Urban's Fury: The War Dragon God-Chapter 1562: Murphy’s Law
West City.
Li Feng and the others stealthily entered the area of West City. In contrast to the bustling South City, West City felt like a ghostly realm, exuding a sense of desolation everywhere.
Especially since Li Feng's group specifically chose to walk through the secluded alleys, the desolation was even more apparent. Yet, the tall walls of blue bricks on both sides seemed to tell of the extraordinary past here.
"Why is there no one here?"
"This is too creepy."
Xiao Luobing, following in the group, curiously scanned the surroundings. Yet, after entering West City, it felt like another world, as if even traveling through these secluded alleys, they shouldn't be utterly devoid of people.
Ah.
Just as she was thinking, Xiao Luobing suddenly saw something frightening, and she screamed.
"Dead... a dead body."
Seeing what Xiao Luobing saw, Li Feng, Zi Yan, and Ran Yue naturally also saw it. It was a corpse hanging from a crooked-neck tree by the street. From the coagulating state of the bloodstains, it seemed to have been dead for no more than a day, and the body had multiple stab wounds, looking as broken as a sieve.
"Nothing too extraordinary here. Such scenes are common in West City, and some forces even use dead bodies to mark their territory. If anyone intrudes without permission, they meet the same fate."
Ran Yue stated as if accustomed to it.
Li Feng looked at the corpse hanging from the tree and then turned to Ran Yue: "So a force of West City is ahead as indicated by this body being hung here?"
Ran Yue nodded.
"Hmm, we have ventured over a thousand meters into West City, and only from here do we truly enter the core of West City."
Li Feng swept his gaze around.
"The surrounding architecture doesn't seem bad; the walls on both sides of the streets are made of quality blue stone bricks. How could it turn into a ghostly place?"
Many people inside Ancestor Dragon City were migrated by ancestors of Yan Country, inheriting ancestral rituals and customs.
For example, in terms of city layout, there's a long-standing notion: west for nobility, east for wealth, north fo r respect, and south for disdain.
By such customs, West City should be a gathering of nobility and wealth, and the buildings reflect this, as not many can afford yard walls of this height, occupying an entire alleyway.
"I know something about this." Before Ran Yue could speak, Zi Yan exhaled.
"Oh."
"Originally, West City wasn't like this. It was once a place where wealth and nobility gathered, making it the base of operations for several powerful factions."
"About two or three hundred years ago, someone unified the Lower Three Rings and with the many lowborn from the Ninth Ring as the foundation, challenged the esteemed families in power in the Upper Three Rings, intending to overthrow the families' control over Ancestor Dragon City."
"Thus began an internal war between the noble families and the commoners. The Upper Three Rings allied with the families of Middle Three Rings, who, though fewer in number, had superior high-level forces, especially Nascent Soul-level powerhouses, while the leader of the unified Lower Three Rings was just new to the Nascent Soul stage."
"However, that leader was not an ordinary Nascent Soul; he was a prodigy who rose up during the war against the Demon Clan, instantly killing a family Nascent Soul."
"But the foundation of the Lower Three Rings was too weak. The Upper Three Ring Families had the accumulation of millennia, and even though the war against the Demon Clan caused losses, they had more than one Nascent Soul." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"Yet at a critical moment, five Nascent Soul patriarchs from the families appeared, and the five of them fought against the one prodigy. Despite his unmatched might, he was eventually suppressed by the families."
"After his suppression, the resistance in the Lower Three Rings began to collapse, and some fled to the Outer Realm to survive, while others were brutally massacred by the families."
"Had it not been for the fact that 80% of Ancestor Dragon City's population resided in the Lower Three Rings, the city would have been inoperative if entirely slaughtered, not to mention the loss of accumulated resources over thousands of years. The Demon Clan might break the treaty and attack again."
"Yet over a million were killed in the end, countless enslaved, and what was once the essence of West City in the Ninth Ring became what it is now."
"This was intentional from the families of the Upper Three Rings, ensuring no one in the Lower Three Rings could unify again as powerful factions rise and fall almost every hundred years."
Hearing this from Zi Yan, Li Feng nodded secretly, understanding why a city meant to be prosperous fell into such ruin within the Four Cities.
The existence of West City seems a reminder to those in the Lower Three Rings of the consequences of rebellion, and the Death Arena likely originated for this reason.
Li Feng naturally did not intend to change anything, as it wasn't something he alone could change: "I'll take the lead, Ran Yue follows me, Zi Yan covers the rear. If anyone obstructs us, you three just protect yourselves and leave the rest to me."
"Okay."
The three girls nodded, and the four of them stepped directly into the alley ahead.
Li Feng was not worried about getting lost, as the four avenues leading to the Seventh Ring sloped steeply, visible from afar.
Ancestor Dragon City had few tall buildings, with the tallest being around six or seven stories, and almost none over two stories in West City, so as long as he looked up, he could find the direction, even if he didn't know which faction's territory the alleys led through in West City.
According to Ran Yue, West City had many forces and numerous strongmen, but they operated independently. Without an external power like the Dragon Tiger Sect seeking to unify West City, these forces would not cooperate.
So as long as he didn't run straight into the Death Arena, Li Feng wasn't claiming he'd walk unhindered, but it would be hard to stop him.
Ordinary Golden Core cultivators, Li Feng certainly wasn't afraid of now.
Yet if possible to avoid conflict, Li Feng wasn't keen on fighting.
But this is where Murphy's Law comes into play; the more you wish something doesn't happen, the more it does.
Suddenly, an Eight-pointed Copper Hammer descended from the sky, crashing in front of Li Feng's group, shattering the stone-paved ground and creating a pit about a meter in diameter.
"Hmph, coming onto my turf without a greeting, you must think I'm dead."
No person yet, but a voice was heard.
Just as Li Feng looked toward the sound, a hole suddenly burst open in the alley wall. Countless stone fragments shot like scattershot at the opposite wall, leaving it looking pockmarked.
In the next second.
A burly figure emerged from the wall hole, with a big belly protruding first even before the person appeared.
This person's size was such that even tied together, the three girls like Zi Yan wouldn't weigh as much, and with each step, the fat on his stomach jiggled several times.
As he blocked the path, a group of people jumped from the walls on both sides of the alley, sealing the escape route and trapping Li Feng's group.
