Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 334: REMINISCE
River frowned when she saw the drawer where Ranon would put his shirt was empty, but she found a note.
"What is this?" River took out the notes and read the message.
[There is a dress inside your wardrobe, the second door from the left. Wear it; we will wait for you.]
"We?" River frowned. Did Ranon take Ashlyn with him, too?
Without a second thought, River went to her wardrobe and checked the second door from the left, like what Ranon told her on the note.
Inside, she found a red dress with a black leather jacket.
A smile rose on her lips. "What is it? A surprise?" She took the dress from the wardrobe and found another note.
[Get some breakfast; there is your favorite juice inside the fridge and your breakfast on the dining table. We will wait for you.]
River grinned from ear to ear. She immediately took a bath and put on the dress. It fit her perfectly, as if it were made only for her.
Before she went to the dining room, she checked Ashlyn’s bedroom and found another note on the bed, as if Ranon knew that she would come here to check on their daughter.
[I am with Dad, Mama. Come to me quickly, I don’t want to babysit him for long. We will wait for you. Love you, Mama.]
"Babysit?" River chuckled to read Ranon’s choice of words.
After that, she went to the dining room and found her breakfast, a plate of fried rice with the side dishes. Inside the fridge, she found her cucumber juice.
"He is so tacky," River said with a grumble, but she couldn’t stop herself from smiling so widely. She had never felt this happy before.
She had seen this kind of thing in a movie before, and she thought it was cringy. Well, she still thought this thing was cringy, something that River would never imagine Ranon would ever do.
However, she still felt pleased with all of this cringy stuff. In a way, Ranon managed to surprise her.
When River finished eating, Renna came and handed her a phone. "Mr. Leighton asked me to give you this." Renna smiled widely, but there were tears in her eyes. She was happy, though. "Cam is waiting for you in the lobby."
"Thank you, Renna." River stood up and then hugged her tightly.
"Please, be happy and make this family happy again." Renna hugged River tighter. She was happy for River, but at the same time, she couldn’t help but feel sadness. If only Hazel were still alive...
Hazel’s picture was still in the living room; Ranon had not yet taken it down, but Renna thought it would be a matter of time before the picture was replaced, and this made her sad.
"I will; thank you, Renna."
River took the phone and then went to the lobby, where Cam was waiting for her. He greeted her politely and then opened the car door for her.
"Thank you, Cam."
"You are welcome," Cam said.
River felt a little bit awkward with him because he put distance between them. She knew why people around Ranon were strongly against her, and it was understandable; there was nothing she could do to force them to accept her.
Once she was inside, River received a message from Ranon.
[Tell me what you remember from the places that you will visit. We will wait for you.]
The first place that they visited was the place where Ranon and Hazel’s wedding was held. Cam glanced at River’s expression from the rearview mirror.
"Mr. Leighton told me to take you here," he said, as if he wanted to tell her that he had nothing to do with the choice of the location.
"I know," River replied lightly. She remembered this place as if it had just happened yesterday. The hill where they had their wedding and the scenery from that day...
"Do you know this place?" Cam asked out of curiosity; he wanted to know if River knew what memory this place held for Ranon Leighton.
"I know."
Cam shook his head. He thought he didn’t make himself clear. "I mean, do you know what this place meant for Mr. Leighton?"
"Yes, I know." River shifted her attention to Cam and met his gaze from the rearview mirror. "This is the wedding venue between Hazel and Ranon, right?"
"Umm, yes."
Cam avoided River’s eyes, and she chuckled to see his reaction. "I know." River opened the car door and stepped outside for a while. "Don’t think too much." She then closed the door and stretched out her legs, walking around for a while. It was a little bit nostalgic.
Meanwhile, Cam was flabbergasted. He didn’t know what to think at this moment. How could River be very chill when she was taken to the wedding venue between Ranon and his first wife?
But on top of that, Cam wondered, what was the meaning of this? Why did Mr. Leighton ask him to take this woman to the places that held so much memory for him and Hazel?"
It didn’t make sense...
Cam should have taken River’s advice not to think too much...
After the wedding venue, Cam took River to another place. This time, it was the auction building where Ranon bought Hazel’s engagement ring and their daughter’s tiara.
River also received another message from Ranon, which ended with the same words: We will wait for you.
After the auction building, Cam took her to the Imperial Restaurant, where a huge plate of lamb chops for her lunch had been prepared.
[I wish you were here. Ashlyn should try this.] River chatted with Ranon.
[I have taken her there; unfortunately, she had different tastes from you.]
River pursed her lips. "Liar. No way, there is someone who doesn’t like lamb chops."
After River had her lunch, Cam took her to the park, where they had their first picnic together. This was also the place where Ashlyn walked for the first time.
There were not many people here, since this was not the time or season for people to have a picnic.
River found another message on the tree, but this time, it was a picture of her and Ashlyn, who were sleeping together. It was taken recently.
A huge smile appeared on her lips.
After that, Cam took her to a hotel.
River remembered this hotel clearly.
[Seriously, this hotel?]
This time Ranon called her. "So, you can reminisce about what happened."
River laughed when she heard that. "I don’t need to reminisce about anything. I remember everything. If only you were here, we could relive the memory together," River suggested. "Are you here?" There was a hope in her voice.
"No. I am waiting for you at the first place we met."
"First place?" River frowned. "This is our first place." She watched as Cam took the car to the entrance.
"No, it’s not."
"What?" River was confused now. "I had never met you before..., had I?"
Ranon laughed. "See you later, Love. We will wait for you." And then Ranon hung up the call.
"I can’t believe he hung up on me." River tried to think hard about where she had met Ranon before this hotel, but she couldn’t think of any moment.
She had never met him before the incident at this hotel.
Even when she knew him, the closest River got to Ranon was when she caught a glimpse of him, since he was around her target.
Therefore, it was rather confusing if Ranon said they had met before the incident at the hotel.
"We will leave after you have your breakfast tomorrow," Cam informed River.
"Where?" River was curious; she didn’t think she would be able to sleep with this curiosity, but Cam wouldn’t tell her.
"Mr. Leighton did not allow me to tell you anything about the next destination." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Knowing that she couldn’t force the answer out of Cam, River gave up, but she said something before he left. "You can call me by my name."
"Thank you," Cam said politely as he handed River the room card and then left.
Seeing his response, River shrugged her shoulders and headed to the elevator to go to her room. Once she entered, she quickly realized it was the same room where she had spent that fateful night with Ranon—the night she conceived Ashlyn.
"This man..." River scrunched her nose, but she couldn’t stop the smile on her lips.
When River went to the balcony, where she had jumped out of the room that night, the phone rang. It was Ranon calling her.
"Do you like it?"
"I don’t see you here."
Ranon laughed. "I told you, right? I am waiting for you at the first place we met."
"This is the first place we met." River was adamant. Her memories wouldn’t fail her. "Where else have we met before this?"
"Think hard, Love."
"I have. My head is going to burn if I think harder than this."
Ranon laughed even more, and River could feel he was in a very good mood. "I wish you were here."
"I wish I were there."
"Why don’t I go to your place right away? There is no need to take a rest here if you are not here."
"No, you need to get some rest."
River sighed deeply. She stared at the bright night sky, where the moon looked so lonely and beautiful. "How is Ash?"
"She just threw a tantrum because she missed you."
River grinned. "Did she claw you?"
"Yes, she did, but she is sleeping now."
