Chapter 124: Not so Magical Peacocks

The receptionist gave her a strange look at that question, before she nodded softly in understanding.

"Ah, I see. You want to brush up on your foundational magic before you advance anymore. Clever girl, a good foundation is always the way to go.

But that is a little bit of a silly question, of course we do. This is the Tower of Mystica. If we didn’t have books for beginners, what kind of mage tower would we be? Even if some of the... ahem, simpler Graceless are unable to properly appreciate the gesture."

She gestured over Belladonna’s shoulder to a pair of boys clad in armour that were arguing between each other, struggling to infuse their swords with the element of fire. Even from where she stood, Belladonna could sense their clumsy efforts to grasp the mana and their impatient attempts to just jam it into the sword.

Belladonna couldn’t help but chuckle slightly at their attempts, and the teasing words that the receptionist was whispering in their ear.

"I mean I don’t want to sound mean, but I feel sorry for any girl they try to get with those miserable skills. Clumsy thrusting, ugh, never good. Oops, and there they go. Loosing their concentration after just a few tries.

Oh that’s just sad..." The receptionist whispered such evil things into her mind as they watched the boys, forcing Belladonna to hold in her laughs.

But as hard as she tried, she couldn’t keep them all in and eventually burst out laughing at the final comment, and the implication behind it, drawing the attention of those two boys.

The girls quickly looked away, laughing between each other, causing the boys to frown deeply before one muttered to the other,

"Dude... Those girls are totally checking us out."

"You think?" His friend replied, looking over at the girls again as he puffed out his chest.

"Yeah, definitely. I mean why else would they be staring so much? Girls do this all the time. Just act cool."

The boys nodded to each other, confident in their assessment before they started to make some very subtle adjustment to their stance and posed ever so slightly. Well... It was subtle in their minds.

In reality it was obvious what they were doing as they sucked in their cheeks, jutted out their jaws and tried their best to look like the Greek Adonises they thought they were. When the girls laughed again, and more people starting to give them strange looks, the boys simply took that as their seduction attempts working.

"God, you are so bad." Belladonna muttered, gently slapping the receptionists arm, who gave a sly smirk in response.

"What can I say? This job gives you a talent for gossip. Now I can’t say I’m not surprised you need to sure up your foundation, but if you think it’s necessary I won’t say otherwise. If you go to the library, there will be a nice big section for beginners near the door.

You can borrow up to five tomes at once, but they are required to be returned within a month. Since you are on this floor, I would recommend using your membership privileges.

Tap the ring against the obelisk in the centre of the table when you sit down, and again when you leave. Trust me, it will make everything so much better."

Belladonna bowed her head in thanks and was about to walk away, when Beans manifested on her shoulder and bumped his head against her chin. He let out a few miserable mews, as if he had been starved for weeks, before looking up at her with pleading eyes.

Belladonna sighed, cursing her terrible memory and turned back to the receptionist.

"Is there a free room where I can prepare cultivation materials?"

The receptionist giggled, reaching over and scratching Beans behind his ear, before taking Belladonna’s hand and gently tapping her membership ring. A moment later, an illusionary arrow appeared above the ring, pointing down the corridor to her right.

"Follow those directions and you’ll be fine."

"Thank you." Belladonna said with another bow of the head before finally moving away, heading towards the cultivation room before the library. It would be easier to study if she wasn’t being pestered by a cat desperate to be fed.

She didn’t even know if Beans ate normally, or what Shadow Demon’s usually ate if anything, but the thought of having to wait even longer for his cultivation meal was clearly too much for the little cat.

Belladonna hurried past the two boys still flaunting themselves like a pair of peacocks, having to hold in her giggles in the process, and headed down the corridor indicated by her ring.

A few moments after her departure the door to the tower swung open again, as it was known to do on this popular floor, and through it strolled a woman with a gaggle of men trailing behind her.

The woman swept her luscious and silky blonde hair over her shoulder, which bounced from its perfect curls and caused a few sparkles, like pixie dust, to flutter into the air. A pair of adorable cat ears, the same colour as her hair, sprouted from the top of her head and a tail swished behind her.

Every time the tail brushed against one of the men following her, they practically quivered with delight.

"Are you sure it was her? And she definitely came in here?" The woman in front asked the man behind her, as she fixed her robes. Her robes were the pinnacle of luxury and beauty, although she hadn’t spent a single penny on them.

They had been so generously purchased for her by the many men following her from one of the luxury stores in the city. Of course it definitely wasn’t her fault that the way she wore the robes made her cleavage incredibly obvious nor that they clung to her incredibly tight waist to perfectly accentuate her plump rear end.

That was just a coincidence. She couldn’t help that her amazing body made everything look good.

In fact, all of her gear had been bought for her. She never had to spend a penny ever, LusciousLox was just lucky like that.
