Ultimate Gamer System: Factory Must Grow!-Chapter 102: DLC Unlocked: Flush!
"Come with me."
Even though the rest of Callane's group had now gone to sleep in the shacks Theo built for them between the wooden wall and the moat, neither of the two had fallen asleep yet.
It didn't matter that it was already deep into the night when their little feast came to an end. Having their bellies full of the berry mush and its delicious juice would only make it easier for them to fall asleep…
And yet, rather than going to get some rest, they both refused to retire for the night, albeit for much different reasons.
Theo simply wasn't tired.
He got a proper sleep before the invasion and was long since used to working hard for longer than any normal human would be willing to.
Stuck in a world where he himself was the one getting the benefits from his own labors, Theo found work to be surprisingly pleasant.
As opposed to working a shift in a normal job back on Earth that would net him a fraction of the value he would provide for the company, here, whatever he created or worked on would benefit him and him alone in the most direct of ways.
That's why, with more than enough energy to keep on going for the whole night and then all of the day after it, Theo simply couldn't fathom the idea of letting this energy go to waste by retiring for the night so soon.
Not when he finally could start moving towards the first far-reaching, obvious goal his system put before him.
Contrary to how things changed before, even after accepting all the bonuses from the recent fight, Theo didn't really get any major benefits.
Sure, he leveled up even higher, got his hands on some precious loot, a legendary shard of the exoskeleton included. Yet, when it came to his system…
No new achievements appeared, no new blueprints popped up, nor did anything else change for the better.
And the reason for that appeared to be quite simple — now that Theo reached the level of factory building, he had to advance it much further before he could hope for yet another upgrade to his system!
Now, with just a bit less than sixty hours before the next wave of attacks would come, Theo was finally ready to start putting in work towards his next goal.
Or so would be the case if he didn't take care of it in advance, now only having to gather up the materials that his factory continued to craft for quite some time already, store them in that special and extremely expensive building… and then see what happens.
That was the reason why Theo refused to go to sleep, opting to burn the candle through the night as he worked away instead.
When it came to Callane, however, she simply stuck to Theo like some sort of loyal puppy, refusing to let him move any further than a few steps away from her.
She followed him when he went to the moat to wipe his face clean after the feast. She followed him when he moved to his mansion where, for the first time in a while, he used the materials her group provided to get himself a fresh set of clothes.
And even in spite of Theo's protests, she followed him when he moved to the staircase leading down to the underground, not uttering a single word of complaint even as the number of times she had to jump from one step to the other reached hundreds.
'I knew I wasn't supposed to let her see it all but…'
Theo struggled with the situation for a moment before ultimately opting to just ignore the girl, too busy with his own tasks to afford paying much attention to her.
'I still need to figure out more about the past of this body, especially if I want to one day return beyond the wall,' Theo thought as he finally reached the underground floor, stepping from the staircase and into the open room of his main staging area for the factory.
Thankfully, the lack of light that Theo dealt with purely through the means provided by the system now conveniently hid the true scale of Theo's underground from the girl, making her amusingly oblivious to the technological marvel hidden in plain sight, always just a few steps too deep into the darkness for the girl to see.
Or so Theo thought, before he took the corner and entered the main manufacturing room, only to realize the one flaw in his thinking.
Sure, there were no torches or any sort of artificial light set within the factory floor. And while Theo dealt with the darkness through the help of his system…
Callane could easily see through the floor purely thanks to all the light produced by the working machines!
A diode here, a small status light there, the shine from where the ores melted into ingots, the light given off by the molten metal as it settled down in its cast, waiting to turn into ingots… Those and all sorts of other small yet bright details turned the pitch-perfect darkness of how the factory would be with the machines turned off into but a slight shadow now that they were all working!
"What…" After taking a moment to merely come to terms with what she saw in front of her, Callane finally attempted to speak up. "What is this place?" she asked in a small voice, visibly lowering her posture and slumping her back, as if the sight of the factory alone was enough to put an unbearable weight on her shoulders.
"The heart of my land and why I'm not all that interested in what lies on the other side of the wall," Theo replied, giving the girl just a few moments more to get used to the sight before pushing ahead.
There, in a place just like any other, he finally gathered the resources from various storage bins within his claims before using most of them up to place the one building that, up until this point, remained too expensive for him to even consider.
[Upgrader Constructed]
A single line of text flowered before Theo's eyes as soon as the building's huge blueprint condensed by about ten percent while raising up a tiny bit… only to then decompress as it settled within the frame of its original, designed size.
Contrary to all the buildings, however, this wasn't just another machine.
No.
Just from the arrangement of its logistical inputs and outputs… Or rather, the lack of the latter, one could tell this machine was only designed to accept items while offering none in return.
Yet, as Theo took a step forward and pressed his hand against its interface…
WHOOSH!
The whole machine suddenly came alive, its seemingly solid frame now expanding even further as the whole upper ninety percent of it rose up in the air, held up by nothing more than the arcs of raw electricity flowing from the powered-up frame of the building to the negatively charged floating core of it.
"What is this unholy contraption?!"
A few steps to the back, Callane was losing her mind, not sure whether to run, pull her weapon out, or just… stare in awe at the unknown object, too frozen in shock to make even the tiniest move.
"In short, it's my path to progress," Theo muttered before opening up several interfaces for the storage bins before gathering all the resources the Upgrader required. "But rather than explaining, how about I just show how it works?"
Before he could even finish the question, Theo had already moved over all the necessary items from his own inventory to the building's storage, causing a huge button near its main interface to turn from red to green.
And seeing this… Theo would be the last to stack reasons for himself to wait, opting to just go ahead and smash his hand against it.
