Apart from natural-born masochists like myself, players actually aren’t the best candidates for grunt work either.

Take that mire producing Black Mud in Red Ridge Town, for instance. It is only because there are still few players that no one has messed with it yet. Otherwise, when more people arrive, someone will inevitably tear it apart.

Baldy tried to prevent this by limiting what actions characters could take and by setting up safe zones, amongst other things.

But this might be underestimating the players’ intelligence a bit. Even if they can’t do it directly, there are many ways they can cause destruction indirectly.

It’s not that the players are inherently bad, though there are indeed such people, but most are just blindly messing around out of curiosity.

When people arrive in a new area and face new rules, they subconsciously want to explore the boundaries. This is actually a way for players to learn and adapt to new roles.

Plus, this type of exploration brings its own fun. Rather than trying to restrict it at every turn, it might be better to go with the flow and even utilize it.

Baldy still seemed unsure, "I’ve seen your plan, and indeed, some powerful lords in the Abyss also distribute land to their loyal subordinates.

"For example, I received Red Ridge, but even the lowest-ranking Skeleton Soldiers getting land has never happened before in the history of the Abyss.

"And they haven’t contributed anything yet, nor have they proved their loyalty to Lord Aisagon. If I distribute land to them now, even just a tiny bit, other original residents in the town probably won’t be happy."

"It’s fine, it’s just a nominal title. If you think it would be difficult to explain to Lord Aisagon, just change the name to something like acting village head. This will also motivate players to strive for a permanent position.

"As for the other NPCs in the town, let them be unhappy. There’s no need to hide it; let them openly express their dissatisfaction. It’s like that saying, ’suppress to promote’. It’s all over the internet literature."

"Feeling the NPCs’ distrust, players will be even more motivated to strengthen themselves, to prove the doubts wrong by their actions, enjoying the thrill of proving others wrong.

"Yeah, but you should also control it a bit, don’t go too far and create serious grievances."

Baldy was still frowning, "Assigning some peripheral land to players for management isn’t out of the question, and it could even help them clear out nearby Wild Monsters for free, ensuring Red Ridge’s safety.

"But then there would be no one left to do the grunt work. Your idea of raiding other weaker territories is also a method, but at the beginning, with the players’ strength, they can’t even defeat a Ghoul, who could they rob?"

"Initially, just use them like Palu as originally planned. Anyway, they need to build up some experience if they want to become lords, and having a goal and motivation will make them more eager to complete quests.

"Moreover, once the number of players increases, the workload distributed among each individual actually won’t be that much."

"Hmm, should we reduce the requirements for some quest items then?" Baldy asked.

"No need, that would be too unfair to the earlier players. Don’t worry, this little problem, the players can solve it by themselves."

......

Boss Hu almost couldn’t remember the last time he played a game. It seemed to be an online game called something like "Legend," where he had created a guild, led a bunch of brothers, and fought against rival guilds, enjoying lively days.

But then he had children and his company grew larger, leaving him no time for games. Now that his child had gone off to college and his company’s business had stabilized, he finally had more time.

But many of the gaming buddies he used to play with, their profile pictures had not lit up in ages.

Boss Hu’s interest in gaming had waned; this time, coming to play in Red Ridge was more about that miraculous Atonement Cake.

Besides, Boss Hu had also not forgotten to arrange for people to queue up early outside the Universe Infinite Canteen, ready to grab one of the limited 20 servings available tomorrow.

Given the Atonement Cake was effective and yet had no side effects, he was determined to secure it, thus making backup arrangements.

Not only that, but Boss Hu also planned to let his party members collect more game discs tomorrow, so he could organize more people to hunt for Pie Coupon Fragments.

After all, gaming is definitely not a solo activity.

However, tonight he planned to scout the game alone, for which Boss Hu had just bought a PS5 at the store.

After entering the game and watching the introductory cutscene, Boss Hu marveled at how much game technology had advanced, far surpassing the pixelated quality of his day.

This piqued his interest in Red Ridge even more, especially after remembering Baldy’s furious investment of fifteen million in collaboration with Universe Infinite Canteen. Boss Hu thought that Hakimi Network Technology Co., Ltd. wasn’t weak. He just didn’t understand why there was no marketing for the game after its release.

Maybe because they only sold game discs?

However, Boss Hu wasn’t very familiar with the gaming industry, so he didn’t dwell on this point.

Soon he had watched the opening animation and entered the Face Alteration System.

Boss Hu didn’t see any difference in the skeletons, so he used the one-click selection to enter the game.

Upon arriving at the spawn point, Boss Hu moved the joystick around, observing the surroundings and couldn’t help but internally praise the game’s exquisite detail.

He was originally here just for the Atonement Cake, but now his interest increased seeing the impressive setting.

While he was checking the environment, an NPC with the word ’Quartermaster’ over his head had already spoken.

"Humph, another little Skeleton Soldier who wants to be an acting village head. It doesn’t matter, you’ll probably disappear just like the others after a few days.

New n𝙤vel chapters are published on freeweɓnøvel.com.

"By the way, if you want a backpack, you can collect 500 portions of Black Mud for me in Mire Pond to the north, but I doubt you can even complete this simplest task."

Having dealt with all sorts of people in his years of doing business, Boss Hu didn’t get angry at the comment but simply smiled lightly.

The NPCs in this game were quite impressive, realistically showing disdain through their tone and looks.

Boss Hu then glanced at the quest log where the new backpack quest had appeared and walked toward Mire Pond.

He returned in less than half an hour.

The Quartermaster saw him and let out a cold laugh, "Hahaha, you gave up faster than I thought... Wait, where did you get that backpack?"

"Oh, I bought it from another player," Boss Hu typed.
