Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start-Chapter 241: Breakthrough
An hour after Rion and Dora left the bakery.
Wilson stood staring at the ten gold coins placed on the table, and Grandma sat in the chair beside him as she cried her heart out to him.
Suddenly, Wilson clenched his fists and turned towards the exit, and walked to the door.
"Where are you going?" She questioned while rubbing the tears off her eyes.
He stopped in his tracks, his hand on the door handle. He turned his head to her and said with an extremely determined look on his face, "I lost the bet, so just like he kept his promise... I keep my words."
Feeling his sincerity, Grandma nodded weakly and mumbled, "He didn’t have to pay so much..."
The reason why Rion was able to give away ten gold coins so easily was that he had been gifted over five hundred gold coins by Count Barely, who had a strict monopoly over the corpses of ether beasts that frequently attacked Barleyhen.
After enjoying the festival for a few more hours, Rion and others returned to their rooms in Barligrahm Inn and spent their remaining day there.
Two days later—
Rion stood before a door and knocked on it.
A familiar voice answered from the inside, "You can come in."
His lips lifted into his usual casual smile, and he pushed open the door.
Calvus and Salis, who were sitting on a wide sofa, and Jamie, who was standing behind Calvus, entered his vision.
He placed a hand on his heart and said, "It’s great to see you, young master Calvus, Sir Salis, and Jamie."
All of them gave him a faint smile. Calvus pointed at the sofa before him and said, "Lord Rion, please have a seat."
’You don’t have to tell me twice.’ He nodded, took his seat, and asked while shifting his gaze between Calvus and Salis, "So? Why did you call me?"
Jamie lowered himself and whispered in Calvus’s ear, "You have to do it, young master."
Hearing him, Calvus nodded, took a deep breath, and said, "I want you to leave."
’What?’ Rion blinked a few times, tilted his head, and muttered with a baffled expression, "You want me to leave...?"
Calvus nodded. "Yes."
Even after hearing it from his mouth Rion couldn’t believe that Calvus was asking him to leave.
’What is going on?’ He questioned himself as he was unable to understand Calvus’s move for the first time since they had met.
Calvus leaned forward, placed his elbows on his thighs, and said in a humorless tone, "I know you stayed for my father’s promise..."
Rion didn’t say anything and just listened to whatever thought his mind had cooked up.
"Yesterday, Sir Salis had gone to the academy and found out that anyone who wishes to take part in the trials can stay within the academy dorms, and seeing Lady Dora’s declining health — I think it would be better for us to stop trying to forcefully enjoy the festivities or the culture we aren’t really part of..."
A genuine look of sincerity appeared on his face, and he added, "I am not saying this because I do not need you — your presence is very appreciated, but I do not want to be a burden that forces you to divide your priorities."
Hearing his reasoning, Rion blinked once. Twice. Thrice and finally muttered, "I am glad for your thoughtfulness, but I am not doing all of this just for you... I have known Dora since we were children running around the mountains to find curious things — she has never been the one to despair for long."
A wry smile appeared on his face, and he continued, "She won’t like it if I cancel everything and go out of my way to get her cured."
"I see," Calvus nodded. "She may be sad, but... does that matter more than her being cheerful and healthy?"
Rion pressed his lips into a thin line and stared at Calvus with a sombre expression.
"My lord... She also knows your childhood —she would understand. Do not do things the way you do not want to, the only times you have enjoyed anything is when Lady Dora was with you... Please, consider my request," Calvus stated as he stood up from his seat and walked out of the room.
Jamie and Salis gave him a final glance before they also followed behind their young master.
Once all of them left, Rion leaned back in his seat and mumbled under his breath, "Heh. Am I that easy to read?"
He rubbed his hands on his face, heaved a deep sigh, and mumbled with a determined glint in her eyes, "Yeah, Calvus is right, let’s stop acting like everything’s fine..."
He stood up from his seat and allowed his will to expand as much as possible.
Till now, he had only expanded his Zone to the size of the tribe’s settlement because doing it more than that caused him an intense headache, but over time, it had become a habit, and he had stopped trying to go beyond the limits placed on him.
His Zone began to cover half of the capital, and just a moment later, something he’d believed impossible happened.
A chime rang in his head, and a familiar blue screen flickered before his eyes.
[Ding! Sign in at <The Royal Academy>?]
[Yes / No]
His Zone widened even further and covered three-quarters of the capital.
[Ding! Sign in at <The Royal Archives>?]
[Yes / No]
It continued to spread and covered the whole of the capital.
[Ding! Sign in at <The Hall of Honour>?]
[Yes / No]
And then it went beyond the capital.
[Ding! Sign in at <The Bulorka Royal Palace>?]
[Yes / No]
A slight headache hit Rion, and he simply ignored it.
"Hah..." a baffled whisper escaped his lips, and he muttered with a wide grin, "Yes."
