Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 201 - 195 Li Dayu’s Concerns
After seeing off a wave of patients, Wang Jian delegated the tidying up to Chairman Kang and was about to take a break when Li Dayu slipped in furtively, gesturing for him to come outside. It was the first time Wang Jian had ever seen him look so secretive and worried.
"What’s the matter?" Wang Jian asked, taking off his white coat and following Li Dayu to the door. "This is the first time I’ve seen you looking like this, Village Chief."
"Hah, I’ve got something important to ask you," said Li Dayu. His relationship with Wang Jian was improving daily.
The two of them were tied at the hip now. Thanks to Wang Jian, Li Dayu had become a well-known figure in the surrounding villages. For a village chief to reach this stage was no easy feat.
Li Dayu pulled Wang Jian aside, seemingly afraid of being seen. Curious, Wang Jian listened as Li Dayu whispered, "Something’s happened with the Cai family. You know about it, right?"
"What?" Wang Jian glanced at Li Dayu, waiting for him to continue.
Li Dayu wouldn’t be asking this if he didn’t already know something.
"I heard Chairman Cai has died." Li Dayu checked his surroundings, then leaned in closer to Wang Jian. "It doesn’t have anything to do with our clinic, does it?"
"Hmm?"
So that was his concern. But since when had the clinic become "ours"? Wang Jian instantly understood Li Dayu’s mentality. The village chief had finally accepted this village clinic completely. In the past, he must have only reluctantly handed over this village committee asset for Wang Jian to open a clinic because of his ties to the Cai family. Now, the reputations of the village clinic and the village itself were intertwined, rising and falling together. Li Dayu must have realized this, which was why he had come to ask about it so promptly.
"Didn’t you hear?" Seeing Wang Jian’s puzzled expression, Li Dayu thought he was unaware and explained, "I heard it from my son. I thought you already knew."
"You know," Li Dayu explained in a low voice, "my son does business with the Cai family, so he hears insider news."
"I heard the Cai family is suppressing the news. Chairman Cai has actually passed away, but they’re worried about the impact on the company, so they’ve kept it under wraps."
"Wasn’t Chairman Cai here for treatment yesterday? Where is he now?"
As Li Dayu spoke, he watched Wang Jian’s expression for any changes, but to his disappointment, he couldn’t find any crack in Wang Jian’s composure.
"Is he really dead?" Li Dayu pressed again, feeling he had no other choice.
Only then did Wang Jian nod slightly and say nonchalantly, "Yes. What about it?"
"You’re too calm." Li Dayu lit a cigarette and started walking slowly with Wang Jian toward the outskirts of the village. He was clearly discussing a serious matter, yet Wang Jian’s reaction was far too composed, giving Li Dayu the feeling that the eunuchs were more anxious than the emperor.
After taking a drag, Li Dayu glanced back at the village to make sure no one was watching them before continuing, "If Chairman Cai died at our clinic, that would be a huge problem."
"So that’s what you’re worried about?" Wang Jian asked, as if he’d just realized it.
Li Dayu offered a cigarette to Wang Jian, who waved it away and didn’t forget to add a comment. "Village Chief, if you keep smoking, you’re at risk of developing pneumonia."
Hearing this, Li Dayu hurriedly pulled the cigarette from his lips. He stared at the cigarette, which he had only taken a single puff of, and a trace of regret flashed across his face. "Why didn’t you say so sooner?"
"If you’d told me earlier, I wouldn’t have even lit it," Li Dayu said, tossing the cigarette to the ground and stomping it out.
He then returned to the topic at hand. "Of course I’m worried about this. If Chairman Cai died at our clinic and the news broke, media outlets across the country would know about it by the next day."
Li Dayu sighed at Wang Jian, his worry evident. "If your clinic becomes infamous because of this, you’ll probably have to shut down. You tell me, shouldn’t I be worried?"
Sorrow was written all over his face, a stark contrast to Wang Jian’s calm demeanor. It was as if Li Dayu owned the clinic, not Wang Jian.
"Don’t worry," said Wang Jian. Knowing the truth, he wasn’t concerned, but he couldn’t tell Li Dayu outright and could only reassure him. "I’m a doctor. Have you ever met a doctor who never loses a patient? It was a heart condition, and a very severe one. It’s not unusual for someone to die from that."
Seeing his logical and matter-of-fact manner, Li Dayu was genuinely taken aback for a moment.
"If only it were as simple as you make it sound," Li Dayu said with an ironic laugh. "The reason medical disputes get so ugly is that there aren’t enough rational people in this world."
These words from Li Dayu actually made Wang Jian see him in a new light. He hadn’t expected this old village chief, who was always thinking about making the village rich, to be capable of such an insight.
After speaking, Li Dayu realized the key point: Wang Jian hadn’t denied his question.
Good grief, his guess had been right after all.
Just yesterday afternoon, he had personally seen the Cai family members arrive, even helping to maintain order. He had noticed something at the time—the Cai family members didn’t look well, so he paid extra attention.
He also remembered that along with the Cai children, there had been several unfamiliar faces he’d never seen before.
But when those people left, some were clearly smiling.
It was because of this that he had felt confident enough to leave without staying at the village committee building the whole time.
He had also trusted Wang Jian’s medical skills too much. Recently, no matter how serious the illness, Wang Jian had handled it with ease. This led him to subconsciously believe that with Wang Jian around, no accidents would happen.
"He really died here?" Li Dayu’s face fell. "What are we going to do now? Did Mr. Cai blame you?"
Wang Jian knew he was referring to Cai Wenji, so he shook his head.
I don’t want to get too involved in this. The Cai family’s issues will probably be resolved soon enough. With minds like Cai Xing’s and his son’s, sorting out their family’s internal affairs won’t take long. A week will be enough. Once Cai Xing reappears in public, all the things Li Dayu is worried about will cease to be problems. Even if reporters learn of Cai Xing’s death ahead of time, everything will be turned around the moment Cai Xing reappears. That being the case, what is there to worry about? I might as well use this time to teach Chairman Kang more. Maybe he’ll have a sudden awakening. That would be much better than fussing over this.
But Wang Jian couldn’t explain too much. He could only pat Li Dayu’s arm and say, "Uncle Li, our clinic isn’t going to shut down, and nothing is going to happen to me. You can rest easy. We’ll just keep on living as we always have."
That was all he could say. Whether Li Dayu could read between the lines was up to him.
With that, Wang Jian walked back, no longer dwelling on the matter with Li Dayu.
Seeing him leave, Li Dayu fished another cigarette from his pocket. He intended to light it for a smoke, but his lighter sparked fruitlessly and refused to catch.
Li Dayu could only curse under his breath before putting the cigarette away.
Wang Jian has a point. I’m not going to worry about it. If Wang Jian isn’t worried, why should I be?
With that thought, a weight lifted from Li Dayu’s chest. He started for home with his usual swagger, patting his beer belly and humming a little tune.
Forget the clinic. I’ll just go home and watch some TV. Now that’s the life.
"Darling, fly slowly, be careful of the thorny roses ahead..."
"Darling, you..."

While Wang Jian and the others were busy, the plan set in motion by Cai Xing and his son was already underway.
The news of Cai Xing’s death threw the Cai Group headquarters into chaos. It was because of this turmoil that rumors about his death began to spread throughout the company.
