Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 197 - 192 An Ordinary Day
Cai Xing’s "death" had been quick, and his "resurrection" was just as fast.
Even after Cai Qiong came to, it took her a while to regain her senses. Seeing her dazed look, Cai Xing and Wang Jian almost thought she was going to faint again. Fortunately, Cai Qiong eventually recovered. "Dad, this isn’t a dream, is it?"
Once the young woman came to her senses, she uttered only that single sentence before bursting into tears in Cai Xing’s arms. Seeing this, it was clear her usual carefree and indifferent attitude was just a façade.
As a father, Cai Xing hadn’t felt the sensation of embracing his daughter in many years, a feeling only those who’ve raised children can understand. When children are young, they cling to you as if you’re their whole world. As they grow up, they begin to form their own opinions, occasionally throwing tantrums and no longer being so easily coaxed. Once they become even more independent adults, they hardly engage in any intimate communication with their parents.
At such times, parents feel both gratified and sad.
If it weren’t for this opportunity to feign death, getting Cai Qiong to hug him voluntarily would have been as hard as making the sun rise from the west. It would have been worth it even if I had truly died. Overcome with emotion, Cai Xing’s eyes reddened instantly.
The father and daughter held each other close. This was a scene Wang Jian naturally wouldn’t interfere with. He quietly backed out, leaving the room to them.
They had already taken advantage of the quiet to return to the Wang family home. With two more people in the house, we’re really short on rooms, Wang Jian thought, the desire to buy a new house growing ever stronger.
When he reached the living room, Chairman Kang and Xu Qian were watching television. Or rather, Chairman Kang was on his phone while Xu Qian watched by herself. Even just watching from the side, he could feel the awkwardness filling the spacious living room.
"You’re back?" Seeing Wang Jian, Xu Qian turned down the TV volume with the remote and asked, "How’s Cai Qiong?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Even Chairman Kang put down his phone and looked over at Wang Jian.
Wang Jian casually sat down on the sofa before speaking. "Nothing serious. She’s awake and having a heart-to-heart with her dad. I felt awkward being there, so I came down."
Xu Qian was still unaware of what had happened with the Cai Family, so she asked a few more questions. Wang Jian had no intention of hiding anything; after all, with a very much alive Cai Xing staying there, it was impossible to keep it a secret.
After hearing from Wang Jian and Chairman Kang about the day’s events at the clinic, Xu Qian felt like she had just watched a TV drama. Dramas these days aren’t this exciting. They’re all about mother-in-law and daughter-in-law conflicts. Where’s the corporate warfare and backstabbing? They don’t even let them film palace intrigue dramas anymore.
Thus, Xu Qian listened with keen interest, anticipating a major shake-up at the Cai Group. Since it had nothing to do with her, she could just hang back and enjoy the gossip.
"Poor Cai Qiong," Xu Qian finally concluded, then went to get dinner started. They were eating late today, having spent so much time at the clinic because of the Cai family’s affairs.
Watching Xu Qian’s departing figure, Wang Jian felt a tingling anticipation. Even though we have guests tonight, this is the perfect opportunity. Both the Cais and Chairman Kang are mentally and emotionally drained, so they’ll definitely sleep soundly.
After dinner, Wang Jian even gave them a complimentary qi-circulating head massage, which nearly put them to sleep on the spot. As soon as he finished, they each went to their rooms. With Wang Jian’s keen hearing, it wasn’t long before he heard snoring.
He had purposely saved Xu Qian for last for an obvious reason.
Xu Qian was no fool; she had long seen through his intentions. But today, the feelings seemed mutual, so she tacitly consented. Besides, Wang Jian’s skill was clearly extraordinary, and she had been feeling a bit tired lately, giving her a perfectly justifiable reason to enjoy it.
"Actually, head massages require a lot of finesse." With just the two of them left in the living room, Wang Jian had no reservations. He began the massage with a slightly firmer touch, but the pressure was just right, making her feel instantly more alert as a wave of comfort washed over her. It felt as if her blood was circulating more freely.
He spoke in a normal tone, since he was only discussing proper techniques. "The head has many key areas, especially around the cervical spine, so you can’t use too much force. If you press the wrong spot, it could even cause paralysis. While it’s fine to get a back rub somewhere, the neck is too fragile. You should avoid those massage parlors that just use brute force—the ones that think harder is better."
"Based on what you’re saying," Xu Qian said, finding his logic sound, "it sounds like all the massage parlors out there are dangerous."
Isn’t that the truth? Those masseurs all seem to use excessive force, pushing hard no matter the body part. They aren’t satisfied until you’re crying out in pain, and then they tell you that pain means it’s working. What kind of logic is that? Pain means there’s a problem. The more it hurts, the less force you should apply. Otherwise, you aren’t promoting circulation; you’ll end up with bruises where there weren’t any to begin with. As for the feeling of relaxation afterward? That’s just a false sense of security after being ’beaten,’ a form of self-deception.
Xu Qian asked, "So how is your technique different? I have to admit, this is really comfortable. The occasional slight sting is so faint it’s like an illusion. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have even felt it."
"Right? I’m not lying," Wang Jian laughed, pleased he could make her so comfortable. Listening to her occasionally deepening breaths was a form of ASMR-like enjoyment for him as well. "My techniques are similar to theirs, but the essence is different."
Of course, it was different. He was using qi. He had told Xu Qian about this from the start and had even tried to teach her Tai Chi for health. Unfortunately, Xu Qian couldn’t feel the qi at all and ended up just practicing Tai Chi for fitness and to cultivate her temperament.
But now, Wang Jian’s massage wasn’t limited to just her head. Massaging his sister-in-law was a completely different matter. He shifted his focus, slowly beginning to work on the acupoints on her shoulders and back.
"AH!"
Pressing on a meridian point was still a bit painful, even with gentle qi.
Xu Qian hadn’t expected it and let out a soft cry. She quickly recovered her composure. Although it hurt, the sensation was much lighter than what the masseurs at the parlors did. The pain was immediately followed by a gentle warmth that pooled in the area, transforming the previously sore spot into a sea of gentle comfort. The pain was gone, leaving only pleasure.
Under this stimulation of alternating pain and comfort, the massage truly became an indulgence.
With her eyes closed and a relaxed expression, Xu Qian asked, "Your qi feels different than before. Have you improved again?"
She had experienced this treatment when Wang Jian first returned. Now, trying it again more than two months later, she noticed a difference. This time, the sensation was distinctly more comfortable and refined. Although she couldn’t explain how, it was like her own cooking, where her control over the heat had become more meticulous.
"Mhm." Wang Jian glanced at Xu Qian in surprise, not expecting his sister-in-law to be so perceptive. "I’ve made some progress."
After speaking, Wang Jian changed his approach, guiding his qi toward several highly sensitive acupoints.
Xu Qian, who had her eyes closed, felt the warm current shift. Her eyes immediately shot open wide. She wanted to cry out, but she reacted quickly enough to cover her mouth. Even so, a muffled sound escaped, along with a playful reproach.
"What do you think you’re doing?" she whispered, grabbing his large hand. Her eyes darted toward the upstairs guest rooms, terrified that someone might suddenly appear on the landing.
Thankfully, there was no one in sight. Xu Qian breathed a sigh of relief, released his hand, and shot him a glare. "We have guests. Weren’t you afraid I’d scream and they’d hear you pulling a stunt like that?"
"It’s fine," Wang Jian smiled, gesturing toward the guest rooms. "I heard them. They’re fast asleep. Thanks to my massage, they’re sleeping very soundly. Ordinary sounds won’t wake them."
Xu Qian finally relaxed, though she didn’t forget to give Wang Jian one last glare. Only then did she realize that he had planned this all along. Although she’d been open to getting closer to him, she hadn’t expected him to get mischievous during the massage. Still, this was better. Now she could relax and enjoy it without being on edge.
