Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 319: Brother
"Thank you so much for your trouble," Seraphina Sinclair said, a little embarrassed. This was supposed to be her task, yet she always bothered Keith Hughes.
"Aren’t we good friends? No need for formalities between friends. Is there anything you’d like to eat? I’ll bring some over for you later," Keith Hughes asked, worried that Seraphina might be hungry.
Seraphina shook her head, indicating she didn’t need anything.
After hanging up the phone, Pomelo looked at Keith with a sly expression, "Uncle Hughes, do you like Aunt Seraphina?"
Just as Keith wanted to deny it, Jude Sinclair answered, "You’re pretty smart."
Pomelo proudly puffed up her chest, brimming with pride, "Of course, I’m very smart. Uncle Hughes’s eyes are different when he looks at Aunt Seraphina; it’s obvious he likes her!"
"You know quite a lot for your age. What else can you tell? Share with uncle," Keith, amused, looked at Pomelo, noting how perceptive she was.
"I can tell that Uncle Hughes likes Aunt Seraphina, and I can also see that Uncle Fairchild likes Aunt Seraphina too. So, you two are definitely rivals in love," Pomelo thought of Desmond Fairchild and Keith Hughes, both appearing quite impressive to her.
To her, both were excellent choices, and no matter who Seraphina ends up with, she would be happy.
Just as she was contemplating this, Keith asked, "So, who do you like more, uncle, or Uncle Fairchild? Who do you wish to be Aunt Seraphina’s boyfriend?"
This question stumped Pomelo, as she didn’t have deep feelings for either. On the surface, Keith seemed gentler, while Desmond seemed to have a bad temper.
But Aunt Seraphina had taught her not to judge anything solely on appearances.
So, she hesitated for a long time, not answering Keith’s question.
Jude noticed Pomelo’s dilemma and intervened, "Uncle Hughes, isn’t your question a bit much? It’s like asking me if I like Dad or Mom more. Pomelo really likes you, Uncle, but she also really likes Dad. How could she choose?"
Keith hadn’t expected Jude to reprimand him and laughed awkwardly, "Sorry, it was my mistake. To make it up, how about I treat you all to ice cream?"
"Really?" Pomelo’s eyes sparkled with joy, as it had been a long time since she’d had ice cream.
"But it’s already autumn, you can have some, just not too much, understand?" Keith wanted to fulfill Pomelo’s wish, but considering she was still a child, too much cold food might not be good for her in this season.
Besides, Pomelo already had leukemia and wasn’t sure if she could eat such things.
But ultimately, Keith couldn’t resist Pomelo’s adorable pleading and bought her a small scoop of Häagen-Dazs.
Jude wasn’t very interested in sweets; he preferred spicy food, but due to his sensitive stomach, he usually had to stick to milder foods.
"Brother Jude, don’t you like ice cream?" Seeing that Jude’s ice cream was barely touched, Pomelo asked, puzzled.
Could Jude dislike ice cream? How could anyone not like such delicious food?
Jude shook his head and explained, "I don’t really like sweets. If you like it, you can have it all."
Pomelo shrieked with delight, "Thank you, Brother Jude, you’re the best."
Keith stood aside, watching the two kids interact with a smile, wondering if they had forgotten that he was the one who bought the ice cream.
Of course, as an adult, he wouldn’t fuss over such things with children, finding their interaction rather amusing.
Jude’s cool demeanor bore some resemblance to his father. Pomelo’s innocence and charm matched well with that kind of personality.
The harmony between the quiet and the lively was oddly compatible.
If left to develop, they might become an enviable couple when they grow up.
Keith had no idea that his thoughts aligned with Seraphina’s.
"Brother Jude, can I just call you brother from now on?" Pomelo asked, eyes wide with hope as she ate her ice cream.
"Why?" Jude wasn’t opposed; he was just curious.
Pomelo grinned innocently, "I’m my parents’ only daughter. Every time I see others with siblings, I get very, very envious. I often think how nice it would be to have a brother..."
"Mom and Dad are always busy. When they go out, they leave me home alone. I really wish I had someone to keep me company, but I know I can’t throw a tantrum. Because Mom and Dad have to earn money, and only with their hard work can I have a happy life, wear beautiful dresses, and eat delicious food."
At this point, Pomelo seemed to recall some sad memories, and the ice cream in her hand suddenly lost its sweetness.
Think carefully, from her birth until now, her parents hadn’t really been around much.
"Mom and Dad are so busy they don’t have time to take care of me. When I was very young, I was sent to kindergarten. Before coming here, I always lived in the kindergarten."
"But the kids at kindergarten didn’t like to play with me much. They’d always say I was a wild child without parents. But Pomelo isn’t; she has parents; they just don’t have time to visit her."
From then on, Pomelo always thought how wonderful it would be to have siblings, at least someone to be with her, to watch over her, someone to protect her when others picked on her. Even if they couldn’t protect her, just having them by her side would be enough.
"So, would you be willing to be my brother?" After some thought, Pomelo finally gathered the courage to express what was on her mind.
Jude wasn’t the type to talk much. Yet, after hearing so much from Pomelo, he felt it resonate deeply. When Seraphina was busy before, he too was left alone.
He could really understand Pomelo’s feelings. In the world of parents, there might be work, friends, family, or other things, but in the world of their children, there are only parents.
When the parents couldn’t be there for some reason, the loneliness children felt was unimaginable to others.
Without much deliberation, Jude immediately agreed to Pomelo’s request, "If that’s what you want, I don’t mind."
"Really? That’s awesome, thank you, brother." Pomelo quickly finished her ice cream, tossed the trash away, and threw herself into Jude’s arms, sweetly calling him brother.
