Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)-Chapter 158: Devil in Human Skin
Chapter 158: Devil in Human Skin
The Divine Emperor’s voice echoed in his mind. "There is one coming."
Xiang Yu peeked around the corner and saw a man standing by the fence, a cigarette glowing in the darkness. The man’s walkie-talkie crackled to life, and Xiang Yu knew he needed to get his hands on it to stay a step ahead. With the man’s attention elsewhere, Xiang Yu moved like a shadow, his eyes fierce and predatory. As the man zipped up his pants, Xiang Yu struck, snapping his neck with ease. He caught the body before it fell, dragging it to a nearby dumpster and tossing it in.
He took the walkie-talkie and asked the Divine Emperor in his mind, "What is the greatest height advantage?"
"In ten steps, take a left and then a right," the Divine Emperor instructed.
Xiang Yu followed the directions, climbing up a stack of shipping containers. He slung the duffle bag over his head, carrying it like a backpack. Once perched atop the rusty shipping container he set up the sniper rifle, lying flat.
He waited patiently, his eyes scanning the scene below like a hawk surveying its territory. Their security was lax, a testament to the Die clan’s arrogance. They didn’t expect anyone to dare attack them. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Men clad in black lingered around two SUVs and a haulage truck, completely unaware of the danger lurking above. Xiang Yu’s gaze was steady, his mind focused. He was ready to strike at the opportune time.
Across the yard, an SUV pulled up with a low growl, its engine echoing ominously against the corrugated metal structures surrounding them. The driver’s door swung open first. Out stepped a man sporting a tempered cut with his sleeves rolled up to reveal vibrant tattoos across his forearms. A cigarette dangled precariously between his lips as he surveyed his surroundings.
"What’s taking so long?" he barked at one of the men who flinched under his scrutiny. "You should have been driving back already! The boss wants to inspect the new goods."
"Sorry, Old Li," stammered an older man, glancing nervously at two other men in suits who sauntered toward them with casual arrogance. "There was a delay."
Old Li took a long drag from his cigarette, letting smoke curl into tendrils before exhaling sharply. "Hurry up." His voice dripped with impatience and menace.
Xiang Yu smirked as he lay there watching them. He could feel the tension coil around him like barbed wire. He could feel it thrumming beneath the surface of his skin and an electric anticipation pulsing through him.
Ten minutes later, two massive shipping containers were craned down onto a waiting haulage truck amid muffled conversations and nervous glances exchanged between men who seemed scared of the men in tailored suits. Just as they settled into place with deep metallic thuds, Xiang Yu’s finger tightened on the trigger of his rifle.
A single shot rang out, a sharp crack cutting through their chatter and Old Li dropped instantly, blood splattering across cold steel like paint on canvas. Chaos erupted immediately, men scrambled for cover behind containers while shock painted their faces pale and wide-eyed.
"Ha! This seems fun," Xiang Yu chuckled darkly to himself before unleashing three more shots into unsuspecting targets. Each bullet found its mark. A symphony of violence played against the discordant backdrop of panic and confusion.
As screams echoed through the night air, one young man panicked beside the older man, his face twisted in fear and disbelief.
"Old Su, what do we do?" he whimpered desperately.
Old Su’s instincts kicked in hard, survival above all else dictated every action now. With brutal pragmatism etched onto his face, he kicked the young man into the open space just as another shot rang out, taking him down without hesitation but it inevitably revealed Xiang Yu’s general direction to Old Su.
Xiang Yu sneered as he heard them on the walkie-talkie, mentioning his position. One by one, he gunned them down as they approached. When a bullet struck the container, he was on, he grabbed a grenade from his duffle bag and flung it at them. An explosion rocked the area, followed by another.
Sweat beaded on Old Su’s brow as he remained hidden behind the shipping containers while bullets whizzed past him like angry hornets buzzing for vengeance against their intruder. He could hear frantic voices over walkie-talkies calling for reinforcements but it wouldn’t help now. He was only one man.
With each blast that shook ground beneath him, Old Su’s resolve began to falter when he realised he was the only one remaining. He remained concealed behind the truck while sweat dripped down his forehead and his palms turned clammy. With his trembling fingers he took out his phone gripping it tightly like it was his last hope.
He dialed frantically for backup: "Boss—we are under attack!" But even before he finished speaking those words laced with dread and urgency, a cold steel pressed firmly against his temple silenced him completely instead.
Xiang Yu leaned closer. There was no need for introductions or pleasantries. There stood the predator standing poised above prey that had been rendered utterly helpless by fear.
"Hello," came Xiang Yu’s voice sending a tremor through Old Su’s body.
The older man dropped the phone, trembling in fear. The voice on the other end kept saying, "Hello, hello, Old Su?" Xiang Yu stomped on the phone, crushing it underfoot. Old Su tried to run, but Xiang Yu grabbed him by the back collar, dragging him to the containers with a gun pressed to the back of his head. Old Su’s legs trembled, suppressed by Xiang Yu’s overwhelming aura. He wasn’t a spiritual person, but he felt this man was like a devil in human skin.
Xiang Yu pressed him against the container. "Open it!"
The older man was too terrified that he didn’t immediately respond. "Open it, or I will make your death painful," hissed Xiang Yu pressing him harder.
Old Su didn’t dare defy him—not now—not ever. With shaky hands he grasped the keys. His trembling fingers finally managed to unlock the container doors revealing a horrible scene.
Inside were emaciated people, huddled in fear. They had been given just enough food and water to survive, but their condition was far from pleasant. Xiang Yu was extremely angry. He took Old Su away, and soon two gunshots rang out, making the people in the container tremble and whimper.
Xiang Yu grabbed the keys and opened the next container. His fingers trembled a little worried about the twins after seeing the state of the other people in the first container. As soon as he pulled the container open he heard, "Master!"
