Villain transmigration: The doll maker.-Chapter 98:Hoard
Boras finally broke from his group and walked towards me. I could see the fear in his eyes even from afar.
I must have really traumatised him.
"Young master what should we do? From my observations the hoard is massive?"
He asked. Sweat dripped down his face, and his eyes were moving around as he glanced at the forest nervously. His hands twitched violently as he looked around the forest.
We could already hear the signs.
Occasional wild roars cut through the forest a telltale sign from the previously quiet forest. They were moving, and the beasts that were not part of the hoard sensed it.
"What did you see?"
I asked. I needed to roughly understand the situation before moving forward. I was contemplating whether to avoid it entirely or just fight at the edges as we moved forward.
A beast horde is one of the most annoying things. Mother dealt with them occasionally but it seemed the scale had gone up by a hundredfold.
"I think .....they’re running away from something or they’re being commanded. "
He answered hesitantly. This got my attention, not all beasts can command others, just as humans, beasts have hierarchy and the strongest can basically rule over the others.
Only one with intelligence would be able to command such a massive hoard.
"This makes things more complicated..."
I started but a hand touched my shoulder.
"Yes.. the last beast horde was caused by a fire dragon."
Seraph who had walked behind me cut me off mid-sentence. I nodded.
"But that was almost five hundred years ago, this seems unexpected. There hasn’t been any sign of dragons since then. "
"Young master i think she’s right....it might just be a dragon waking up from its sleep. Even its aura could scare most of the beasts away. It’s among the top in the beast rank."
Baros said agreeing with Seraph. I fell into my thoughts. If it’s a dragon that might just spell disasters for us as a whole. No one wants the wrath of a dragon falling on them.
"In the last hoard your kingdom was the most affected yes?"
Seraph said to boras who nodded hesitantly.
"Sadly yes, the dragon breath has made our kingdoms almost uninhabitable. Plants cannot grow properly and just a small area is normal but the royals and nobles have occupied them. This is why most barbarians are traders."
And savages. The kingdom was basically one of the most inhospitable kingdoms on the continent. In simple terms its a kingdom built in the desert.
It had been a warzone but now it seems our kingdom might just be the next barbarians. It seems our family efforts were coming to an end.
"I can’t imagine living there. But it’s good our family intervened before it got more disastrous. "
Seraph bluttered out proudly. I felt like slapping the back of her head like I used to do when we were young. We were supposed to keep our identity a secret, not like it would last, but it didn’t hurt to try.
I was enjoying it.
"Ooh, you’re from the legendary Bloodmoor family!"
Boras shouted his voice echoing in the forest. He pointed a trembling finger between both of us, the excitement evident in his voice.
I felt like breaking that finger.
The barbarians who were minding their own business all stopped and turned to look at us. All of them reacted the same way as Baros but milder.
I suppose that illusion didn’t last.
"You should have known with the red eyes."
I said with a drawn-out tone. I thought he had just ignored it and was just going on with my play.
"Ooh, yes. I thought you used a disguise spell."
He said awkwardly but the admiration in his eyes didn’t disappear. I was enjoying my ancestors’ former glory through them.
"Ooh.. your imagination is impressive"
I didn’t continue after that. I knew questions would start jumping around if I didn’t stir the conversation away.
The Bloodmoor got their ank because they stopped the beast’s invitation from happening.
The reason the barbarian kingdom had become a desert was that it had been the fighting ground for the fire dragon and the first matriarch.
"What should we do young master? The beasts are just too many for us to fight them head-on."
Baros went back to being worrisome. Things were just getting more and more complicated.
"Should we send word to mother?"
Seraph asked. I nodded and turned to luna who had been standing behind me.
"Get the crow."
Luna nodded and walked to our last carriage. She came back a few moments later carrying a letter crow.
I wrote down in summary what was going on before putting it into the small tube at the base of its leg.
The crow had been specially trained and tamed. It knew where it was supposed to go and who to give the letter to.
"Release it."
I said gesturing to Luna. She threw the crow into the air and it took off into the forest heading back home.
That was one problem out of my way.
"Should we turn back young master, we won’t be able to pass through the hoard."
Boras tried to convince me. He had been reluctant to leave lawless city and saw this as a way to go back.
I shook my head.
"We’ll be going forward. We’ll seek shelter as they pass."
I said. I knew it was dangerous but danger comes with benefits. I wanted to see what was commanding these beasts.
"Yes, young master."
Baros said in resignation. He knew not to go against me after the first confrontation.
I was looking forward to this hoard.
"Are you really sure master?"
Jeneviv asked hesitantly. She looked at the dark road ahead of us and swallowed.
"Mmh..You want corpses yes?," She nodded her eyes brightening as she understood where I was going with it, "This will help collect more of them."
I piched her cheek lightly causing her to squint. I leaned in and kissed her before separating from her leaving her a breathless mess.
"Go back to your carriage, we’ll be leaving soon."
I said to her. Everyone else scrambled back in as my gaze swept across the procession.
’Detect’
My magic spread through the forest. Animals running around hiding and the calm behemoths that mainly slept most of the time seemed to be waking.
My powers were unfortunately limited. I couldn’t gauge exactly where the hoard was until we moved forward a little.
I could feel their approach from the thunderous vibrations in the ground and their roars but that was all I had to get closer to get a better understanding of the situation.
The hoard was outside my detection range.
I glanced behind me one last time and got into the carriage. I wanted us to cover as much ground as possible before we could get near the hoard.
"Is this really the right choice lucian? We can go back home and come back later."
Seraph placed her hand on my left thigh as she softly caressed. I could feel the nervousness in her touch.
"What’s there to be scared of?"
I said nonchalantly. Seraph looked at me quietly as though trying to get a feel of what I was doing.
To her i might be doing something impulsive but I couldn’t reassure her otherwise.
It was better to let my actions speak rather than my words.
I covered her warm hand with mine and pulled her deeper into my embrace.
"I know you’re confident in your abilities, I am too but this is too impulsive..... I’m not going to leave you but I want you to know my stance in this as your sister."
She said softly. I could see her belief in me but also the mixture of excessive worry in her eyes.
"I won’t let anything happen to anyone... just trust me I’ll make sure we come out on top like I always do."
I reassured her. Her smile widened and she melted into my side.
"I’ll trust you them."
My detection magic worked as the carriage moved forward into the unknown darkness.
We didn’t stop for our usual rest but moved forward little by little until my magic finally covered half of the beast hoard.
It was much bigger than I had anticipated. Bora’s explanation had downplayed the seriousness. This was going to be a big problem but still manageable.
I opened the window curtain the night cold sweeping into the warm carriage.
"Donovan."
I called out to him as we got closer and closer. We had travelled for eight sandglasses and morning was almost approaching.
"Yes, master?"
"Can you call for Baros i need him to stop going forward. "
Our carriage moved out of the procession and Donovan jumped down as the horse slowed down.
I turned my attention back to Seraph who was still leaning against me fully asleep despite complaining about the hoard.
"Seraph, wake up we need to talk."
I shook her awake despite her groans of protest.
