Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 338 Aged Wine
"Yeah, it's just the two of us in the room. Who else would I be talking to?" Lin Kuang said with a laugh, looking at Zhang Zirou.
"Ah, ah, right. Haha," Zhang Zirou laughed nervously. "Hehe, what... what did you just say?" she then asked, her face flushing.
This is so awkward. I'm usually so talkative, but now I keep fumbling my words. This is so frustrating and embarrassing.
At the sight, Lin Kuang was amused. This girl is really something else.
"I was asking what you do for work," Lin Kuang repeated with a smile. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Oh, my job! I'm just a regular employee at a company… in the tech department," Zhang Zirou said with a smile after a moment's thought.
"Oh, that's good. It's a nice line of work," Lin Kuang said, smiling himself.
"Yeah, it is. I'm surrounded by a lot of good friends there, so we have fun every day," Zhang Zirou said, her pretty face revealing two dimples that added a charming allure to her cute appearance.
Just then, Zhang Guodong walked over carrying a platter of fruit and nuts. He placed it on the coffee table and said with a smile, "Come on, Lin Kuang, don't be shy. Eat whatever you like."
Seeing this, Zhang Zirou secretly rolled her eyes at her father. I had just gotten the conversation going, and Dad comes barging in. This is unbearable!
"Uncle Zhang, you're too kind," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
However, he was actually quite thirsty. He picked up a slice of watermelon and took large bites, not standing on ceremony in the slightest.
Zhang Guodong nodded in satisfaction. As a military man, especially one from the older generation, he appreciated Lin Kuang's straightforward nature.
"Zirou, stop standing there. Go upstairs and get a room ready for Lin Kuang," Zhang Guodong said to his daughter with a chuckle.
"Alright, I'll go right now," Zhang Zirou agreed with a smile and ran upstairs to prepare the room.
Lin Kuang sat and chatted cheerfully with Zhang Guodong. Two soldiers together would naturally talk about military matters.
After about half an hour, the aroma of delicious food began to waft from the kitchen.
"Guodong, dinner's almost ready! You and Lin Kuang can get ready to eat," Tang Lingwen's cheerful voice called out. Zhang Zirou was in the kitchen with her, helping bring out bowls and chopsticks.
"Let's go, Lin Kuang. Time to eat," Zhang Guodong said, glancing at him with a smile.
Lin Kuang smiled and nodded, not holding back. He washed his hands and followed Zhang Guodong to the dining table.
The table was set with six dishes. They were all simple, home-cooked stir-fries, but their color, fragrance, and flavor were so appetizing they made one's mouth water just looking at them.
"Lin Kuang, help yourself to anything you like. It's all homemade, so it's not as fancy as a restaurant's. Please don't mind," Tang Lingwen said, looking at him with a warm smile.
"Not at all! Auntie, your cooking looks even better than a restaurant's. The color, aroma, and flavor are all perfect. The smell alone is making me drool," Lin Kuang said happily. This kind of warm dinner was exactly what he had always longed for; it made him feel the warmth of a real home.
In the Lin Family, only with his grandfather could Lin Kuang ever feel what a home and its warmth truly meant.
"You certainly have a way with words. Now, eat up," Tang Lingwen said, smiling. Lin Kuang's praise had put her in a very good mood.
"Zirou, go get that bottle of treasured old liquor of mine. I'm going to have a couple of drinks with Lin Kuang," Zhang Guodong said with a smile, looking at Zhang Zirou across the table.
"Okay," she replied with a smile and got up to leave.
A few minutes later, Zhang Zirou returned, holding not a bottle, but a small liquor jar.
"Here we go, Lin Kuang. This is the good stuff," Zhang Guodong said, smiling as he took the jar from her. "Old Yang and I got our hands on this ages ago. It's at least a few decades old, and the taste is extraordinary."
Hearing this, Lin Kuang was genuinely intrigued.
Zhang Guodong opened the jar, and a faint, rich aroma of alcohol filled the air. The scent alone was intoxicating.
"Kid, this stuff packs a real punch! Give it a try," Zhang Guodong said, pouring Lin Kuang a full cup. He only poured his own cup a little over halfway, knowing full well that a single full one would be enough to knock him out.
Lin Kuang was a bit skeptical and took a small, tentative sip.
As the liquor went down, he felt an intense, fiery heat spread through his chest, and his face instantly turned beet red.
But the expression on his face was one of strange wonder.
This liquor is seriously strong!
With that one sip, however, Lin Kuang felt the intensely positive True Qi in his body begin to circulate faster. In an instant, an incredible feeling of comfort washed over him, as if he had just stepped out of a sauna. It was fantastic.
"Good... This is great liquor, Uncle Zhang! This really is amazing stuff!" he exclaimed in admiration as the flush faded from his face.
Not only is this liquor satisfying, but more importantly, it can actually increase my True Qi a little. This is incredible!
"Haha, of course! Let me tell you, Old Yang and I each got a jar. That old coot never even touched his; he just keeps drinking mine. Damn it, that sly old fox gets trickier with age," Zhang Guodong laughed before taking a small sip himself.
Lin Kuang smiled and nodded. Since Yang Wucheng also had a jar, he'd have to find a way to get some from him another day. After all, this liquor had a remarkable effect on his True Qi.
And so, Lin Kuang and Zhang Guodong ate and chatted while Zhang Zirou and Tang Lingwen listened.
After finishing his cup, Lin Kuang felt clear-headed and invigorated, the feeling indescribably wonderful.
Zhang Guodong, on the other hand, was already drowsy and disoriented. He swayed slightly, muttering, "Old Yang... Old Yang..." leaving Lin Kuang torn between laughter and tears.
"Auntie, which room is Uncle Zhang's? I can carry him upstairs," Lin Kuang offered with a wry smile. I haven't even had my fill yet, but he's already done for.
Tang Lingwen nodded and was about to speak when Zhang Guodong's phone rang.
"Hold on, Lin Kuang. Let me get that," she said apologetically. She deftly pulled the phone from Zhang Guodong's pocket and answered.
"Oh, Song Tao? Guodong's asleep... Oh, Lin Kuang can talk, that works too. Okay, yes, I'll put him on." After a few words, she handed the phone to Lin Kuang.
"Lin Kuang, it's Song Tao. He says he has some news for you," Tang Lingwen said with a smile.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang nodded, his eyes lighting up with anticipation.
