Video Game Tycoon in Tokyo-Chapter 918: I Thought of Something
Chapter 918 - I Thought of Something
"Takayuki, you really need to rest. Didn't you say this game would take years to develop? Then maybe you don't have to rush to realize everything all at once."
It was late at night. At home, Takayuki lay staring silently at the ceiling, his mind still churning through the technical challenges of developing Cyberpunk 2077.
Beside him, Ayano Tsukino finally couldn't hold back her concern and gently encouraged him.
"Tomorrow I'll work with the team again on the tech bottlenecks. We'll try our best to reach the scale you're aiming for."
Takayuki shook his head. "With our current capabilities, it's not enough. We need some kind of breakthrough—something truly different."
Ayano offered, "Maybe we could try modular programming. That might help save resources."
"It'd help—to a degree. But it won't solve the root problem."
Then, Takayuki smiled at her and said, "Alright. Let's sleep. Maybe I really am asking for too much. I've taken too big a step this time."
Ayano looked at him, hesitated, then bit her lip and said, "I could ask students from Stanford, MIT, and a few other universities to help research this. It'd be a great academic topic. These schools love when I propose real-world research projects."
...
"That's a good idea. Maybe more minds will make a difference," Takayuki nodded, clearly supportive.
But deep down, it wasn't just approval—it was that same burning desire.
A stubborn obsession.
Trying to make a game too rich and complex... could become a kind of torment.
For both players and developers.
Maybe something like Red Dead Redemption 2 was already enough. Or just a notch beyond that.
But what he was attempting... was multiplying that by several levels. The difficulty was immense.
Eventually, though, he drifted into the deepest sleep he'd had since arriving in this world.
It was clear his mind had been pushed to its limits. Not even the hidden "cheat" of enhanced stamina from his transmigration buff could keep up anymore.
And as he sank into sleep, Takayuki found himself dreaming—of actually being inside the world of Cyberpunk.
In that world, legends abounded.
But in Night City, no legends live forever.
Everyone, no matter how powerful, would eventually be crushed by the unstoppable force of capital.
That was the core of the game's world: a blend of despair... and defiant hope.
Takayuki just wanted to build a world that real.
In his dream, he walked through places he knew so well:
The Afterlife bar.
V's apartment.
The unique homes tied to each of V's backstories.
And of course, the streets filled with diverse people.
Each one felt real.
They weren't NPCs. They were residents of Night City.
Some were corporate slaves—willing to sell their souls to survive in this brutal metropolis.
Others lived off the grid, out in the wastes, clinging to their freedom in their own way.
Beneath the city lived the cyberpsychos—deranged, bloodthirsty killers who'd lost all grip on humanity.
Takayuki walked through it all like a spectator.
How could he create a world this real?
He truly believed in a single phrase:
Game developers are the creators of worlds.
And once a world is created, the creator should do everything possible to make it feel alive—so alive it even shocks its own creator.
But how do you do that?
Piling on more code? That wasn't it.
He wanted each person in the game to feel like they had a soul.
Like they had intelligence.
The ability to make decisions—even if simple ones.
Intelligence...
Intelligence...
Takayuki suddenly opened his eyes.

Sunlight poured across his body. It was clearly noon.
Ayano was no longer beside him—she must've already gone to the office.
When had she left?
Had she tried to wake him? Or had she simply seen how exhausted he was and decided to let him rest?
Either way, he felt more refreshed than ever—despite the length and intensity of that dream.
But it was worth it.
Because in that dream... he'd found an answer.
A method that already had a rough form in his old world.
Something he'd completely forgotten.
Something that had already begun transforming other industries—and was just starting to show potential in gaming.
His eyes lit up with an intensity unseen before.
The next moment, Takayuki practically launched out of bed. If anyone had seen it, they would've been startled.
Three minutes later, he burst out the front door, jumped in his car, and sped toward the company.
"Listen, today we're going to modularize the NPC logic scripts. My idea is that these logic modules will operate as separate systems. When the player is moving through the city, only some modules will be called in real-time—this way, idle scripts stay isolated and don't interfere with the core system. That should cut down on load and prevent bugs."
Inside the Fourth Development Division of Gamestar Electronic Entertainment, the team was listening to Ayano Tsukino lead a new round of development tasks.
And then—Takayuki burst in.
"I've got it! I've finally figured out how to solve the problem of bloated code!"
Since arriving in this world, Takayuki had only been this excited three times.
The first was when he and Airi Hayasawa got the Famicom prototype running and launched Super Mario Bros.
The second was at the first Gamestar Carnival, when he stood before thousands of players, all looking at him with awe.
And the third... was now.
"Have you guys ever heard of artificial intelligence—AI?"
