the money she had lost out on because she had been too slow. But, such as business.

Sure, she could have kicked her out of the shop for going around her, but what good what that do? It would only ruin her relationship with the young graceless and send her away to go sell it on the street anyways. At least this way, she could hope to use the boost in popularity to squeeze a few more sales of her own.

In the end, everyone who could afford it got what they wanted and those who couldn’t were forced to leave with empty hands, grumbling to themselves that they were going to go grind to afford it. 17 cuts of meat, that’s what Belladonna had sold in this rush. Too many players were still poor, while others were probably hoping to steal from those who could afford it instead.

Such was their nature.

But it left her with a tidy sum of 272 Regil, that she laid out onto the table and was counting one by one. Her own miniature mountain of glittering gold, silver and bronze. How could she ever hope to keep the smile off of her face when she was staring at this.

She took out her old bag, taking the time to switch its contents properly to the new one, before pouring half of the coinage into her old bag and the other half into her new one.

That made the Butcher frown, as Belladonna hoofed the bag from the table and held it out to the larger woman.

"Here, 8 Regil was our discount price, right? This is what would have been your profits from that deal."

The Butchers eyes widened, glancing between the bag and Belladonna with an incredulous look on her face.

"Lass... I can’t... But you were the one that..."

"It’s fine. We made a deal after all." Belladonna insisted, practically forcing the heavy, coin filled bag into the Butchers hands before pulling her new bag over her shoulder. Thankfully, she didn’t feel any of the physical weight, all due to the enchantment on it, only the psychological weight of being rich.

"Plus, there is still some meat left on the corpse and I’m not good enough to get it off. There’s also the bones and organs that I don’t know what to do with.... Oh, I could do with some of the fat though...

Anyways, I’ll let you sell that all and I’ll come for my cut later. Sound good?"

The Butcher stared at her in disbelief, before breaking out into a large smile, pulling Belladonna into a hug that threatened to snap her spine, before finally letting her go.

"You got it lil’ fighter! I’ll take care of yer’ beast no problem. But you don’t need to come back here and collect your money from this old crone. Go to the bank, set up an account and I’ll pop it all in there when it sells.

I swear on the gods I’ll give you a fair deal and repay ye’ for this."

"Haha, Thanks... I’ll do just that." Belladonna said with a pained smile, rolling her shoulders from the pain in her back. How she could fight that bear and still not be able to tough out a hug from this woman, she had no idea.

Probably another glitch like her damned pain inhibitor turning off for the worst pain in the world, and hugs.

"Actually..." She continued, pulling the wizards book out from her bag.

"Now that I’ve got money, I was wondering if you could help me find a place to buy some things."

After a quick visit to the local bank to set up an account, Belladonna followed the Butchers directions to building on the edge of town.

It was easy to spot thanks to the elegantly dressed scarecrow dancing outside, spinning a glowing sign in an attempt to draw in customers.

Above the door, a wooden sign had the name "Helsany’s Horticulture" written in crude handwriting with a paintbrush.

The inside was an assault to the senses. Countless different spices, plants, animal parts, sparkling dusts and other strange ingredients created a smell like no other, that eagerly clung to your nose and would not let go.

It was also as bright as it was smelly, with the various items scattered about on rickety shelving that looked ready to fall.

There was no sense or organisation in the slightest, at least as far as she could see. Everything has simply been thrown onto the shelves without a care.

Past the maze of shelves, Belladonna could see half the face of a young woman peering over the counter.

Even with the counter being chest height, the girl was barely able to get more than her nose above it. If it wasn’t for the massive, oversized floppy witches hat that she wore on her head, you might have missed her.

"Hello there," Belladonna said with a smile, pulling out a list of items she had copied from the Grimoire, and laid the list on the counter.

"I was wondering if you had any of these items."

The girl, who must be Helsany, hopped up slightly to snatch the list and wobbled when she landed. She quickly read over it, muttering softly to herself, before looking at Belladonna with a sly smile.

"Ah, A fledgling mage huh? Wanting to summon your first familiar. Lucky for you, I have a space perfect for it that you can use... for a price. While you do that, I’ll get the rest of your ingredients. Follow me."

Helsany said, before hopping off the stool she had been standing on and plodding further into the depths of the story. Her oversized hat bobbing side to side with every step.
