Hearing footsteps, Lin Kuang's expression changed abruptly. Without a second thought, he leaped into the air and jumped straight through the hole in the roof. "Hold tight and don't be afraid!" he whispered. With those words, he raced across the hole-riddled rooftop. Upon reaching the edge, he leaped off without hesitation.

Terror filled Zhang Zirou's beautiful eyes, but she didn't scream. Instead, she just clung tightly to Lin Kuang's neck. He felt an astonishing softness press against his back—a truly wonderful sensation. However, he didn't let himself get sidetracked. This was no time for distractions.

The moment Lin Kuang leaped from the roof, two men entered the room where Zhang Zirou had been imprisoned. The man in the lead was Okamoto Oki. As he took in the scene, his expression faltered, then turned exceedingly grim.

"Send men after them!" he roared. Powering his legs, Okamoto Oki launched himself straight out through the hole in the roof.

By now, even a fool could see that the intruder had rescued Zhang Zirou through the hole in the roof. How else could anyone have gotten in when the building was surrounded by guards? When Okamoto Oki reached the edge of the roof, he saw Lin Kuang vaulting over a nearby wall with Zhang Zirou on his back. At this sight, his eyes instantly filled with murderous intent.

If Zhang Zirou escapes, the plan will fail. And if the plan fails after I've lost so many of my men, I'll be a dead man when I return to the Island Country, even if I survive this!

This thought spurred Okamoto Oki to roar, "After them! Get them!"

With that, he leaped from the rooftop, vaulted the wall, and frantically pursued Lin Kuang.

Lin Kuang, already deep in the woods, could sense Okamoto Oki closing in on him. "Hold on tight. You have to hold on tight," he whispered to Zhang Zirou.

Zhang Zirou nodded desperately. She wrapped her legs tightly around his waist and clung to his neck with her small hands.

Just then, Lin Kuang whipped out two Type 92 pistols from behind his back and fired over his shoulder. The twin pistols barked, spitting out four bullets almost simultaneously toward Okamoto Oki.

The moment Lin Kuang glanced back, Okamoto Oki knew he was in trouble. He threw himself to the ground, and the four bullets whizzed past just overhead. Unsurprised, Lin Kuang fired another two shots at the prone Okamoto Oki. But Okamoto Oki was a skilled fighter. The instant Lin Kuang pulled the trigger, he was already moving again, rolling frantically on the ground to dodge the incoming bullets.

Seeing this, Lin Kuang wasted no more time. He suddenly accelerated, disappearing from Okamoto Oki's line of sight in just a few bounds. By the time Okamoto Oki got to his feet, Lin Kuang and Zhang Zirou were gone.

Enraged, he kicked a nearby tree twice, venting his fury. They must be hiding somewhere nearby.

At that moment, about twenty men from the Island Country rushed out, each armed. Okamoto Oki snatched a pistol from one of his men and commanded coldly, "Spread out and search! Find the man and kill him on sight. Keep the woman alive; she's still useful."

"Yes, sir!" the men from the Island Country responded in unison before dispersing to begin the search.

Meanwhile, Lin Kuang and Zhang Zirou were indeed hiding in a thicket of bushes about thirty meters from Okamoto Oki. Lin Kuang lay prone on the ground, with Zhang Zirou lying quietly beside him. Listening to Okamoto Oki's commands and watching his men search, Lin Kuang knew he had to think of a plan, or they would be discovered sooner or later. Fortunately, it was nighttime and the forest provided poor lighting. Otherwise, hiding would have been far more difficult.

"Stay here and don't move. I'll draw them away. Wait for me to come back, understand?" Lin Kuang whispered close to Zhang Zirou's ear.

"Okay... I'll wait for you. But... could you move your hand first?" Zhang Zirou replied, her soft voice tinged with shyness.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang paused. He instinctively squeezed his right hand and felt something incredibly soft. The next moment, he snatched his hand back, his expression filled with embarrassment. When he had first dived into the bushes, he had been worried that Zhang Zirou wouldn't react fast enough, so he had simply pulled her down with him and hadn't moved since. In his haste, he had no idea what his hand was resting on until she pointed it out.

"Ahem... wait for me. No matter what happens, don't move and don't make a sound," he cautioned again.

In the next instant, Lin Kuang shot to his feet. He moved like a ghost, flitting through the pitch-black forest.

"He's over there! Fire!" one of the men from the Island Country spotted him and yelled. Two dozen guns swiveled toward Lin Kuang and unleashed a furious volley. For an instant, muzzle flashes illuminated the spot where Lin Kuang had been, only to reveal he was already gone.

But just then, a single shot rang out. One of the pursuers' heads exploded, killing him instantly.

"Where is he? Where is he?!" someone shouted.

Just then, another series of gunshots echoed out, and five more men from the Island Country fell dead.

"Dammit, he's in the trees! Up in the trees!" someone screamed, being the first to open fire. Bullets riddled the tree where Lin Kuang had been a moment before. However, when the gunfire ceased, his figure had already vanished. Every bullet had missed its mark.

By now, Lin Kuang had circled around behind his pursuers, the cold killing intent in his eyes growing even more intense. The next moment, he moved with blinding speed, both pistols firing simultaneously.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Bullets flew relentlessly. Each shot found its mark, and with every crack of his guns, another man from the Island Country fell to the ground, dead.

"Quick, he's behind us! He's behind us!" Okamoto Oki roared, his face grim as he fired his own pistol.

The remaining dozen men also opened fire, sending a hail of bullets toward the spot where Okamoto Oki was shooting. Yet, when they ceased fire, they discovered the ghost-like figure had once again vanished without a trace. It was as if he had melted into the darkness, rendered completely invisible.
