Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 283: (PAST) RANON
"You are going to live here from now on and learn everything that you need to know about the company." Denzel glanced at his newly found son. There was no warmth in his eyes. "You are a Leighton now; remember that."
Ranon didn’t give any response to that; he kept staring outside the car window. Nothing interested him.
"Think only about your study. Don’t think about anything else." Denzel then added viciously. "Or anyone else in this matter."
Currently, both of them were sitting in the backseat of the car. They just entered the Leightons’ residence. Not everyone could enter this place, and the majestic sight of the whole place should put anyone in awe, especially those who saw it for the first time.
However, Ranon didn’t have any expression. He had been here before. This was when Denzel first offered him the opportunity to take the Leighton name, which he turned down.
The only reason he finally accepted it was because he had no other choice. He had to choose between this and facing 20 years in prison for murder.
His partner chickened out in the last mission, ruined the plan, and landed him in jail. If the investigation continued and he got a guilty sentence, it would be a long time before he could taste freedom again.
Denzel took this opportunity to get Ranon, leaving him with no other choice.
"We will never speak of this matter again. This never happened. We can’t guarantee that no one might overhear us by chance."
That was what Denzel said when Ranon’s case was closed. And his father had never brought this matter up again. Ranon’s track record was wiped clean, along with the fact he had been in jail for a few days because he beat someone up a few years prior.
"Do you hear me?" Denzel was annoyed because he met with silence.
"I hear you."
"Answer me whenever I talk to you."
Ranon turned his head and met his father’s eyes. He felt the urge to punch him in the face, but in the end, he chose not to. "Okay." He turned his head to observe the tree again.
"Bastard," Denzel groaned in annoyance.
It didn’t take long before the car finally arrived at the main building, and Denzel went out of the car, gesturing for Ranon to follow him.
Ranon did follow Denzel, and he had prepared himself for what was going to happen, but when he saw her again, he couldn’t help but feel the rage that consumed him.
There she was, looking pretty with the expensive dress that Denzel bought for her.
Ema was stunned to see Ranon there. She stood on top of the stairs, as she didn’t dare to take another step to go down and meet with her husband.
"Ranon?" Ema called his name, and Ranon felt nothing but disgust.
It was so weird to feel this way. He was so composed when they met the last time, or the week that followed.
However, when Ranon realized he was going to live under the same roof with Ema in this circumstance and that Denzel had his life within his grip, it angered Ranon.
"Mind your own business," Denzel said to his young wife and his son as he approached Ema and kissed her lips.
Out of instinct, Ema wanted to pull away, but Denzel’s grip didn’t allow her to escape. She felt as if she was dying as Denzel kissed her in front of Ranon.
However, Ranon didn’t even look in her direction. Of course, he wouldn’t. Who would want to see your ex being affectionate with another man?
"Alfred will take you to your room," Denzel said as he grabbed Ema’s arm and brought her back to the second floor, to their bedroom.
Ema kept glancing over her shoulder to check on Ranon, but not even once did Ranon look at her, and this made her sad.
"Don’t even try, Ema," Denzel warned her. "If you dare to make a move on him, you will regret it."
Ema lowered her eyes and focused on Denzel, though her whole body wanted to reject him.
In the following days, Ranon was busy with his study. It was not easy to learn about the Leighton company.
However, due to its complexity, he could focus on other matters and clear his mind. He could also regulate his emotions.
He finally no longer felt rage whenever he saw Denzel or Ema. But he probably overdid it because in the end, he had no emotion toward those two at all, not even rage. There was nothing.
However, in the second month, Ema took the initiative to talk to him.
"Ranon, I know our living situation is not to your liking, but please, don’t make it more awkward."
Ema had knocked on his door and asked him to come down to have dinner with her because Denzel would be late. There were a lot of things to handle, since the company was not in a good situation.
However, Ranon declined that.
"Did Denzel know that you come to my room to talk about this?" Ranon knew that Denzel was not at home. He crossed his arms as he stood at the door.
"That...," Ema didn’t have a good excuse to answer the question.
"Don’t cause trouble. I have enough to handle. Mind your own business, Ema." Ranon turned around, but Ema grabbed his hand to stop him.
She was not sure why she did it; she just knew that she had missed him so badly. They lived under the same roof, but not even once did he look at her properly, let alone have a conversation.
"Do you hate me, Ranon?"
"No."
"You’re lying. I know that you hate me. I’m sorry about everything, but at least, can we become friends?"
Ranon shook her hand from him. "No. You are my father’s wife. We can’t be friends." After that, he closed the door in front of her face before Ema could stop him again.
In the following days, Ema didn’t try that again, probably because she didn’t have a chance, since Denzel was always at home, and Ranon had started his day at the office. He would come very late, even later than Denzel, and he would go straight to his bedroom.
Ranon always woke up very early and then came to the office and returned very late. He also went out on the weekends.
That was Ranon’s routine for a few months, until he barely realized that it had almost been a year since he had stayed in the Leightons’ residence.
Even so, this place didn’t feel like home at all.
Until one day, Daniel was finally discharged from the hospital. He occupied a room on the same floor as Ranon’s.
"I don’t believe it; I have a younger brother." Daniel smiled at Ranon when he opened the door. "Why are you here? Let’s get down and have dinner together."
"I have already eaten," Ranon replied lightly, but he had to move out of the door when Daniel wheeled his wheelchair inside.
Ranon didn’t have any intention to let him in, but because he didn’t want his toes to be run over by Daniel’s wheelchair, he had to make a way for him.
"Your bedroom looks very plain. You should put a personal touch here, so you will feel at home." Daniel observed the bland room. "Do you want me to help you to decorate your room?"
"No, thanks." Ranon didn’t move from the door; he watched Daniel venture into his bedroom and flip through the business books on the table that Ranon was currently reading.
"Come on, let’s have dinner together," Daniel said enthusiastically as he wheeled his wheelchair toward Ranon again. "I want to know more about you."
Ranon’s patience had run very thin now. He would rather not be bothered; therefore, he pushed Daniel’s wheelchair out of his bedroom.
"Wait, wait! No." Daniel tried to stop it, but it was too late. He was already outside the bedroom. "You are so heartless."
"Don’t bother me," Ranon said and then closed the door.
Ranon thought that was enough to drive Daniel away, but he was so wrong. On the following day, he came to his bedroom again, and the day after that, and after that...
"What do you want?" Ranon felt exhausted and agitated by Daniel’s persistence.
"Having dinner with you," Daniel said happily.
He looked too bright and cheerful for someone who was diagnosed unable to walk anymore.
"Because you don’t want to go down and have dinner together, I think we can have the dinner in your room."
Ranon felt he got a headache. He should stay at the office at this point.
But before he could decline as usual, Alfred had entered his bedroom with a maid who brought their meal. They set up the table and then left.
Daniel had welcomed himself to enter the bedroom.
"Come on, it doesn’t feel good to eat alone." Daniel gestured for Ranon to join him.
"This will be the last time." Ranon finally relented. He closed the door behind him and joined Daniel at the table.
"Oh, please. You are too harsh with your brother." Daniel patted Ranon’s shoulder.
"I have never seen you as a brother. And I don’t like to be touched." Ranon swatted his hand away from him, but Daniel only chuckled. He was not offended at all.
"I only want to know more about you," Daniel said genuinely. "I don’t have a little brother."
And that dinner was the beginning of other dinners.
