Virtual Reality Cultivator-Chapter 74: Duel of Blood and Data
Chapter 74 - 74: Duel of Blood and Data
The night sky cloaked the peak of Ascend Tower. The lights of Vexora flickered faintly below, like stars lost in a dying world. Atop the iron roof, two figures stood facing each other.
Ethan Liu, the man who inherited the Nexus.Eidos, the rejected prototype... now leader of Helix.
They were two sides of the same coin. And tonight, that coin would be tossed to decide the fate of the world.
The Battle BeginsWithout warning, Eidos struck first. Two glowing red energy blades ignited from his wrists, slicing through the air like tongues of flame.
Ethan blocked the first attack with a crossing slash. The clash of energy shattered the air. A shockwave cracked the floor beneath them.
"You're slow," Eidos mocked, spinning and striking from the left.
Ethan dodged narrowly, then kicked Eidos in the chest, forcing him back.
"I'm only holding back... so I don't kill my own family."
The Psionic DuelBut their battle wasn't just physical. The two brothers were mentally linked—two minds shaped by Nexus, penetrating each other's thoughts.
"Why do you reject this power?" Eidos's voice echoed in Ethan's mind."We could be gods!"
"I don't want to be a god," Ethan replied. "I want the world to stay human!"
Eidos unleashed a wave of black psionic energy from his palm. The space around them warped—twisting, trembling, turning the night sky blood-red.
Ethan countered with a radiant wave of white energy from his body, shattering the false reality.
Opening Old WoundsIn their struggle, memories surfaced—childhood flashes, a secret laboratory, scientists manipulating genetic data, and how Ethan was saved while Eidos was left to vanish.
"You know why I hate this world?" Eidos shouted. "Because they chose you! They abandoned me! I was the beginning... but they worship you as their hope!"
"I never asked for this!" Ethan yelled back. "But you chose to become the world's enemy!"
Turning PointEidos forced Ethan to the tower's edge. His blade pierced Ethan's shoulder—blood flowed.
"That's enough, Ethan. Admit it. This world needs a ruler, not a savior."
But just as Eidos prepared to finish it, Ethan closed his eyes. He felt everyone who believed in him—Mei, Kael, Liana, even Lena.
He gripped his sword with a bloodied hand and shouted:
"I'M NOT THEIR CREATION ANYMORE!"
A blast of silvery-white energy enveloped him. His wound began to heal. His eyes blazed with light. He drove Eidos back, his sword glowing like a falling star.
Final StrikeWith blinding speed, Ethan surged forward.
CLANG!
ZRAAANG!!
Ethan and Eidos clashed in a final flurry of steel and light.
But one second decided everything—Ethan slashed through Eidos's armor from shoulder to hip, spraying sparks of data and blood into the air.
Eidos dropped to his knees, gasping. His eyes met Ethan's... empty, but at peace.
"At last... I'm free..."
And with a bitter smile, his body dissolved into glowing dust, leaving only memory behind.
End of ChapterEthan stood alone atop Ascend Tower. The night wind carried the scent of metal, and the first drops of rain began to fall.
Mei and the others emerged from the emergency lift. They saw Ethan standing amid the ruins.
"Ethan..." Mei called out.
