Chapter 232: Chapter 232- Fishing for Foundation Establishment (6)

As Grey’s body cut through the water like a swift arrow, he couldn’t help but turn his head and glance back toward the distant surface, toward the battlefield where the captain was still locked in combat with the divine fish.

Violent energy fluctuations rippled through the depths, distorting the surrounding seawater. Even from such a great distance, those aftershocks were enough to make Grey’s heart tighten. The pressure alone carried a suffocating weight, like an invisible tide bearing down on him. He even suspected that the captain wasn’t going all out yet.

’As expected... the captain’s cultivation is higher than mine.’ Grey thought grimly. ’Even though the fluctuations she’s releasing only indicate the power of two balls of Spirit Fire, the attacks she can unleash far surpass that level.’

His gaze hardened, and he pushed his body faster through the water.

If the Mosasaur had not summoned that divine fish projection, Grey was confident he could have killed it by now. He still had many techniques he hadn’t revealed, as well as several trump cards he had deliberately kept hidden. Unfortunately, the interference had forced his hand.

Several thousand feet behind him, the Mosasaur finally sensed his presence.

By that time, it had already fled more than ten thousand feet away from the captain and the divine fish. Even so, it could still feel the terrifying fluctuations spreading through the water behind it. From that alone, the Mosasaur could tell that the battle above was far from simple.

Grey narrowed his eyes.

The instant their gazes met, the terror and fear in the Mosasaur’s eyes vanished completely. What replaced it was raw, unrestrained rage.

It hated this human.

This human had injured it repeatedly, poisoned its body, and forced it to summon a divine fish projection from the depths of its sea of consciousness. On top of that, the captain’s overwhelming aura and murderous intent had driven it into humiliating retreat.

In its mind, all of that humiliation had a single source.

Grey.

When Grey met the Mosasaur’s gaze, he instinctively knew, it was time to end this.

Without hesitation, he reached into his storage bag and drew out the purple-colored scythe.

The moment the scythe appeared, an intense desire for blood erupted from it, spreading through the surrounding water like a silent scream.

However, that thirst was not directed at Grey.

It was aimed solely at the Mosasaur.

The sentient spirit residing within the scythe had long since accepted Grey as its master. That bond would remain intact until the brand Grey had placed upon it completely faded.

As the killing intent from the scythe spilled outward, Grey’s expression grew icy. His eyes narrowed into a sharp glint as he charged straight toward the approaching Mosasaur.

This was already the umpteenth time they had clashed like this.

Within a few short breaths, the distance between them shrank to less than a hundred feet.

In the very next second, the Mosasaur opened its massive jaws and let out a deafening roar.

The sound carried a strange, oppressive force. Nearby sea creatures were instantly drawn toward it, their eyes glazing over as their consciousness was torn away. Though their minds were gone, their bodies continued to move, propelling themselves forward with terrifying speed.

Their target was clear.

Grey.

Seeing this, Grey flicked the scythe in his hand.

A cold purple arc flashed through the water.

Many of the approaching sea creatures were instantly torn apart. One of the scythe’s most terrifying qualities was its absurd sharpness, mere contact with the blade was enough to cause severe injury.

As for the mindless sea creatures under the Mosasaur’s control, they acted purely on instinct. They lacked both reason and awareness.

They did not know how to dodge.

Very quickly, any creature that came into contact with the scythe was shredded, their bodies split apart and drifting lifelessly through the water.

At the same time, Grey summoned the phantom formed by the Life Demon Art.

A purple flame erupted, wrapping around the phantom’s body. In a blink, it vanished from Grey’s side and reappeared amidst the swarm of sea creatures. The purple flames spread rapidly, devouring their souls and refining their remaining life force.

The Soul Devouring Everlasting Bird appeared next.

It inhaled deeply.

One by one, the bodies of the sea creatures collapsed, disintegrating bit by bit as they were swallowed by the bird’s terrifying power.

Only seconds later, Grey and the Mosasaur clashed head-on once more.

A muffled boom echoed through the dark waters, sending violent shockwaves in all directions.

The Mosasaur was blasted backward.

In that same instant, the Soul Devouring Everlasting Bird appeared behind it and inhaled deeply again. A large portion of flesh and blood was torn away, vanishing into the bird’s beak. Without making a sound, it disappeared just as quickly.

What followed was the phantom of the Life Demon.

It extended its long, clawed hand and slammed it down onto the Mosasaur’s massive body. Purple flames erupted and spread, engulfing it completely.

The Mosasaur let out a low, pained cry and violently shook its body.

Although the purple flames had no physical form and were largely illusory, their purpose was far more terrifying. They burned the soul directly and refined life essence itself. They could be called soul fire rather than ordinary flames.

Even so, the Mosasaur managed to shake them off.

Grey’s eyes narrowed in surprise.

This Mosasaur is definitely not ordinary, he thought. His killing intent deepened even further.

Without hesitation, Grey stabilized himself in the water and charged forward once again.

The Mosasaur also managed to steady itself after dispelling the Life Demon’s flames. Its current appearance was finally revealed clearly.

A long, horrifying gash stretched across its back, still bleeding heavily. Thick, black blood seeped from the wound, dispersing into the water.

Yet that wasn’t the worst of it.

The flesh and scales around the injury had visibly withered, as though all vitality had been drained from that portion of its body. Strangely, very little fresh blood continued to flow.

It was as if that section of its body had already been emptied dry.

Now, the Mosasaur looked utterly miserable.

Its once pristine scales were riddled with holes, cracks, and torn flesh. The ferocity in its eyes had noticeably dimmed, and its consciousness was beginning to waver.

This was the aftereffect of the Soul Devouring Everlasting Bird.

Even Grey would have struggled to recognize the Mosasaur in such a pitiful state.

Yet even though the light in the Mosasaur’s eyes was rapidly fading, a terrifying instinctual ferocity still burned within them. Even on the verge of death, the ancient sea beast refused to yield and continued to fight back with savage resolve.

Grey’s twenty-nine spirit perforations roared to life in response. Spirit power surged through his meridians like a raging tide, flooding his limbs with explosive strength. With this overwhelming reinforcement, he was able to directly counter the Mosasaur’s wild and unrestrained attacks head-on.

However, with every violent strike and frenzied burst of power, the light of reasoning within the Mosasaur’s eyes diminished further. The faint trace of intelligence it once possessed was being steadily eroded, replaced by nothing but madness and blind instinct.

Grey remained silent throughout the exchange, his expression calm and indifferent. Yet he understood the reason behind this change all too well.

It was because of his Soul Devouring Everlasting Bird.

With a decisive palm strike, Grey halted the Mosasaur’s massive flipper mid-swing using only one hand. The collision released a violent shockwave as a burst of heavily condensed seawater, mixed with dark, viscous blood, shot toward him at terrifying speed. However, before it could reach him, Grey’s palm flared with spirit power, stopping the attack completely as if an invisible wall had been erected in front of him.

At this point, the Mosasaur was clearly weakening.

Its movements slowed, its massive body trembling as exhaustion crept in. The injuries it had sustained were far more severe than they appeared on the surface. Though its thick outer shell looked largely intact, Grey could tell that its insides were already in complete disarray. The poison ravaging its body was eating away at its vitality from within, leaving it with little strength to continue resisting.

Finally, the purple flames of the Life Demon Art ignited on Grey’s fingers.

The moment they appeared, a terrifying aura spread through the surrounding seawater. Grey extended his hand, and the purple flames surged forward, instantly engulfing the Mosasaur’s massive body. The beast let out a low, trembling roar as its body shook violently, instinctively trying to extinguish the flames.

But it was useless.

No matter how violently it struggled, the purple flames continued to spread, crawling across its scales and burrowing deep into its flesh. The fire burned not only the body, but the very life essence of the creature itself.

The last time this technique had been used, it was performed by the phantom.

However, the phantom was not a living being and could not fully unleash the true might of the purple flames. Now that Grey was personally executing the technique, the difference was unmistakable. The Mosasaur could barely struggle at all.

Coupled with its already weakened state, it had no strength left to resist.

The ferocity and madness in its eyes gradually dimmed, fading away little by little.

It was at this moment that Grey recalled what he had once read about Mosasaurs. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

They were known as highly ferocious sea creatures that would attack anything that provoked them. In the Qi Accumulation Realm, very few cultivators possessed the power to stop them. Only those who had reached the Foundation Establishment Realm could suppress their rampage.

However, once a Mosasaur itself entered the Foundation Establishment Realm, its existence would become a nightmare for all other Foundation Establishment cultivators within the Dead Sea.

Due to their innate ferocity and madness, Mosasaurs cultivated at an astonishing speed. Yet despite this, very few of them ever managed to step into the Spirit Core Formation Realm. Those that succeeded would become legendary existences capable of shaking the entire Dead Sea.

As for the rest, their fates were grim.

Some were hunted down by cultivators and refined into materials for cultivation. Others were killed by powerful sea creatures of higher cultivation realms. After all, the Mosasaur’s brutal and uncontrollable nature caused countless races and species to harbor deep grudges against them.

If an opportunity to kill a Mosasaur ever presented itself, no one would hesitate.

It was also at this moment that Grey realized something important about the life of a Mosasaur.

They were not born ferocious.

They became ferocious because of their environment.

Forced to survive in a cruel and hostile world, they adopted ruthless and violent methods to live on. And because of this ferocity and disregard for others, their cultivation levels rose at a frightening pace.

Yet all of this only began after the Gods descended.

Their arrival changed the world completely. The spread of corrosive substances and the collapse of natural order made it impossible for many species to survive through ordinary means. The Mosasaurs were simply one example among countless others.

To survive, they were forced to evolve.

And in the end, as Grey’s purple flames continued to refine the remaining life essence of the Mosasaur, he could not help but feel a trace of respect for the fallen beast.

This respect did not waver his resolve, nor did it change his decision.

But it allowed him to understand the Mosasaur, just a little bit more.
