Vampire's Veil Of Obsession-Chapter 44: Slept Together
Chapter 44 - Slept Together
Zethan's expression darkened with displeasure as he turned to Lilia. His demeanor soon shifted to an unnervingly calm one.
She had known Zethan for some time now, and she could tell that when he became this calm, it was never a good sign.
"Hmm, very unlikely of you to believe such baseless rumors. So tell me, where did you hear that? Was it last night?" Zethan said, his eyes locking onto hers, almost as if searching for a weakness.
Lilia stilled, turning to him as she spoke as if she hadn't heard what he just said, her voice laced with a nonchalance she didn't truly feel. "Who knows if she really has your child?"
The words came out colder than she intended, but they were her only defense in that moment. If Zethan was trying to rattle her, it wasn't going to be that easy. Her chest tightened, and yet, she forced herself to stand her ground, meeting his gaze.
Zethan grinned, the expression widening as he leaned in closer to her. He gently lifted her chin, his face now mere inches from hers. Lilia's breath caught in her throat, her heartbeat quickening in response. His proximity was disarming, yet she refused to show any weakness.
"So tell me, Loris... what if she's carrying my child?" His words hung in the air, each one sinking into her chest like a weight.
Her chest tightened further. The thought of Zethan looking at another woman, let alone touching her, felt like a betrayal. Lilia couldn't stop the surge of jealousy that rose within her, nor the pang of fear that twisted in her stomach. The very thought of him sharing something so intimate with someone else... It hurt more than she wanted to admit.
"Mr. Zethan, if you have a child with another woman, then marrying me isn't really necessary," she said, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. She knew she had to say it. She couldn't let him toy with her emotions, no matter how much it hurt. "After all, there's a way out of the engagement. I won't become a second wife or a mistress to any man—never in this life or the next."
Zethan's grin widened at her words, though the smile didn't reach his eyes. He spoke again, his voice a low hum, "So you..." He trailed off, as though trying to assess her reaction.
He leaned back slightly, his posture now more relaxed, though his tone shifted into something colder, more amused. "Exactly. Those are just baseless rumors. To think you think so lowly of me," he chuckled. "But you're right on one thing—I'm not inexperienced."
Lowly of him... What did that even mean?
Before she could dwell on it further, Zethan continued, not allowing her to escape the moment.
"Do you really believe that?" he asked, his voice sharp. "Do you really think I would lower myself to such things? Think again."
Of course, the unmistakable displeasure in her eyes did not go unnoticed by Zethan, who seemed to take some twisted pleasure in it. His gaze lingered for a moment, and Lilia found herself fighting the urge to look away.
"Inexperienced? So... do you mean that you and... you and... you and Miss Ava already slept with each other?" The words slipped from her mouth before she could stop them. As soon as they left her lips, she felt the sting of regret, realizing what she had just implied. The question was crude, and worse, it was loaded with meaning she wasn't sure she wanted to understand. She realized she had crossed the line.
She had just asked a question that no one should ever ask. Her face flushed, embarrassment flooding her at the realization. Her hands trembled slightly, but she tried her best to maintain her composure, even as panic surged through her chest.
Zethan turned still, his sharp gaze locking onto her. It was as though time itself had frozen. His expression remained unreadable, but Lilia couldn't shake the feeling that she had just made a terrible mistake.
Oh goodness, what had she done?
Panic surged through her, and in a desperate attempt to recover, Lilia quickly tried to rephrase her question, her words tumbling out in a rush. "I didn't mean to—" She stopped herself, swallowing hard. Then, with forced calm, she spoke again, her tone firm but measured, "Please, I'd like to watch the sparring without any interruptions."
'Why had he been silent for so long? Did that silence mean that he had...?'
Her thoughts spiraled, but she quickly dismissed them, shifting her gaze back to the two men on the sparring field. Zethan's words still hung in the air, too heavy to ignore. But before she could think any further, Zethan stood abruptly, his actions unexpected and swift. He began walking toward the sparring field, leaving Lilia momentarily stunned.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. What was going on? Why was he suddenly heading there?
'What was he up to now?'
Lilia felt a wave of frustration rise within her as she watched him move. Why did he always have to do things according to him? It was as though he enjoyed keeping her on edge, never allowing her to fully understand his actions.
Zethan finally stepped into the sparring area, and only then did Lilia realize that the blonde-haired man had been the one losing so far, while the black-haired man had emerged victorious. The realization hit her like a cold splash of water. She hadn't been paying attention to the match at all, too distracted by Zethan's words and actions.
Without a word, Zethan pointed at the blonde-haired man, signaling for him to leave. Without hesitation, the man bowed respectfully and departed, leaving only the black-haired fighter standing.
Lilia was still processing everything when Zethan turned toward her. A slow grin spread across his face, and Lilia couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine.
There was something unsettling about his expression—that grin, something she couldn't quite place. It was as though he was playing some twisted game, and she was part of it.
Just as he was about to speak, Lucas suddenly arrived out of nowhere, interrupting whatever it was Zethan had planned to say.
Before Lucas could fully approach, Zitan turned to him and said, "Pick up the sword."

Lucas hesitated briefly, confusion flashing across his face. It was clear that he had no idea what his boss was up to. After a moment, he picked up the swords. Then, without missing a beat, Zethan gestured toward the black-haired man, silently instructing Lucas to hand him a sword as well.
Lucas scratched the back of his head, his confusion deepening. What was his boss playing at? Was he trying to impress Miss Lilia, who was still sitting there watching him? Or was this something else entirely?
Lilia, too, was puzzled by the turn of events. Was Zethan really making Lucas and the other man spar against each other? Was this some sort of test?
But to her shock, Zethan spoke, his voice calm yet firm, "Come get me."
Lilia's eyes widened. What was he talking about? He wasn't even holding a sword. How could he expect them to attack him?
Was he crazy?
He wanted both men to come at him? Her heart raced as worry etched across her face. She immediately stood up, ready to intervene, but something held her back. Zethan turned to her, his voice smooth but firm.
"Come on, Loris. Sit back down. Enjoy yourself."
Lucas, still scratching the back of his head, was as surprised as she was. His boss rarely did things like this—he usually only watched sparring matches, detached and uninterested. But now, he wasn't just telling Lucas to fight him—he was inviting the black-haired fighter to attack him as well.
What was he getting into? Lukas wondered. Was this really about impressing Miss Lilia?
Then, Zethan spoke again, his tone calm but commanding.
"Give me your best."
Before Lilia could even process what was happening, the two men lunged at him. Her eyes widened slightly, and in the blink of an eye, he dodged.
Goodness gracious... what was that?
His speed—it wasn't human. No matter how experienced someone was, they couldn't possibly move that fast. It was beyond what Lilia could comprehend.
Lucas charged at him again, but Zethan dodged with ease. The only sound ringing through the air was the clashing of the blunt metal swords. But to Lilia's shock, Zethan wasn't just avoiding their attacks—he was manipulating them.
The two fighters who were supposed to be attacking him were now unwittingly fighting each other.
How was that even possible?
As they attempted to strike again, Zethan dodged at the last second, causing both of their swords to collide. The impact sent the weapons flying to the ground.
Zethan chuckled slowly. "Is that your best?"
Before they could react, he swiftly moved his leg, sending the black-haired fighter tumbling to the floor. A grin spread across his face as he murmured, "Tch. Not even as fun as I expected."
Then, turning his gaze to Lilia, he gave her a slow, deliberate smile.
"Rate it."
And just like that, he walked back to his seat, settling down as if nothing had happened. Raising a hand lazily, he signaled for them to leave—clearly bored.
Lilia exhaled, her mind racing. Then she finally spoke. "I'd say... it's a ten."
Zethan turned to her, his brow slightly raised. "Ten? I'm surprised?"
Lilia met his gaze, her expression turning serious. "Because it didn't seem... human."
Zethan stilled. The silence between them stretched on, thick and uncomfortable. Lilia laughed softly, as if unaware of the weight of her own words. Then, with a teasing glint in her eyes, she spoke again.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you weren't human."
The thought itself was absurd. Why would Zethan not be human? Of course, he was. It was ridiculous to even consider otherwise.
Just as she was about to brush the comment aside, Zethan suddenly turned to her, his gaze unreadable.
Then, in a calm yet deliberate tone, he said, "Tell me, Loris... what if I told you I'm no human?"
