Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 213 - 207 Shen Wang
"Hurry, save him!"
"Is there a doctor?"
The two men who ran down from the mountain obviously didn’t know that a TV station was recording a program here today. When they reached the village committee entrance, they intended to go straight to the clinic but were startled by the TV station’s van parked there and the bustling courtyard.
These two men weren’t strangers. In fact, Wang Jian knew them. He remembered them clearly: Li Long and Zhao Hu. They were the two bullies who had brought an old man to mooch off the healthcare system during the first day of the free clinic. Back then, the pair had almost caused a misunderstanding that could have led to Ren Yu’s kidnapping. In the end, not only did Wang Jian not send them to the police, but he also gave them a formula to treat their livers, which could be considered a good deed.
Unexpectedly, not long after, here they were again, this time covered in blood.
They were stopped at the entrance by a member of the documentary crew. The TV station had already decided that, as a rule, they would try to prevent the village doctor from treating victims of major accidents. It wasn’t a large hospital, after all. If something went wrong, even if it was edited out of the final documentary, word could get out and cause trouble for the station.
"Wait, you two are..." Angel had already stepped out of the van, blocking their path. As she got closer, she took in their condition. Despite having been stopped, blood was still dripping from Li Long and Zhao Hu, staining the ground.
This was the first time Angel had seen such a scene. "I’ll call an ambulance for you!" she exclaimed. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"An ambulance?" Li Long cut her off. "What are you talking about? Isn’t Doctor Wang here? Why would we need an ambulance?"
Ever since following Wang Jian’s advice, he and Zhao Hu had been on a regimen for their livers and could feel their health steadily improving; even their complexions had returned to normal. Now that they were at the clinic’s door, why would they take the long way around and wait for an ambulance? In Zhao Hu’s condition, he’d probably be dead before it even arrived.
"This is just a small clinic, and your injuries are too severe," Angel said, her face full of genuine worry. She was already on her walkie-talkie, telling a colleague to contact the City Hospital. Only after receiving confirmation that the call had been made did she breathe a small sigh of relief. "If you stay here, you’ll bleed to death..."
"Of course I know that..." Li Long’s tone was impatient. If he hadn’t seen the woman get out of the TV station’s van, he would have shoved her aside. But as it was, he had to restrain himself. "But there’s a doctor right behind you," he said. "Shouldn’t you step aside and at least let Doctor Wang take a look at us?"
"Ah..." Angel froze, then realized she had overreacted. "Yes, yes, you’re right," she said quickly.
"Come on, this way."
Angel quickly led the two men into the courtyard. The people there instinctively cleared a path. The clinic door swung open, and Wang Jian was already standing in the doorway.
"It’s you?" Wang Jian recognized them at a glance. He walked straight up to them, then shot a look at Angel.
He had heard their entire exchange. He knew Angel meant well, but he was still annoyed. He had made it clear that no one was to interfere with his work. Her actions were a clear violation of their agreement. It had only been one day, and she was already causing problems. It would be a miracle if he wasn’t in a bad mood.
Wang Jian glared at Angel before turning to examine the two men.
A single glance was enough for his brow to furrow. "What have you two been doing? This wound is from an animal."
"An animal?" The villagers present weren’t fools. Having grown up in the mountains, they all knew what it took to get injured by an animal.
In fact, the only reason Wang Jian and Cai Qiong had encountered a wild beast last time was that they had ventured into an unfrequented part of the deep forest. Normal people didn’t go that deep. The only ones who did were poachers or people with other motives.
Sensing Wang Jian’s suspicion, Li Long immediately explained, "It’s all my fault that Zhao Hu got hurt."
As he spoke, he pulled a large, radish-like object from his backpack. It was about the length and thickness of a forearm, covered in numerous rootlets, and the folds on its surface eerily resembled a human face. The object was stained with blood, but despite that, the moment Li Long revealed it, a potent medicinal aroma filled the air.
"A Ginseng King?"
"No way!"
"How can a ginseng be that huge?"
Not only had the villagers never seen such a thing, but neither had Wang Jian.
Without hesitation, he led the two men into the examination room and promptly shut the door. Angel had intended to follow, but Wang Jian had no intention of indulging her. He didn’t want to see her right now.
The door nearly hit Angel in the nose. She was about to erupt in anger when she heard Wang Jian’s voice from inside. "If you want to keep filming this documentary, don’t interfere with my treatment. Let me know when the ambulance arrives."
Her face flushed red as she finally understood his earlier glare. A mix of shame and anger churned within her. She clenched her fists but managed to restrain herself.
Angel turned and walked away. So what if he won’t let me in? Does he think I can’t see what’s happening just because I’m outside? He’s forgetting about the cameras inside, recording everything from every angle. Even if he decided to secretly pick his nose, he couldn’t escape the lenses.
「...」
Inside, ignoring the commotion from the villagers outside, Li Long glanced at Wang Jian and continued his story. "I owed someone a favor. He found me recently and said that if I could find this thing in the deep mountains, it would save his life. He even gave me an old map, something like a treasure map. Because we had a clear target, I figured we could get in and out quickly. I didn’t think our luck would be so bad that we’d actually run into a wild beast. That’s why Zhao Hu and I went into the deep mountains..."
Li Long didn’t finish, but Wang Jian could already guess the rest. It was just a case of bad luck, running head-on into a wild beast.
Wang Jian laid Zhao Hu on the operating table and cut away the clothes around the wound, finally getting a clear look at the injury.
"Did you run into a bear?"
My god. The wound was deep enough to expose bone. The bleeding had stopped, which meant Li Long must have performed first aid outside. But several of Zhao Hu’s ribs were also broken. Wang Jian subconsciously glanced at the nearby camera. This part will definitely need to be blurred out. Zhao Hu was incredibly lucky. Otherwise, a broken rib could easily have pierced his heart or a major artery on the way down the mountain. He would have bled to death long before reaching the clinic.
Moreover, Wang Jian could feel a potent energy within Zhao Hu’s body—one that wasn’t his own but had come from an external source. Thinking of the Ginseng King, Wang Jian knew Li Long must have secretly given Zhao Hu one of its rootlets.
No wonder they say he’s lucky... Carrying him down the mountain must have taken at least an hour or two. With that much blood loss, he would have gone into shock long ago if not for the Ginseng King sustaining him.
But Zhao Hu’s condition was still critical. Wang Jian called his name several times, but there was no response.
"Do you know Zhao Hu’s blood type?" Wang Jian asked. "When the ambulance gets here, make sure to tell them. It will help them with the transfusion. For now, I’m going to stabilize him. We can discuss the rest later."
"Oh, and let me use the Ginseng King," Wang Jian said, holding out his hand. Li Long handed it over without hesitation.
Wang Jian wasted no time, pinching off a very short rootlet.
Li Long assumed Wang Jian was going to feed it to Zhao Hu, but he froze in astonishment at what happened next. Wang Jian had no intention of letting him eat it.
Instead, Wang Jian cupped the rootlet between his palms and held his hands over Zhao Hu’s wound. A moment later, a viscous liquid trickled from between his fingers and dripped onto the injury. Strangely, the liquid seemed to melt into Zhao Hu’s flesh and blood, vanishing in an instant as if it had been an illusion.
Only then did Li Long notice that the rootlet in Wang Jian’s hands had become as dry and brittle as straw. Wang Jian tossed it aside like trash. Curious, Li Long picked it up and sniffed it. The medicinal fragrance was completely gone, and it felt no different from a piece of dry straw.
Legends from ancient times told of divine medicines that could regenerate flesh and blood. While such tales were greatly exaggerated, they spoke to the miraculous effects of certain herbs. This Ginseng King was a perfect example. Wang Jian had directly extracted all the energy from within it and infused it into Zhao Hu’s body.
The next step was to help Zhao Hu assimilate this energy, replenishing what he had lost from the massive blood loss. It was, in essence, a life-saving measure.
Wang Jian used his own qi to circulate the energy in Zhao Hu’s body. By the time he was finished, Zhao Hu’s complexion had improved significantly, and the light had returned to his eyes. When Wang Jian waved a hand in front of his face, Zhao Hu spoke.
"I... where... where am I?"
