Chapter 76: Interrogator

Ugh. What a dilemma. Unless we find that mole, we wouldn’t be able to go back to Mythos for now, or we’d risk getting caught. We had no idea who it could have been and what motive they had. Only when we know for sure would we be able to take the next step. Until then, we must remain vigilant at all times.

’Haah... I can’t believe we became careless about something so obvious. But who could it possibly be? They didn’t find out about us being agents, right? For that part, I know we’ve been cautious, so I highly doubt anyone caught us. For Eun-Woo’s plan of not taking over his father’s business, I think we discussed it a few times with the servants and bodyguards nearby. It must be one of them.’

"There are many ways to solve this," I said, "but the best and fastest option is by interrogation."

"You are right," Agent Helios replied, "but we can’t do the interrogation ourselves. We need to involve a third party—someone who doesn’t serve this household and has no connection to any one of them."

"I agree. But we can’t contact Mythos right now. Where can we find a third party? We can’t just hire anyone from the outside."

Agent Helios pressed his temples and sighed.

"Most people that have been with us and are serving this house are dad’s people. I can’t believe they would dare betray me. The motive must have been to spy for any business-related information in exchange for money. Some businessmen would do that just to know where and when they should invest and gain more profit, or which side they should go with. My dad must have been too lenient and kind with them. Ughhh... This is what happens when people are too kind."

"Father-in-law is not at fault for being kind. It’s those greedy people who are at fault for taking advantage of that kindness!"

"Still, it’s wrong to be kind, especially when it comes to business. With dad’s position, a lot of snakes and vipers are surely surrounding him, waiting for a moment to strike. Just look at what Mr. Choi did. He tried to make me join their side—that way, if ever the accounting fraud gets to light, dad would be lenient because of me. That way, they have a safety net and will most likely put all the blame on me, thinking I’m stupid. How truly cunning of them. They even used that info about me not taking over dad’s business to try and trick me into joining them. Ughhh..."

"You’re right. From the very beginning, that must have been his plan. Haah... he must have thought this through so much to be able to come up with such a scheme."

Agent Helios leaned his back toward the couch’s backrest and crossed his arms, sighing again.

"Anyway, enough dwelling on the problem. We need a solution," he said, looking back at me. "For the interrogator, I already have someone in mind. He’s also an agent in Mythos, but I can contact him just fine without going through a formal request at the base."

"Huh? Someone from Mythos that you can contact privately, you mean? I didn’t know you had friends there."

That’s right. Mythos agents only knew each other at work but couldn’t contact each other privately unless they personally gave out their contact information or if they ever got involved in the same mission like me and Agent Helios. Otherwise, we were just a bunch of people seeing each other at our base but not that close to be acquaintances. After all, we were all agents, and we could never trust each other despite all the security protocols. To think that he had someone he was close enough and trust enough to personally give out his contact information, and for that person to do the same...

’Woah! Could it be that he’s—Wait, no way. He’s a pervert towards me, and I’m a woman, so I don’t think he swings that way. Unless he doesn’t care about gender?!’

Agent Helios grimaced, seeing my reaction.

"Oh, please. I’m not gay. I already told you that."

"Okay, if you say so. I was just surprised that you have a friend."

"Don’t lump me in the same group as you."

"Hey! I have Yoon-Ah! She’s my best friend!"

"Any other friends?" he asked, raising his eyebrows at me.

"Well... no, but still, I have one!"

"Ugh. Whatever."

Tsk. What a hateful guy.

"Anyway, who is it?" alas, I asked, dropping the matter altogether.

"Agent Hades."

My eyes widened hearing that name.

"What?! That flirt?"

Right. He did mention him once before—that he gained most of his knowledge about couples and relationships with someone who had lots of experience—Agent Hades!

Remembering that, I finally understood where he got his flirty demeanor. From the way he talked and acted sweet when he was in his "Eun-Woo" persona to the times he flirted with me even in private, being touchy and kissy and all that—he must have learned from the master of flirts, Agent Hades!

"Ha-ha-ha," I laughed slowly at the newfound knowledge. "Would you look at that? Birds of the same feather really do flock together, huh?"

"Huh? I’m not a flirt."

"You are with me!"

"You’re my wife. I’m allowed to flirt with you," he replied, smirking at me.

I rolled my eyes and sighed.

"Ugh. Please. This is a facade. We’re not a real couple," I scoffed. "Besides, you flirted just fine with Ms. Choi. It was so effective she got seduced."

"Ha-ha. I was still flirting with you at that time, though. Oh wait, were you jealous?"

"What? No way."

"Eh? Really?"

"You know what? Let’s drop this. We’re getting nowhere. Going back to Agent Hades, if you trust him so, then go ahead and contact him to do the interrogation for us. And if he can do it within a week, that would be great."

"Ha-ha-ha. What do you mean a week? It won’t even take him a whole day."

What did he say? But he would be interrogating not just one or two or three people—we had tons of bodyguards and another tons of servants who were always with us. Not to mention, they take shifts and change during different times of the day. All in all, that would be around a hundred people who could be a possible suspect! How in the world could someone interrogate a hundred people in just a day? Not even a whole day?

"That’s impossible unless he would trim them down first by reviewing and analyzing CCTV records to rule out who came into contact with us during our discussions. And reviewing CCTV records takes days to do, especially with the scope of servants here. Just imagine trying to trail one person’s track. That’s why I suggested going straight to interrogation instead."

"Don’t worry. Agent Hades is the best interrogator there is, apart from me."

"Wow. The amount of trust. I didn’t think you were capable of trusting someone. Or is it that you trust him because you’re both shrewd and think the same way?"

"It’s not that I completely trust him personally—I trust his skills more," he explained. "You may not know this, but I suggest you not underestimate him." Then, in a whisper, he continued as if taunting me, "He’s a better agent than you are."

...

What the f*ck did he say? Did he just... insult me?

"Ha-ha-ha," I laughed despite my anger rising within me. "Excuse me? Better than me? I’m the Top 2 agent, in case you forgot."

He chuckled, probably amused by my reaction.

"I know this is hard to take, but I’m telling the truth. The only reason Agent Hades remained in Top 3, the spot after you since forever, was simply because... he likes the number."

...

"WHAT?"

My face grimaced at the ridiculousness of what I heard.

"It’s true. I thought it was stupid at first, but that’s just his personality. I don’t know if he has a deeper reason behind it, but it’s the truth. He stops taking missions once he has already accumulated enough points to be on the third spot. And he works fast that’s why he has a lot of free time in his hands then goes around flirting for the rest of the year."

What a weirdo. There’s no way that could be true, right? He must be lying to me to make me worry since he knew I was aiming to be Top 1. If he’s so great, then he should have picked him for this S-rank mission. Oh wait, he’s a man, so they wouldn’t be able to get married.

’Anyway. Seriously, this guy. Hah! Do you think I’d be fooled by that lie? No way!’

But then... The harsh truth soon enough slapped me hard in the face.

When Agent Hades came to the mansion and interrogated a hundred people in just a day... and managed to catch the culprit together with all the evidence.

And he did all that with his nonchalant, smiling, smug face—the same hateful smile Agent Helios had whenever he looked down at me.

Tsk. No wonder they get along so well. They’re both devil incarnates!
