Chapter 291: 291 Front doors

[Friday’s POV: ]

Master...

She had definitely grown in the time this team was doing their primary tasks, and now... only after this short time, she could do many things that I had not even thought of as possibilities.

She was amazing before, but after she got her title as a <Spellmaster>, her magic transformed into something no ’mage’ of this world could ever fathom. Even after spending multiple lifetimes studying it up close.

{ "First of all, you did well." }

Her command was like the command of their sworn master to all the people of this group even though they were here because of their own interests.

They had seen what she was capable of, what they were capable of... and they knew even the absolute powers of this world were not going to be enough to stop their plans.

What they wished was inevitable, and since they had the chance, it was the best decision of their lives to join them instead of being the most foolish beings in this small world and rejecting their goodwill.

Only good would come out of following them, so... they followed them.

And just like right now, followed every command they issued with utmost sincerity-

{ "Second of all, the fourth key has been destroyed so there is no need to concern over it." }

"What?!"

"What do you mean Lady white?!"

"The key was destroyed?! How is that possible?! Did someone else-"

{ "No no. That’s not the case, everyone. The thing is... you see that box over there?" }

She pointed towards the piece of destroyed metal that could hardly be called a ’box’ anymore resting right beside the cold body of the archmage in a corner.

{ "That thing is called a (HDMI) or a Hyperspeed Deployment Manual Index... a shit name by a shit namer, but whatever.

That thing has an inbuilt function of reporting the results of the task it was supposed to execute and we believe after the curse was executed and none of you good people ’died’, the shocked dumb bastards from the alliance decided to do the dumbest thing possible and destroyed the fourth key themselves so that you cannot get our hands on it." }

"What?"

"They did that? On their own?"

"Are they really dumb enough to do something like that, Lady White?"

What the hell was she saying right now?

Did they destroy the key themselves?

Then how the hell were we supposed to go to the place where all their treasures were stored?!

{ "Well, think about it from their standpoint folks.

You took down a damn absolute of this world, an archmage all by yourself. And not only that, you survived the last line of defense those bastards had prepared, a Primordial curse that not even this archmage here would not have been able to survive without the HDMI’s programmed protection.

You did something no one could possibly imagine. Even I would be afraid of you coming after the key and the ones who tried to kill you off in the worst possible way, no?" }

"Then... was everything we had done until now, for nothing?"

I couldn’t help but ask that question.

And many of the individuals present were the same.

{ "The plan of using the keys to steal their things? Yes. Looks like you won’t be able to do it like you were supposed to." }

-Dhmp.

A few of them fell to the ground with a defeated look covering their faces.

Including our captain...

"Fuck... those bastards..."

The mission failed.

Not some side mission, but the ultimate thing we were aiming for was now not possible anymore.

The keys were the only way to open that gate and only after passing that gate could we have been able to retrieve what we wanted.

There was a bigger reason behind all these thefts and the things we have done until now, but all of it would be for naught if we couldn’t loot the final storage.

"..."

They thought it was over, and that the reason she was here was to release them from their positions or something... but, knowing her, and this cheerful look she has, there is definitely something more to this than just the end we were seeing.

{ "Haha, don’t be too sad everyone. A mission failure is a normal thing. Something all of you will have to face every once in a while." }

Squatting down and helping everyone get back up starting from the captain, our Ace, she looked at us with joyful eyes and perhaps a smile hidden behind her own mask.

{ "So what if those bastards destroyed the key? That doesn’t change what you have to do now, does it?" }

I can tell she was up to something new just from that held-back excitement of hers.

I can feel it through our connection... she was already expecting this kind of outcome from the start.

"What does that mean...? Is there any way to fix the keys, Lady White?"

{ "Nope. You should forget about keys completely now, dear Ace." }

"What?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Her answer was instantaneous. She didn’t even hesitate to say that crazy thing.

"Then... how..."

All of us had the same thoughts right now... if the keys were not an option, if there was no way for us to get into that storage area with the only available method, how were we going loot that place?

{ "Yup. Some of you are thinking the right thing... if there is no easy way in, we just have to use the front doors." }

And right after hearing this crazier thing coming from her, right after sensing that excitement, she had through our connection, an excitement so deep it was almost like she had been waiting for this exact moment for ages... I knew something was going to happen to us.

Something much more profound than anything we have been through in the last couple of months...

{ "So, cuties. Listen up properly~. I have new tasks for all of you~." }

Perhaps this was the thing she... they had been aiming for from the start.

The Storyline, as they called it. This must be related to that.

’And if it’s really related to their most important project, I can only imagine what kind of craziness we, as well as this world, are about to witness from now on...’
